Great organisation with hotel pick-up and transfer to the park, ticket collection was very smooth and the experience at the park itself was beyond expectations! Lovely staff, well treated elephants - highly recommend!

Initially we really enjoyed our experience swimming and washing the elephants. It wasn’t until we walked around the park that we saw elephants chained up with very little space and unable to interact with each other. They were only allowed to be unchained if ‘performing’ for tourists. They would spend all day either being washed repeatedly by tourists or carrying tourists on a safari. We saw one elephant chained up and he appeared very distressed when we alerted one of the keepers to this he said it was his ‘personality’
The park explains that the reason they are chained up is to keep them separate so the larger elephants cannot steal the food. This made me feel very uneasy. They also state that it is beneficial for the elephants to carry heavy loads and to do lots of walking throughout the day.
Having done some research when I got home this can definitely not be defined as a ‘sanctuary’ as we were led to believe. Anywhere that lets you interact closely with elephants or where they perform acts is NOT a sanctuary. We saw no mistreatment of the elephants and the keepers do seem to have a good relationship with them. But I can’t help feeling very guilty for visiting here knowing how poor a quality of life they have.
Photos attached show the short chain applied to the elephants leg.

Without a doubt the best day of the holiday.
I was dubious as seeing all of the negative comments regarding animal welfare & the use of ‘hooks’.
I was fully prepared to see the mahouts use force to get the elephants to perform on cue but I saw none of it. You can really see the bond between elephant and Mahout!
The only way they get the elephants to ‘perform’ (trunk up/keep still etc) was for the reward of food. You could tell T he elephants loved it!
With regards to the ‘hook’, the mahouts carry it for absolute emergency situations. After all the animals can kill humans in an instant. I did not see one being used at all (and I was looking out for it).
We rode an elephant and the mahout has been with the elephant for 28 years and came to Bali from Sumatra with it. You could see the bond they have. I did notice the seat was different from the other countries, you could tell it was much more lightweight than my previous encounters in other parts of the world.
The bathe was the best experience- totally worth it!

Do not go here!!!! I booked to stay here and left the same day in tears (I didn't care that I lost my money and wouldn't get a refund). The elephants are chained up, they cant roam around. they have no food or water, used metal hooks to make the elephants do what they wanted and were chained up. The owner is clearly a money loving distasteful human who was using paid celebrities to state how "wonderful" it was.
The elephants are continually used for elephant rides and washes all day, like a circuit and its awful.

This is terrible because they use a hook! They are not friendly at all. If you love animals and if you care about their well-being then don’t go.

People need to be aware that this is not a true sanctuary! The elephants are chained at all time’s when they are not performing for the visitors , this you can see for yourself . They are forced to be bathed , forced to be ridden and forced to go into the elephant bath . Whilst there we came across an elephant clearly not wanting to be in the single bath , trying to get out and forced to stay , I had to actually tell the ‘keeper ‘ to let the elephant out . More land at this park is dedicated to the lodges , gift shop and restaurant etc than is provided for the elephants . Total commercial enterprise!!!! No feed on for these beautiful creatures , the ‘free roam area ‘ is a joke ..... I felt guilty that my visit was contributing to these elephants misery that you could clear see . BOYCOTT

I'm writing this review to let people know that the Mason Elephant Park is beautiful. I have gone about 3 times over the last 4 years and plan to visit again. The elephants are treated VERY well. Im a big animal lover and would be the very first person to say this is a bad place, but it's not. The elephants have been rescued from absolutely horrible conditions and are treated with the love and respect they deserve. We purchased the package to wash and swim with the elephants and it was amazing! Putting on a bathing suit and sitting on top of an elephant with nothing but the elephant's mahoot behind me was one of the best experiences I've ever had. The elephants love the water and we went into a "lake". All of the sudden the elephant lowers and I was waist deep in the water with Boris (my elephant)! It was unexpected and remarkable. That is what they call "swimming " with the elephants. It was in no way harmful to the majestic animal.
When I went last May one of the females named Ava was pregnant. I know because we had the pleasure of bathing her. She loved it and so did we. We bathed her with a hose and brush. When I went last month she had had her baby (named Krishna). He is adorable and she takes good care of him. The elephants are happy and healthy at Mason Elephant Park. Why else would the elephant Ava become pregnant and have a beautiful healthy baby? Think about it.
5 stars all the way.

Hi I have just booked the Jumbo wash and Elephant safari tour. I thought both pick up and drop off would be included but my confirmation says no drop off. Is there a way to get drop off included?

Hey Emma,
If you book our tours with us they would come with transport and meals included. Did you make the booking via the "General Admission" page on our site? If so then you might've gone with our options there that don't have transport and meals included.
Please let me know your booking confirmation details and I can help you out with issue if you need to still.

Hi, Travelling to Bali to March for the first time.
I am not wanting to ride the elephants but just wanting to wash/feed them. Would this be the Jumbo Wash experience? and How much would it cost?

Hi. Please don't go to the one at Tegallalang. Although we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there last year and the staff were very friendly, my friend has just come back from Bali and said that British tourists are banned from the park due to animal rights activists. The park say they don't treat these beautiful beasts cruelly but I have just scrutinised closely, my photos from last year, and noticed one of the riders / trainers actually holding a small claw hammer in his hand while sat by the elephants head. I am really disgusted with myself now, realising that I have contributed to the funding of this park. If I had known at the time of my visit, I would have complained about it in an instant.

Do you need to pre book your visit or is it ok to just turn up on the day? Ty

Thanks for the question, Deb!
You can most certainly turn up at our park any day of the week - outside of our Safari Under the Stars in the evening, our daily opening hours for walk in guests is between 8:00am - 6:00pm.

All prices for general admission and park activities can be found on the "Park Activities" section on our website.
Our admission price into the park for an infant is 120,000 IDR.
I hope this helps :)

Hi, How long is the drive from Samir? Did you go just for the night or stay there? We are hoping to do this in May next year. Thanks

There is accommodation there but if you are just going to the safari park, a day trip is plenty long enough. Well worth the trip, beautiful scenery on your way and you can stop off at Ubud markets on your way back.
Enjoy your trip in May :-)

Hi Kamilka, thanks for your question!
Our park is open everyday between 8:00am - 6:00pm, just to be safe, if you'd like a ride I recommend coming by anytime between 9:00am - 5:00pm.

Hi,
Is there a minimum age for children to do an elephant ride? How many people can do a ride on the one elephant? Is it possible for one adult and 2 children to do an elephant ride? Thanks
Mason Adventures

Thanks for your query, Mumwithbub.
There's no minimum age requirement for our elephant rides (infants are absolutely fine). Depending on the size of certain individuals, we usually have max just 1 or 2 adults on each elephant. Having 1 adult with two smaller children would be fine as well :)

Hello😊! I would like to visit your wonderful park together with my 8 years old daughter to ride on your elephants. It is necessary to book it before or not? And how much do we have to pay? Kind regards from germany😊

Hi Tour,
Thanks for your question.
You don't necessarily have to book before visiting us, and how much you would pay depends on if you'd like to have some of our extra inclusions or not.
For specific information, please check out our website at masonadventures . com
I hope this helps, and looking forward to seeing you soon!

Hi, how much time will we need at the park to bathe and feed the elephants?
Mason Adventures
Ubud, Bali2 ผลงาน
Hi Amiah,
Thanks for your question.
Most guests on our Elephant Bathe & Breakfast tour spend in total about 2 to 3 hours at our park.
On a side note, we do constantly fish out the little bombs and we completely empty and refill the entire lake every 3 months. Also, we do have showers with full amenities on site :)
Best regards,
