There seems to be general agreement that the three best-sounding concert halls in the world are Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Vienna's Musikverein and Boston's Symphony Hall. I attended the first of several concerts in the Concertgebouw back in 1961 and in the Musikverein in 1978.In spite of visiting Boston several times in the 1990s and 2000s, I never made it to Symphony Hall. We went to an open rehearsal this morning and, yes, the acoustics are magnificent. The hall is also very attractive in a late 19th-century way.

The music was familiar, the orchestra members did a top quality job of bringing life old favorite music and
the choral group was fantastic. The audience was in high spirits. Everyone was all dressed for the holidays and the numerous children were excited and happy to be there. There are reception rooms for a preconcert meet and greet and generally the experience was tradition and color and music from which to make memories.

even if you have attended orchestral music concerts in the past elsewhere, if you are in Boston and have the opportunity, do attend a performance at Symphony Hall. This has some of the best acoustics in the world, and it remains a comfortable and special place to hear music.

I brought my Dad to see the Pops Christmas concert. It was wonderful!
The seating in the orchestra section should have been a little more spread out.
There were no aisles between the tables and getting to the seats was difficult.

I booked tickets online around thanksgiving and I was pleased regarding ticket prices and availability for the night we selected. We hadn’t been in years and were not disappointed. Symphony Hall was decked out in Holiday decorations and staff were very friendly and helpful. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Keith Lockhart was amazing, as well as the whole Boston Pops orchestra and the Tanglewood Chorus. We were totally entertained for a good 2 hours. Definitely put us in the Christmas spirit! We hope to make it an annual event.

I went to hear Mahler and Greig and neither disappointed. The hall is beautiful and the acoustics seem to be very good. i sat in two different seats, one on the balcony and one in the stalls (for the introductory talk) and the sightlines were excellent for both.

The tour admission is fair: $12 per person for a 60-90 minute tour (no complaints). The tours can be lead daily providing (and there is always that "provisio" or caveat) that you have contacted them no less than 3 weeks prior to make these tour arrangements. A 10-person minimum is needed to conduct a tour. Sigh.
Maybe you are lucky and maybe you are not. Maybe you will need to be satisfied with the exterior beauty suggestive of what could-have-been (but sadly, is not). But we can always dream and remember and plan for the future!
The Symphony Hall was built in 1900 and, as of 1999, has been named as a United States Historic Landmark. It is one of the three top concert halls in the entire world. Seating accommodates 2,625 attendees (give or take).
It sits adjacent to the monumental (and seemingly never ending) Christian Science Plaza construction project.

Beautiful and acoustically wonderful- we saw the Boston Pops Summer of 69 concert with Arlo Guthrie. Just awesome!

A tastefully simple and beautiful hall with great acoustics also happens to be the home of a world-class orchestra. I’ve been here several times over the last few years, and have never been disappointed. Bostonians are so fortunate to have such a treasure in their midst.

Symphony Hall Gift Cards purchased from BSO are good for performances of the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops and Tanglewood.
