I never got to do this tour. A few hours before, I was told it was cancelled because of a private event at one of the speakeasies. Later I was told that he was out of town. Which is it? Annoyed because I had to change plans last minute and went on a really bad tour.

Our host that knows other languages is currently out of town due to family reasons. Brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable tour with Ben. He gave us a really interesting history to prohibition era New York while sipping on cocktails in deadly bars. Ones which we wouldn't have found for ourselves. Hes an absolute gent. Would definitely recommend to others.

Such a great night with tour guide Ben whom was super friendly and so knowledgeable of the prohibition era, he brought my husband and I to such cool speak easys and recommended delicious cocktails, highly recommend it!!

We didn’t expect this tour to be as amazing as it was! Great experience and it was nice going as the tour compared to going to these places on our own. Lyonel was so great and super informative! We enjoyed learning about the history and each location we were visiting. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to see beautiful secret bars, have incredible drinks, and learn a little bit along the way!

Three bars that you would never find on your own. Great drinks and atmosphere. Fun history of prohibition. Tour guide was great. Time well spent if you like cocktails and a little history.

Great guide who was both fun and informative. Locations and drinks were amazing. History was fantastic and the walks between locations were not overly difficult.

Lackluster- flour tour guide confirmed via next and offered to start the tour 30 minutes early. We arrived at the earlier time but the rest of the group didn’t arrive early so we ended up waiting the 30 minutes anyway. There were 10 in our group. The tour guide didn’t really engage the whole group while walking except to give directions. We went to three speakeasy’s. The host didn’t make an effort for ice breakers so the couples mostly chatted with one another. The host spoke for a few minutes at each place but mostly it was just me and my friend chatting. We had reserved seats at 2 of the 3 places. Having to stand at the last place after so much walking wasn’t the best, we drank the drink we ordered and left. I feel like we could have done this tour ourselves with just a list of addresses.

Die Tour war okay. Ich würde sie nicht wieder buchen. Unser Tour guide Lionel hat nicht sehr viel über die Geschichte der Speakeasies erzählt, sondern sich 90% der Zeit mit einem der Gäste-Pärchen unterhalten. In den Bars hat er oft den Zeitpunkt verpasst, wenn die Gruppe bereit war zu gehen, und so sind wir oft wartend rum gesessen. Die Getränke in den Bars sind lecker, aber nichts außergewöhnliches. Ich denke die Preise sind höher als normal, da die Bars sich für exklusiv halten. Wir waren froh als es vorbei war.

I trusted Alex Tours to kick off my Fiancé 30th birthday celebration and we had a great experience!
Communication: I booked a party of 9 initially and one of my family members had to back out. I contacted Alex before the 24 hour mark and he immediately texted me confirming that he would reimburse me and shortly after my entire refund was posted.
Professional: Our tour guide, Lyonel, was at the given location early and safely guided us toward all three speakeasy bars. He was knowledgeable, respectful and personable.
Experience: Whether you are local or visiting the city this is a unique experience that I would recommend if you love a good cocktail with some storytelling and exploring some of NYC's hidden gems.

We will be booking one of these tours in mid-December. I’ve been researching which area but I CAN’T decide and there’s not really any reviews that tells me which is best; LOTS of great reviews. Can someone please let me know which area is best? We’re going for my birthday so I want it to be a great experience for my husband and I 💙

We did the lower east side which we really enjoyed, I can’t speak for the other sides of the city, however I think the lower east side offers a bit more history. Enjoy!

If you could only do one speakeasy tour, the most historic, the most 20's inspired which one would you do?
I want to do all four but only have time for one.
Also can you drink in each of the establishments?

I'm not certain which tour we ended up choosing but it was in the Bleeker St, Hudson St, 9th Ave, etc area. The support team at Alex's Tours is super helpful & responds pretty quickly if you have any questions.
As for drinking, they permit you to have beverages at 3 of the stops so as to keep everyone standing upright. My husband even found a new favorite drink thanks to Alex's suggestion.
My husband and I truely enjoyed the tour and intend to return for another one when our son, a history major, turns 21 in April.
You won't be disappointed with any of Alex's Tour routes!

just wondering how strict the policy is on running shoes? one of my group needs to wear them cause she has bad feet, she was going to wear her fall boots but now its going to be too hot out for that to be an option. thanks

Depends on the tour. The SoHo tour, for example, includes a few bars that have dress codes.

We are visiting this weekend and staying near Penn Station - not sure which tour to take ... i.e. west, east, lower etc .. any tips or ideas which would be best as far as Meet Up Point in relation to hotel?

We did the tour on the lower east side of the city so that we would be within walking distance to Little Italy for dinner. The tour you think you might like to take could be dependent upon the day of the week and the time. It seems that there are only a handful of tour guides (all of whom have a background in history). I can't say I was that thrilled with the tour in general. Also, in each 'location' where a speakeasy 'might have possibly been at such location' plan on spending with tip, $20.00 US dollars per drink). Also, you would be meeting the guide literally on the street. Our guide was holding a sign which must have been about 5 X 8 inches. It is almost like connecting with a complete stranger in the middle of a NYC block in the dark. I believe we went to 5 locations all pretty close to each other, but only one location was confirmed to have been a speakeasy. Hope this helps.
