We just happened to be in front of the lol comedy club wondering what we were about to do that evening. Ended up buying ticket to the doorman. Tickets were not too expensive, but we had to take at least two drinks each, nearly all the drinks are 10 $ ... so we ended up have a decent bill afterall ...
But we had a blast, it had been a long time since I laughed as much.
Tip: If you don't want to be singled out by any comics, ask to be sitted in the far corner away from any spots. ;)

Best money spent in NYC. Went with a teenager so we were limited in our nighttime activities. The whole family had a great time! We are still laughing! We are going again this summer.

We chose to go to the comedy show based on the reviews. Upon our arrival, we were a little skeptical but it was so much better than what we expected. We had a great time and lots of laughs. Too bad we went on our last night in NYC or we would have went back for another show. The show would be good for all ages. I highly recommend attending!

After reading reviews here, I decided to try National Comedy Theater for an inexpensive evening out with our teenagers while visiting New York. The venue is small and intimate, with a little bar in the lobby where you can purchase wine, beer, water, or soda along with popcorn and candy. You can take your snacks and drinks into the theater with you.
The show starts out with a “referee” who introduces the rules and encourages audience participation. Two teams play various games where they have to improvise and think quickly on their feet. The teams compete for audience affection and winning points.
Overall, the show was fun and a great way to spend a fast 90 minutes. My two teenagers found it pretty funny and they are hard to please! We attended a 7:30 pm show on Saturday and the theater was about ½ full. There was a mix of families, adult couples, and a few slightly tipsy 20-somethings. However, the humor was clean and family-appropriate.

This show is the best! Our teenage kids loved it even though English is their second language. They understood most of the jokes and we almost split our sides because we laughed so hard. First we thought we would have to participate but luckily that did not happen. Some of the punchlines became running jokes in our family - the ultimate honor. Very family oriented and great value for money!

We went with our teens (ages 16 and 13) some out of town guests and their teens (16 and 13) and had a blast. Hilarious performances as the cast had to jump through hoops to incorporate the crazy suggestions being thrown at them by the audience. The competition structure of the show kept things lively and the entire evening flew by. The tickets were very reasonable and the theater is small enough that there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Refreshments were also priced very reasonably. Would recommend this highly!

Talented folks improvised on wacky suggestions from the audience. It was very funny -- and very clean and appropriate for all ages. What a great bargain and super entertainment. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I took my 19 year old son and 16 year old daughter and we had a great time. My 19 year son was 100% ready not to enjoy it because he was expecting to be surrounded by little kids and also believed that anything I recommend must be lame but he laughed a lot and was even called up on the stage to set some of the performers "in position", which he enjoyed a lot. He had a good time as did my 16 year old daughter who is generally more agreeable anyway.
We went to the late show on a Saturday and the place was about 75% full and was a mix of families with adolescents plus a few college age or perhaps high school seniors out on their own plus a number young adult couples out on dates. There may have been a couple of kids under 12 with their families there and they seemed to have a good time too, nothing was innapropriate or over their heads either.
My only disapointment is that the performers on the night we went were almost 100% white but as the cast changes from night to night our experience may not be typical. The audience was mainly white but did have people of color there, mainly hispanic but also African American.
And the price is EXCELLENT. Not many family shows are prices so reasonably in Manhattan. I recommend it highly to all

In this age when teens are so sophisticated, it can be hard to find a NYC family activity that is fun AND mature enough to engage them AND that they can get into! This was perfect - I went with two teen boys aged 15 and they laughed a lot. After the show, they volunteered tha they would do it again. Theater is easy to get to, price is phenomenal for NYC (very inexpensive if you get discount tickets), refreshments available. From what I could see, pretty much eveyone there was having fun. Highly recommend this and I'll be going back with visitors/friends.

I must admit that improv comedy really is not my thing but I enjoyed this show. It was 100% family appropriate but still fun for teens. Serviced minded, professional support staff. We really felt like they were happy to have us there. I was a bit concerned about walking to/from the location but it was fine. Performers were funny and worked their tails off. A great, inexpensive evening activity in a very expensive city.

Their website says they are on hiatus and will be in a new home in 2015....I hope that new home is still in NYC because it is so much fun.
