Located near Kamshet, Tikona Fort is one of the easiest treks in Maharashtra. The route is very safe and wide. A great hike for beginners. Enjoy a breathtaking view of Pawna lake from the summit.

Trek to Tikona fort was an outstanding experience, so far this is the best and cleanest/least polluted trek I have come across in Maharashtra. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach the peak from where one can enjoy exhilarating and panoramic views of Pawna lake and the surrounding region. So guys, enjoy this trek and please please don't litter.
There aren't too many concession stands for food/water, so carry your own water.

It is a beautiful fort. It is a bit difficult to climb given your health and age. Surrounded by pawna lake.

It is 1.45 hrs from Pune. Climbing is moderate difficulty for family roughly 1.40 hrs. Fort does not have well preserved structure. Avoid in foggy weather as you can not see surrounding much. Best time to visit immediately after rainy season is over and before winter starts.
Avoid restaurants near parking. There is one small restaurant just after entering Tikona village named 'CAFE VILLAGE' it is reasonable and good quality food.

This review is of somebody who visited Tikona for the first time. I have done several treks to nearby Lohagad and I was not expecting too much from my trek to Tikona, but I was wrong.
The road to Tikona is fairly easy via Pavana Dam. From Pune, there are other routes such as via Paud or via Hingewadi, but be careful about the road conditions.
The trek to the top is approximately 1 hour at moderate speed. This trek is low to medium intensity and definitely tougher then Lohagad. You first reach the fort and then you go to the Balekilla, which is at higher elevation. The steps to Balekilla are tough and slippery during rains.
The best time to climb is during monsoon and winter only.
At the top you get a uninterrupted view of several kilometers of area. You can clearly see Pavana Dam and it’s lake. You can see Tung, Lohagad, Visapur forts easily. It is said that on clearer days, you can even see Sinhagad, Rajgad and Tirana.
There is a working lime mortar (Chuna) making machine on the fort. This consists of a stone wheel rotated by Ox to crush and mix together ingredients for lime mortar, which was a important construction material.
You will several caves for accommodation and storage. At the top there is a Shiva temple that is refreshing to visit.
On weekends, there are several families that trek this fort together. The trek can be done by kids of 10 years and above with adult supervision.
Bring drinking water bottles and food with you. There are not so many good restaurants nearby unlike Lohagad.

Tikona Fort
The Tall beauty.
Tikona Peth, Kamshet
They call it difficulty level medium hike. Makes me wonder how do they measure that? It was for sure easy for me, apart from some slippery steep stairs not much to worry about. But that’s for me, I am sure someone may find this tough.
The list of forts around Pune seems to be endless and I have only covered a handful.. but I do vote #Tikonafort as one of the cleanest. It also stands out for the beautiful triangular shape it has. Mandatory private parking of 50 Rs. with lot of eateries at basement. They keep the place clean so I am happy to give my 50 bucks. Post monsoon the place was stunning! The views are awesome and we were lucky to have clouds and showers for a part of our hike. Security keeps a count on people coming in and out and I spotted a first aid box as well. I would say this is good one for family with kids to visit. Hike up around 3500 feet was hardly 30 -40 minutes with breaks.
Request to be quiet, respectful to others and nature and enjoy the views, people come to nature for peace, not to hear you scream, yell and talk loudly. Sad to see gym trip being so loud #talwalkargym. We decided to sit on the top until they all disappear so we could enjoy some peace. Everyone else did the same as well :)!
If driving from #Pune I would say skip old #Mumbai Pune highway after paying toll, take a left and follow GPS via small villages and Eventually stunning Pavana Lake. If you leave Pune at 7:30 AM you will be done hiking on leisure by 2:00 PM while returning take a stop at #Pavanalake ( no need to go to the tourist patch) just hike anywhere close to lake and sit and enjoy the stunning visuals! Let’s enjoy all this before construction takes over all the view!
Remember, Carry your own metal bottles, say no to plastic bottles, say no to cancer and say no to plastic pollution!

I went to Tikona fort for trekking with my friends when the rains in Pune were at the peak .. 3-aug-2019. In fact Pune had started seeing floods after so many years in this period. We were able to go from old Mumbai-Pune highway to Pawna dam and then went towards Tikona. It was awesome sight everywhere with continuous rains and greenery. Farms were filled with water and green plans and grass. We were able to cross the bridge just after Pawna dam, but it was closed due to water discharge while coming back. We had to come back to Pune via Hadshi-Paud-Hinjawadi road. But it was absolutely fun. Roads have some problems at some places, but good trip in general.
The fort itself is good medium trek. It has mix of steps and stones. It took us about 55 mins to be at the top from bottom. The most tough part of the fort is about 75 degree vertical climb with steps that are not even 1 feet wide. That was a little adventurous part, but then the view at the top is simply awesome. It was very cloudy and foggy at the top, so we couldn't see other forts that are usually visible from the top. Coming down is not a problem except the same challenging steps and one or two spots. Be careful when you are there. The temples at the top are also well maintained and are peaceful.
Since we were the mad ones to go at such a perceived bad weather and rain, there was no rush at all in the morning and we were only the 2nd group at the top at about 9 am.
Overall, awesome place for a day visit with your friends and family.

I loved this place, the view which you get when you finally reach the top. The trek is easy, don't forget to get yourself good pair of shoes. On the way you can see the tung fort and the Pawna lake.
Best time to visit is in the monsoon season.

There are lot of snack options en route the fort. Bhajias and Sweet corn were available in abundance. We had wonderful lunch at Tikona Picnic which is close by. There would be few more options available in nearby viallges.

Is it easy for a beginner ?
I did mahuli trek half way only then stopped !
Will i be able to complete this ?
Is it a easy one or how difficult it is ?

Let us first look at the statistics. Tikona trek reaches the height at 3600 feet and i can see Mahuli trek reaching the height at 2815 feet (courtesy Google). Which is approx 28% more.
But please do not worry. Being a heart patient myself and at the age of 49 years and 5 months if i could do it, I believe You can as well. I was a beginner too.
There are only two steep climbs of approximately 50 meters each which are steps made of irregular sized stones. One can take adequate rest of 10/15 minutes after each of them and carry on. Normal time taken by healthy people is 3.00 hours to and back from the fort. We had a group of ten and took our own sweet time to cover this in 4.00 hours. Coupe of suggestions though, please go with a group who can motivate You. Have a good breakfast and carry adequate water. Be ready to be blown away by the breathtaking views all along and from the top of the fort. All the Very Best!!!
What kind of transport options are available from Kamshet station to Tikona Peth?

There are lot shared six seat autos and private jeeps available from Kamshet.
Can anyone give me a contact number of any villager at Tikona for food and breakfast.
