Always a great time at the Audubon Zoo. Last year we went and some things were closed, they are now open. Always something a new or upgraded exhibit. All of the animals were out and about it was a great day

A lovely setting & and a well-kept zoo. We've seen zoos where the animals have more room in their enclosures compared to this one, which surprised us given the vast open space public areas in this zoo.
The staff that we saw were friendly and knowledgeable, especially those driving the trains, but more animal talks should be available. On the day we visited there were very few talks. Those that were advertised were for the days before/following, and around the same times, so not the best for interested visitors.
Good public food options and large picnic areas.

We have been to zoos all over Europe and America, this was in the bottom 5! First, they say they don’t have things for the safety of the animals, but you begin to realize they do it to save a buck! We actually seen the jaguar licking the ground looking for water! The elephants had one hugging a boulder with it trunk and leaning against it looking like it was going to die any second! All the animals but one cage of monkeys looked lethargic and pitiful. However let me go back to the beginning. The best part of the zoo was the free parking. We bought a combo ticket at the aquarium the day before, when we got to the photographer I remembered they had a train that was supposed to travel and have hop on and off privileges all day so I asked where we can buy them and she said I don’t know over there is Information. We bought the tickets and asked for a map, they don’t have because of animal safety. However the map is downloadable onLine, however the train stops and routs are not on them! Also, throughout the park we only seen two signs for train stops. That was after we was lied the entire zoo! Then we decided to take the train ride because they do off an article. Kristen I believe her name was the the second best part of the zoo! She drove the street train very well and was great at giving a narrative. We also learned the train was shutting down two hours early for a special event…..but was there a reduction in cost, of course not. You know you are going to pay or eating at any attraction and this does not disappoint. However, I have never been anywhere that flu train drinks are not refillable. No lids and stares for the animals. Instead how about one way out and an employee ensuring everything is grown out? The no lids almost cause the drinks to spill several times. The chicken tenders and fries were a nice proration for the $20 price. The drinks of course were outrageous at 12 ounces for $6. There is an old wagon selling taffy sticks I highly recommend. Not just because the same family has been doing it for 100 years but because it is really good. There is a splash park that was closed, not sure if there was a additional ticket to buy, but ours was not reduced because of it being closed. The tiny ornaments for $20 in the gift shop are cute but WAY overpriced, as most of the items in the gift shops were. Overall, the zoo was a huge disappointment, it was only 73 degrees when we went so the lack of animal activity was a little surprising. I cannot recommend this zoo.

The well-being of our animals is always our top priority, and our expert veterinary and animal care teams work diligently to ensure they receive the highest level of care every single day. However, we understand how important it is for guests to feel confident in that care during their visit.
To clarify, all of our animals have access to fresh water, either in their exhibit or in their back den areas, which may not always be visible to guests. As for the elephant you observed, it was likely interacting with the boulder because our animal care staff place food inside as a form of enrichment to encourage natural foraging behaviors.
We also appreciate your feedback regarding amenities, signage, and pricing. We are always looking for ways to enhance the guest experience, and your comments are valuable to that effort. Our decision to transition to digital maps supports conservation efforts by reducing paper waste, but we understand the importance of easy navigation and will take your comments into consideration. For convenience, we recommend downloading the new Audubon Zoo mobile app, which includes a full schedule of daily activities and an interactive zoo map.
Additionally, Cool Zoo (our splash park) is a seasonal attraction, open from May through Labor Day, providing families with a fun way to beat the New Orleans heat.

We went right after the zoo opened up. It was cool out and the grounds were gorgeous. Animals were in and out. We were not able to see the new exhibit as it was set to open the weekend after we went. Staff were courteous and knowledgeable at the aviary. We enjoyed the peacocks walking around and the kids were able to see them with feathers open.
I did not see a petting zoo. It was one thing we were looking for. It has been quite some time since we visited so I suppose it was no longer there.

Beautiful animals! Loved the reptile house and world of wings! The weather was perfect so the animals were all out and looked very cared for.

The views were amazing. Had such a great time with my family and friends. It was so beautiful the staff was so friendly even with a 2 month old they make everyone feel welcomed!

I’ve been to several zoos and I thoroughly enjoyed this one. While there were a few exhibits under construction at the beginning, and the weather wasn’t good the day I went (no one’s fault but Mother Nature), the zoo had some wonderful animals including Lions and elephants, while the bird area and reptile exhibits were fascinating. It’s a nice place to spend the morning, and you should definitely carve out several hours to see and do everything.

Beautiful zoo, exhibits and animals were well maintained. Africa was a bit disappointing as they took animals off display more than 24 hours before cold weather hits but glad to know they are cautious with the animals’ wellbeing! Got to see a birthday party for one of the gorillas which was fun!

the late TCM lived in NOLA for a number of years and went to the Audobon Zoo many times. When we were in NOLA she insisted we visit the Audobon Zoo and whenever we got close to Audobon Park she would start singing, "We went to the Audobon Zoo....and they all axed for you...." and after we were inside she would approach every animal and she would sing, "Did you ax for me? cause I axed for you...." and then giggle as if she was expecting an answer so this visit w/o her was bittersweet at best.
I still enjoyed my visit (& I think some of the animals even "axed" for her). There is an incredible selection of animals to see (granted not as many as some zoos) and the layout is relatively easy to follow (I still wish they had offered a map). Since it was a cool day in Dec pretty much all of the animals were out and about which is not necessarily true in the heat of a NOLA summer.
A couple of highlights: the section devoted to animals of the swamps and gulf around NOLA, the bird and reptile houses, and the incredible architecture of so many of the buildings in the zoo.
Just visit and enjoy (& ask the animals if they asked for ten cat momma). Note: parking is free and you can get a ticket for the aquarium, insectarium, and zoo at a reduced rate.

Strollers, wagons, and wheel chairs are allowed in the Zoo. Single strollers, double strollers, scooters and standard wheel chairs are available to rent at the Information Booth. A Photo ID or $5.00 deposit is required on all rentals. Prices below include tax.

The food selections consist of the typical stuff chicken fingers, fries, pizza, hit dogs, and salad. However, near the Louisiana Swamp section you can purchase better selections like Jambalaya, meat pies, alligator bites, and some other local favorites. However, I would suggest have lunch somewhere else and then visit the zoo. You can purchase snacks and drinks as needed while visiting. There is so much great food in NOLA. I love the zoo but the food is just ok.

Hello, if we went to the zoo during the summer, would we still see a wide variety of animals or would the heat make it so the animals arent out? Basically would going during the hot summer be worth it or would it be better to go to the aquarium?

Is there a package ticket currently (with Covid) for aquarium and zoo? Online website only shows separate and price for family of 4 is $217....membership family of 4 is $220!!! Help me understand!

Audubon has multiple attractions and you can save money booking on line and booking multiple attractions. The trolley is extra, I want to say we paid $5.00 each. It is hop on hop off but doesn't run that often. Travelzoo will not let me post a link to the costs, You can get the prices at by googling audubon nature institute.

Depending on ages, you might consider adding the trolley ride portion. Call them directly for group rates. I found no discount options available.
