I usually don't give bad reviews, but this golf course is not worth the money, don't waste it. I drove 3 hours. I even asked for the conditions of the courses and they said they were in great shape. Had to be one of the worst golf courses ever played out of my life after I drove 3 hours. For a holiday weekend, greens were not mowed. Grass wasn't mowed around the greens. The fairways weren't mowed. The tee boxes weren't mowed pathetic.

1/27/2024 Had a great day, I am 64 and took our 16 year old son. We skied from 9am to 8:15pm. Lift lines weren't bad waited just a few minutes at the most to get on a chair.
Conditions were a little warm so the snow was like mashed potatoes but it is the Midwest and you suck it up buttercup. Lunch in the avalanche bar was a 16inch pizza for $23 not outrageous for typical ski lodge prices and even though it was Saturday the pizza came in like 10 minutes, topped it off with a Foggy Geezer IPA @ $9 and a Root Beer for my bro. Got 2 meals out of the pizza. skied well past dark and the only bad part was at the end of the night I saw that my one ski had critical structural de-lamination of my Kastle Special Edition Proto Ski of which there were only 500 pairs made, that was abuzz kill for sure. But, did I have a good day.... sure did.
I read about a lot of complaints but it just sounded like people who have skewed expectations of what Midwest skiing is, complain about dirty parking lots go to Colorado or Lake Tahoe and after you spend Thousands on Hotel and lift tickets you wont complain about rundown lodge, dirty parking lots long wait times or masses of people. You want perfect than go mortgage your house if you have one and spend the big bucks like a baller.

Absolutely never go to this place. Raccoons live in the kitchen where they cook YOUR food. The walls are filled with mold and bacteria that the owner and GM know about. Instead of tearing down the buildings that make people sick they change out the 1970’s tv and carpet that’s covered in puke booze and whatever else. There’s something to say about a family run resort. Let’s put it this way. When Covid hit, all resorts around the area capped lift tickets in the effort to keep people safe while giving them a place to be outdoors. Joe, the GM. Alex the owners son/marketing director. We never actually knew what he did. Brian the owner took full advantage of them being the only resort that would pack people in. All of them told me to my face that they didn’t care about Covid. Every person is a dollar sign. How anyone could read this and give them your money I’ll never know. This place should be shut down. Joe Vittengl should have multiple lawsuits which will come.

The resort is at the base of a medium-sized mountain that’s three hours from Chicagoland. If you have your own gear, you can work until noon, head out by one, start skiing or boarding for a few hours and get home by 10 for only $40 with a night ski lift ticket if you book online. I got nine runs on over two hours on a Sunday evening. Unlike other ski resorts within a day’s drive, I felt the resort had a variety of trails of varying difficulty to keep me engaged.
I have Verizon cell service and I lost all service during my time at the resort. In some ways, that might be a good thing.
I think it’s the best value for your money in the Chicagoland area.

The good: as far as not-extreme-north (i.e. Lutsen and Bohemia) midwest skiing goes, the slopes cannot be beat. Long cruisers, good terrain parks and some real steeps, even if short. I measured the vertical and it is a legitimate 515ft. If you are used to out west, that's nothing but for southern WI that is a BIG hill. And it is spread out over a large area as well. Now the bad: it has a direct southern exposure, which means that come February when it warms up on sunny days the snow turns to mashed potatoes fast. I hope they combat this by running the snow guns whenever it is below freezing but I am not sure they do. And as you can tell from the reviews of people who stayed there, this place could be so much more than it is. It badly needs some investment in updates in the hotels and lodges. The full price tickets are really expensive. And they could do even more with the terrain, especially to the eastern end of the area. So in the end I would absolutely recommend skiing here, especially when snow conditions are good. Probably wouldn't recommend staying here, so consider this a ski review, not a hotel/resort review.

Do not stay at this dirty, gross hotel. The slopes are mediocre but the hotel is completely dirty and gross.

I do not recommend- different kinds of bugs crawling in the bed at night and dead bugs along the window sill and under AC. Overall dirty and unkept. Indoor pool wasn’t working. Find another place to stay, this isn’t it.

Didn't stay at the resort but did play golf. Very challenging course. In places was a trip in the woods and wonderful nature. Course is up and down and very challenging. Had a great time playing and looking at nature.

I wouldn't take my wife and kids to stay here but it worked out fine for a guys golf trip. The resort rooms haven't been updated in 30 years. The beds, while small, were comfortable enough for one night of sleep. But all the furniture is dated, they have no outlets to plug things in except by the sink, the carpet was vacumned, the bathroom floor had hairs from a prior guest, the tv was ancient and had horrible picture quality and the window didn't lock. (I had a 1st floor room so that was a little concerning). Luckily the mini fridge worked and there was good water pressure on the shower.
Indoor pool area was fine except there were no chairs or tables to put your stuff so you had to leave it on the dirty cement floor.
As for the golf courses, they are in decent shape. There are some tee boxes that need a lot of work, a few greens that were beat up and the bunkers were atrocious. Their courses are really beautiful and this could be a destination resort if they put some money into it. One thing that really irked me is that the starter shack didn't mention that there is no halfway house to get food and drinks halfway through either course so if you didn't somehow know to stock up at the beginning, you are out of look for refreshment unless they have a beverage cart roaming. (which they didn't one of the days when it was in the mid-80s.) They still don't have the water coolers out on the tee boxes so that was a real bummer on a hot day.

Currently they are running specials with low prices I would call to inquire as i may not know all the deals. I do know hotel rooms are currently priced low and there is still a ton of great snow n the hill probably the best of the season
