My husband and I went to the museum and scheduled a guided tour. To start with, the organization was very strong in managing a very large group. Our tour started with our guide, Dillon Tyler. He was excellent and extremely knowledgeable about the history. About half way through, he had to hand off to another guide, which I feared would change the quality. Jeanne Durkin came in to take over and she was also excellent! Having grown up in Greensboro during the time of the Woolworth counter protests, she has so many anecdotes to share which made it even more relatable and awful. We will be back with our teen and pre-teen as every person should see the reality of what took place during that time. We’d love to see a continuation of the discussion to how racist continues to pervade our world today and while we’ve made strides, we have also had many backwards steps. Please go here. It’s critical for everyone!!

I absolutely loved my tour and my tour guide Angela Joyner. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Greensboro and the A&T four who revitalized the civil rights movement. I have not stopped talking about my experience since coming back from North Carolina and have a new desire to become more active in change within my own neighborhood and state of Florida. I recommend this tour to any and everyone and definitely recommend Angela as she helps everyone to not just see our history as a separate part experience but of one that impacts us all even today and to see how we all can make a change individually and as a collective.

This is a great history lesson, even for those of us who witnessed many of these events. Highly recommended for all over the age of 10. The film introducing the galleries is excellent. The displays are thoughtful. One can learn a lot by watching the film and viewing the galleries and displays. Viewing the lunch counter is very moving.

My wife and I visited this museum on March 16, 2023. It’s a must-see. It’s located in the former Woolworth’s store that was the site of lunch counter sit-ins by students in 1960. Seeing the actual lunch counter was simultaneously inspiring and disheartening. We took the two-hour guided tour and it was excellent. Our guides Jeanne and Darren were fabulous.

Visited the museum on 3/10/23. The museum is housed in the Woolworth building mas infamous for the 1960 Greensboro sit-in. There are 3 tour options to choose from. I believe the guided tour is $20, the self-paced tour is $15, and the virtual tour is $10. My wife and I did the self-paced tour. The tour starts at the basement level of the museum with viewing a pre-recorded video of various employees explaining the numerous exhibits in the museum. The video runs on a loop so you can join the video or leave the video at any time. After the video, you can follow the arrows to visit the various exhibits in the basement or the first floor. There are numerous exhibits and interactive displays. Plus it is neat to see the actual lunch counter and chairs from the 1960 sit-ins. Plus there is an exhibit on the second floor that tells the history of Andrew Young.
My dislikes are some of the exhibits do not accurately describe or explain. For instance, there was a preacher's robe but no clear indication of whether the robe belonged to Dr. Martin Luther King or another NC preacher pictured in the display. Some of the interactive touchscreen displays did not work. Lastly, the website should list the parking situation. There is either street parking or nearby parking garages but you have to figure it out on your own.
Overall, this is a good museum with a lot of history, I'm just not sure if it is worth visiting more than once.

Our family visited the Civil Rights Center & Museum in December 2022. Initially we were disappointed that only the Filmed Tours followed by a walk through of the Museum's galleries was available. To our delight, the Filmed Tours turned out to be such an extraordinarily well done tour of the museum. Giving viewers all the information and fun facts that gave us an thorough understanding of each exhibit. Standing ovation to all that played a part in the production of the Filmed Tour. So well done. Thankful we had that option on our visit. A Museum, you don't want to miss!

I would HIGHLY recommend my visit to the International Civil Rights Center & Museum to others. I had the pleasure of being guided on tour by Mr. Darryl who had so much knowledge, not only about the Woolworth Counter but all of the artifacts inside. His messaging gave such dignity to our history and it felt like I was in some of the moments. My favorite portion was feeling transported back in time when I was able to see the counter. It was a place my actual family frequented when they were students in Greensboro during the 60's . While some of the history moved me to tears, I left ultimately feeling empowered and armored with more education about Black History in this country. If you go I hope you also get the honor of a tour with Mr. Darryl and feel moved by the endurance and excellence of Black people in America and all around the world.

I visited this business with my 3 homeschooled children for education. We did the self-guided tour and found the museum to be very educational. The cashier for the day didn't seem very friendly but did his job I suppose. There's a theater where you watch a film. I thought it was phenomenal but it was lengthy for my children ages 5-11. Otherwise, the museum seems appropriate. I'd recommend attempting to build your homeschool lessons around it as the museum offers no such thing. I'd return here.

The history is great. There is an area with graphic photos that they would walk you through faster if it’s uncomfortable. But all the info is very educational and valuable.

Yes, I think so. It's not graphic. There are a few photos but the guide makes it fun and interesting although the circumstances are what they are. I think a 7th grader can handle it. They may have questions but they should be fine.
