A must! Such a cool place with so much to see. Great selections on all things deli. They have a huge cheese selection! We got bagels, cheesecake and cream cheese that was fantastic. Wish we lived closer because this would be my go to place. Don't miss it!

The "cafe" on the corner = No.

This is for the Zabars "cafe" only!...The main part of Zabars is great. A NYC institution not to be missed. However...I stopped at the take-out section on the corner the other day and was shocked. It was dirty, messy and unorganized. And since when is the classic NYC egg+cheese sand. on a kaiser roll served with dry scrambled eggs andon a panini pressed roll and in a hard plastic container that is terrible for the environment!? For that I paid $8? Yuck. I ate 1/2 cuzz I was so hungry and threw the other 1/2 away. I guess it is another casualty of Covid but you'd think they'd rally better than this. It is sad, I won't be back. And BTW, most of the photos on this site are from pre-covid days :(

Wonderful NY upper west side deli/grocer.

This is a wonderful NY grocer come deli that stocks anything you might want for food.
The deli sandwiches are delicious and great value as one sandwich easily serves two people.
I am glad I don’t live close by this shop as I would put on several pounds working my way through the extensive stock.

There are no words! This should be on everyone’s bucket list. Besides the black and white cookies and everything bagels, the manicotti is scrumptious. This just to name a few. It’s impossible to walk out of here without something delicious in your hands!

Bagel with Nova at the corner store is perfection! worth the trip everytime

OY! love this store! affordable for cheeses, the nova is outstanding, i love the cream herring- my fave in the world. the smoked whitefish is outstanding, this is a NY staple! We had a fresh prepared bagel with the works (cream cheese, capers, tomato, nova, onion toasted) from the corner takeout- it was dreamy- total perfection. also upstairs is great kitchen wonderland of pots, pans, etc. dont miss the coffee/tea room- i love the very berry.- affordable for a bag. the onion knish was fabulous- need it heated with mustard= essential. what a Jewish food wonderland- i go every trip to NYC>

worth passing other delis to get here

Because of glowing reviews, we took a train and then walked IN THE HEAT to get to this place, passing a dozen or probably four dozen delis on the way. This place was definitely worth it. My breakfast sandwich was so, so good. The place was busy at 10:30 in the morning (but the line moved very quickly and the food came out very quickly), so I imagine there must be a line out the door for breakfast and lunch. I'd definitely wait at least 10 or 15 minutes for the sandwich I had. I'll be back next time I'm in NYC!

Seriously gone downhill

I've been coming to Zabar's since my high school days in the 1970's. My last few visits the food has been sub-par, but I keep trying to give them a chance. This last visit I spent $85 on Chicken a'la Orange and Lamb Shank with vegetable gravy for a special family dinner. No one enjoyed it, basically inedible. I also purchased Salmon/Whitefish spread and a Raspberry Cheese strudel. The same response from everyone. "This is disgusting." What has happened here? Does no one taste the food they are selling? The only thing that was just as good as always was the Nova lox, but I can get that al over the city for less. Sorry, but I will never return.
