Used the trolley two times in two days using the pronto app to pay. I strongly reccommend anyone not to use this service beacuse they over charge compared to listed prices and they do not meet you to refund the money they have stolen from you. I was charged 6.50$ for the trolley that was supposed to cost 2.50$ and also they have kept 1$ on the metro card that I’m not able to release again.

Good way to get around San Diego

I went to San Diego on a budget so I decided to try the trolley, it was a good decision all in all since it gets to many places, some very far. I'm a foreigner so I didn't know what ot expect, but never had an issue. The trolley itself was for the most part clean, the people riding it just minded their own business, never felt unsafe.
The reason I don't give 5 stars is because it was a bit difficult to get the hang of it. Nobody explains you much, how the cards work, how the tickets work, the lines, etc. Basically you buy a card with a number of trips and you recharge it after they run out. Before you get into the trolley you are supposed to swipe your card in one of the machines at the station and then hop in. Supposedly there are people checking within the trolley if you actually paid but I never saw someone, of course if they catch you riding without a ticket there is a fine.
You can also not use a card and the buying machine emits a paper ticket, but of course this is for one way trips, while the card has other options. Also note that there are discounts for certain people.

Anyway if you are on a budget and don't rent a car the trolley is a good option to get around san Diego, just know that you will walk a lot because while the stations are conveniently located you still have to walk a good chunk to get to some places.

Convenient from the Gaslamp District to the Zoo, boat cruise & Little Italy for dinner. Highly recommend to visitors from all over the world. Very easy to read train timetables and navigate around city.

Bug spray on route 20

Yesterday I transfered fro the235 to the 20 at Complex Drive. I got to the bus and the driver was not there so I decided to hurry in to MC Donald's for a Coke. As I read he'd the restaurant the driver exited and greeted me. I got my Coke and returned to find the bus still waiting. I entered, and sat down then it hit me...bug spray. I said to the driver why does this bus reqularly spell like bug spray and he just laughed.. I could taste bug spray and my. Lothes smelled badly. No cool at all.

Reminiscent of European tram systems

The San Diego trolley is reminiscent of European tram systems, except not as fast Almost completely automated. Smooth ride with prepaid fares. Clean and comfortable and very affordable. Extensions just opened and now provide service from UCSD to the Mexican border.

Begin With This Trolley Ride

What a great introduction to this beautiful city. Take a trolley ride before you do anything else, and use the time to plan what you want to visit next. The drivers are friendly and personable, adding to the experience.

I cannot recommend the trolley enough as a way to enhance your San Diego experience.
