Sothavilai Beach is yet to get polluted. Its very clean and not crowded. If you avoid the sunny hours its indeed an ideal place to relax.

Awesome beach - extends to the Sanguthurai beach!
I've posted a similar review for the Sanguthurai beach; which is an extension of this beach after about 2 kms.
But visiting with family on a week day before noon, found it to be scarily lonely! Except for our auto driver & a couple of fishermen, the long beach was empty. With no police/security visible nearby, iffy phone signal, far away from the nearest main road, and our auto driver cautioning us about "frequent incidents that happen in the place", couldn't enjoy the beach.
Better to visit the beach in bigger groups (not at all recommended for solo or single family visitors, unless you are a risk-taker!).

Ten kilometers away from Kanyakumari we went to swim in an indian ocean(Sothavilai Beach).
There were only a few people on that beach.I was in the water at the waist level. My younger brother was also in water at waist level.Thirteen year old my nephew was in water at knee level.
Suddenly a strong wave came and my nephew started sinking. My brother rushed to save him. Then the wave intensified.I also rushed to save him.
I have experience of swimming and floating in sea waves. The incident was taking place at a depth of eight to ten feet and the water was not getting low.
My brother knows how to swim a little.I was trying to throw away my nephew in shore direction. But the position of the three of us was not moving from there.
Then all I did was lifting the nephew's head upwards so that he could breathe.Suddenly my brother said, I am also drowning.I got panic badly. I held his hand but I thought I will be able to save only one of my nephew and brother.
I left my brother's hand. What would have been worse.Just after that my brother legs fell on the big stone and he became stable. Then he pulled both of us forward. The other side water of the stone was up to the waist and we came out of danger.Outside there was a board in Tamil, which says that this beach is very very dangerous.I could not understand this warning because we didnt know tamil.

The road out and in are not accurate as per the Google map. So be careful as one road is partially blocked with fallen tree and sand.
One set of steps are damaged and the elephant and other sculptures also are damaged.
Beach is tranquil and not crowded so for a group it is safe and peaceful to enjoy. Not for ladies alone or small groups as there are some hooligans occasionally wandering about!
Even the Sabarimala season did not get the place crowded. Safe for children as the waves are not too strong! Worth a peaceful early noon visit as I heard from locals that evenings gets a bit more crowd!

The Sothavilai beach is about 20 - 25 mins drive from Kanyakumari. The beach is pretty isolated and hence we found very less tourists here. Nice place to go and spend some time on the sea shore. Not recommended for swimming as the gradient seemed to be steep.

As the name indicates, there is a big sangu(SHELL) located near the shore. The beach looks clean and less crowded with less shops.
Sanguthurai Beach is one of the calmest yet cleanest beaches that you should go to, during your visit to Kanyakumari. Sanguthurai Beach is located in the southernmost part of India, and you can feel the fierce power of the Indian Ocean there.
However, Sanguthurai Beach is a pretty tranquil place with white sand beaches that sets a perfect background to the coastlineYou can also see Vivekananda Rock Memorial from here in the coastline of Sanguthurai Beach. If vigilant enough, you can also spot a white pillar protruding from the sea at Sanguthurai Beach. In addition to all these attractions, its lukewarm water is perfect for swimming.

This beach is visited more by the local people of Nagercoil town than by tourists. It is about 10 KMs from Nagercoil town or Railway station; Buses are available from the bus stand; From Railway station, one has to go to the bus stand and then get a bus or hire a taxi or auto; Call taxis are available.
This is a sandy beach, but not flat; the sea is not shallow; it is somewhat steep; not a quiet sea; people report undercurrents at times; relatively a long sandy beach and therefore it is good for beach games and a long stroll.
It is less crowded normally; Weekend attracts more crowd; No shops around, therefore take eatables and lot of water; don't stay beyond sunset, as it is not safe; parking along the road side only; be extremely careful with children in the waters since it is a very erratic sea; Often big tides come without notice; do not go deep into the waters; one can take bath but it is not a safe place for bathing.
Casual wears suitable for beach is advisable; Avoid strangers.

Less crowded since it’s around 6-10km away from Vivekananda memorial. 500₹ is auto charge for pick up and drop from Vivekananda memorial to chottavila(also know as)beach including 1.30hr waiting.
When we go there at that time raining so no crowd at all and since it was raining around 10-15 feet tides were coming. Because huge tides we had great experience. No words to explain.
Please carry your water, you may not get it.

whole family took bath at hotel and set off for darshan at Bhagavathy Amman Temple, which is walkable from our hotel, we had a very good darshan in the special queue (though temple was empty the folks pushed us to that entrance), Goddess nosepin is so shiny (reflecting from the diya's lights) it will blind you. Men will be asked to remove shirt/banyan in inner portion of temple.
its offbeat, so except locals, others dont come here, not even hawkers

Chothavilai beach is 12 Kms from Hotel Tamilnadu and ideal time to go in the evening. You can take the route via Kovalam beach where you can visit Sunset View Point and Cape Comorin Pin Point. Hidden twin beach is another attractive place near by.
