Great experience for art lovers! Wonderfully surprised. NOMA's collection is not extensive but quite varied--Renaissance, Impressionist, Modern, Decorative Arts, etc.--and is well curated. We spent several hours there with a stop in the excellent cafe for lunch. We ran out of time for the Sculpture Garden (next time...). Highly recommend.

Big, Bold, Beautiful

NOMA is big, bold and beautiful with an impressive collection of fine art inside. Outside visitors can stroll through an extensive sculpture garden with many benches for rest or contemplation. The museum and its sculpture garden sit in the middle of an enormous park with a lake and many paths for hiking and biking. Definitely a tranquil place to relax and chill.

As native New Yorkers and long time residents of DC, we have a pretty high bar for art museums and this one filled the bill. We were interested in the special exhibits and were pleased that the museum's own collection was so interesting. Highly recommended.

It was a dream come true to find out my artwork, "Maman Brigitte: Maman's Day" was acquired permenantly to the New Orleans Museum Of Art. To see folk view your work as an artist was the best feeling ever! Esp engaging the viewer ane then exposing yourself as the artist. Not many people get the chance to meet an artist talk about his art. Im glad I made beacoup folk visit to NO a memorable one, cause met John Lister III before the fame.

Arte a tutto tondo!

Museo dalle dimensioni affrontabili, molto piacevole.
Disposto su due piani offre alcuni classici anche italiani e molta arte moderna.
Un buon accento anche su opere locali.
Molte aree sono dedicate alle esposizioni temporanee, ben gestite.
Ottimo bar interno.

So many activities to do here!

This is a fantastic place to stop, rain or shine.

It offers the Art Museum itself, the Sculpture Garden, an Amusement Park, Botanical Garden and more.

We actually forgot about the Botanical and didn't have time for the museum, so I can only review the Garden and museum exterior.

I'd say, they have the grounds really nicely decorated and landscaped. You'll see wildlife too 😊

The parking is along the road leading up to the Museum, so be prepared to walk. They do have handicapped parking closer to the museum.

They offer bathrooms on the back left of the museum on the outside, if you're looking at the main entrance of the museum. They were pretty clean and nice.

We didn't pay anything to get into the Sculpture Garden.

They have fully paved sidewalks and driveway. The unpaved parts can be uneven, but in general, it's very easy to walk anywhere.

They have paddle boats, and various bridge pathways.

All in all, I'd recommend stopping here for something. I really wish we'd remembered the Botanical Garden 😩

Focus on the sculpture garden!

The inside collection doesn’t hold a candle to that of bigger city museums (NYC or Philly come to mind), but they’ve curated some interesting specialty exhibits. The photography exhibit now hanging is very very good. The highlight of the visit was the sculpture garden. It’s a wonderfully relaxing way to get your art “fix” and some fresh air. Make sure you reserve some stamina for it!

A great collection of art and sculptures to walk through and if you'd like you can relax by the lake. A must visit in New Orleans if you enjoy history and culture.

Well worth a visit. It is a medium size art museum with a very good collection. Not what you might expect in NOLA - given the party reputation. Regional art, as a well as international works and themes. Very nice sculpture garden surrounding the museum.

Really surprised at this collection! I didn’t hear people recommending it who’ve been to New Orleans before, but they have a lot of master painters works here by Picasso, Kandinsky, Degas and Miro. There are so many others, and it spanned some ancient art history and modern art and art and design with chairs and ornamental designs. And the cafe was great, it’s a hidden gem!

There is a restaurant in the park, but you should really take the streetcar back down Canal to get the best food. Mandina's is on Canal, and the food was great. Italian. But why not just ride the streetcar all the way back down Canal to eat at the palace cafe or get off on Baronne and eat at Domenica.

Where is a safe place to stay near the museum. Dont need to go into NOLA.

I would think that any of the newer hotels with high customer satisfaction ratings would be 'safe'. If you're coming from a long ways away and dont want to stay in NOLA, you could always stay on the north shore of the Ponchartrain, nice towns there, but a little drive back into NOLA again to see the attractions. I've never had any trouble staying in New Orleans if you just observe normal common sense and awareness of your surroundings.

There is parking near the bike and paddle boat area and throughout the park It's a beautiful Park all around I was just disappointed w I th the museum price

Does this museum still have the Faberge eggs?

The collection that was at NOMA for several years, the Matilda Geddings Gray Foundation Collection, is currently at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, but the museum does still have some Faberge pieces, including small eggs. Currently (March 2016), these objects are displayed in the 2nd floor elevator lobby.
