If you are considering Rolling Thunder as a field trip destination, or a place to bring a large amount of people, please read this.
I came to Rolling Thunder as a counselor for a summer camp trip, and I think I speak for all my coworkers when I say we did not have a good time. Right off the bat there were at least two other summer camps that were visiting at the same time as us, so it was very crowded. The building itself is too small to comfortably fit a skating rink, an arcade, rides, a food court, and that many people, but especially the skating rink was very chaotic and over crowded. The music was way too loud as well, we were all literally screaming at each other and still could barley hear. A number of us found the DJ to be obnoxious as well, constantly calling out kids who were skating slowly. The part that was the most frustrating though, was that the lockers to safely keep your stuff in were way over priced (note; I didn't get a super clear look at the prices, but it was DEFINITELY not practical for a camp of more than 35 people to rent them. Many other things were overpriced too). So our campers had no choice but to leave their shoes around the benches while they skated, this became a problem when we learned that SEVEN KIDS were missing their shoes. We discovered that employees would come around with shopping carts and pick up mass amounts of shoes off the floor and take them away where no one could see them. We were not told that this would happen AT ALL. I feel like if your policy is that you pick up shoes that aren't in lockers and take them away to be claimed later, you have to tell people that, right?! So we were missing 7 pairs of kids shoes. After some investigating one of my coworkers was able to reclaim 6 pairs. This means that that last pair was likely taken by another kid unknowingly and we had to bring a camper back WITH NO SHOES ON HIS FEET. So that system was poorly designed. On top of that, some games in the arcade were just broken. Our campers would swipe their game cards, lose their money, and nothing would happen. And lastly, I tried ordering onion rings from the food court and I literally waited HALF AN HOUR to get my food. It's just crappy onion rings, it shouldn't have taken that long.
All in all my coworkers and I were very disturbed by our experience at Rolling Thunder. Maybe it would be more enjoyable with a smaller crowd, but I don't have high hopes to be honest.
I hope this was helpful, and if you are looking for a place to take a summer camp roller skating, I would encourage you to look elsewhere.

This rink is close to home and they always have specials and theme days! My 6 year old loves it, and we always come early afternoon; so it's always calm. We enjoy every visit!

Well...I must say...They sure can pack them in this place. It must be very popular!...or I guess I picked the busiest night to take the kids skating. Maybe I expect way too much at a roller skating rink and should really pick another day or time. Is there a real limit to the amount of children with those "skate canes" that can be on the floor. Rolling Thunder you really need to look into this. All I want to do is skate!
If you are interested in spending more time on the game machines then this is the place for you...otherwise...try further across the bridge...long ride but at least you will be able to actually skate without someone telling you which direction and you won't get knocked over from both directions by children using those skate canes

(Disclaimer: My teen and tween went here with friends for a party this afternoon, so this review is from their perspective.) It was very crowded, the music was blasting so much it gave me a headache, the DJ kept interrupting skating time about every third song to give a special laser light skate which required a laser light purchased from the gift shop to be allowed to skate. Patrons were rude and obnoxious; pushing little kids out of the way like they weren't there and several people didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom. The skating staff showed off and yelled at kids who were not breaking any rules and the other staff members were snappy and had slow service for tickets and maintenance. Palace Roller Skating is much nicer.

Where to start? The place is difficult to locate, but if you find Kmart, enter that shopping center and it's towards the back portion of its parking lot. We had a living social voucher, so we waited in line and when reaching the cashier, she shifted us to another cashier who was capable of handling the voucher. That cashier took 25 minutes (no kidding, we timed it) to handle a family in front of us and get to us... where she proceeded to give us already signed voucher cards and “ride tickets” that were used and taped back together. Then we got our skates... but the place is a zoo. They let entirely too many people onto the skating floor at any given time. There were kids with skate mates and trainers in the middle on the loop, which caused all sorts of issues. The DJ was awful and made people clear the floor for “laser light skating” which required you to purchase a laser light at the store in order to be on the floor. This went on for 25 minutes. When allowed back out for “general skating,” there was so much chaos that we decided to just leave. The place is disappointing to say the least. They really need to control the number of people on the skate floor and keep the kids in a separate area so they don’t make all the adults crash. The whole place needs an attitude adjustment among the staff too, especially the cashier.

I was looking for a roller skating ring(not ice skating) for my 8 yr old and her friend. A co-worker told me she would love this place. I have ound a place she loves. It is confusing to get to if you are not use to driving in the city. You must stay in the outside lane to get to it. It looks like you are going to the KMart but it is in the same plaza. There were so many people skating, young and old. The food was great. They had all kinds of games, even had two rides that you find at a carnival. After 8pm the security gets a little heavier, which is a comfort since the teen scene gets heavier for a Saturday night. Love the kids have somewhere safe to go. They have all kinds of events during the week and they even offer skate lessons from Mr. Flip, we will be going back for that. My daughter wants to skate backwards like the big kids. The staff is so friendly. I even got serenaded to the Frozen theme song by one of them. She loved it so much, we will be going back for the back to school event.
