This place is a hidden gem. Bob gave us an excellent guided tour and I would urge anyone visiting New Orleans to pay a visit. Fascinating family history and very atmospheric house.

Excellent option to visit an afternoon with family or friends! Located near the center of New Orleans, it is a beautiful mansion and gardens! We really enjoyed our visit!!

This was really special. The gardens are designed as a series of rooms, and are spectacular. The house is grand but not stuffy or intimidating; you want to just move in. There is a little "kitchen" (no appliances) that is just for flower arranging, and a similar thing that is a gift wrapping station. So charming. The couple that lived there were great philanthropists. One of the best things is that we were the only ones on our tour, so we had a private tour! Please tip your guide. Nice little gift shop on the premises, too.

I have visited New Orleans more than a few times over the years.
Each time represents another opportunity to have some of the city's surprises revealed.
With this trip, NOLA offered a hidden gem known as Longue Vue House & Gardens.
Longue Vue is very much a woman of mystery. Her confidences and secrets are only reluctantly revealed although her beauty is stunning and immediately apparent. Only someone with a strong understanding of who she is, who she has been, and where she wants to go can really help you to take her full measure.
Luckily, our guide for this rendezvous was Bob. With a firm hand, he steered us to a full appreciation of what Longue Vue offers to the visitor willing to pursue her.
She will haunt my reverie forever.

This lovely house and gardens that offer a window into the lives and times of the wealthy philanthropists who lived there in the early 20th century. The house and furnishings are well preserved and interesting. The gardens are pleasant demonstrating the owners wide ranging travels with a section modeled on the Alhambra of Spain. Out guide, Bob, provided fascinating insights into the house, the history, the previous occupants, and the gardens. The tour is well worth it.

I visited Longvue on a rainy day and was blown away by its beauty and the story behind it and the family who built it. Simply walking through would be a treat but our guide really added to the experience. Even before we walked in the door he gave us insights that augmented our appreciation as we viewed the different rooms. My favorite room was the "sleeping porch" with the Murphy Beds that magically appeared. It was such a gracious and stunning home without being grandiose. Our guide was Bob. I'd recommend asking for him as he knows so much, not just about the house but also the spectacular gardens.

This is a beautiful house and gardens! Kendall was a wonderful tour guide, very knowledgeable. The history was very interesting, I had a lovely time!

Off the beaten path in outskirts of New Orleans, but well worth to visit on your own
with uber from Down town. beautiful grounds around the villa and great story about the owners, who donated buildings and gardens to Trust, who preserve all very well.
great early 20th century history, n plantation, so no bad history, only good...
$15.00 pp for private tour inside the house. highly recommend.

Yes, you can just show up. I will add that it’s on the way back to the airport so you can catch it on the way out.

Also, Longview Gardens, while on the Metairie Bus, is on the Left side of Metairie Road as you approach the Canal, and you can see the Road that is the Entry into the Long View Mansion. Be certain the bus driver knows where you are trying to go and he will cooperate.

hello! Is there a charge to tour just the grounds? Not particularly interested in the house, as lovely as it looks.

I'm pretty sure there was - my friend treated me to my entrance ticket so I'm not 100% sure, but I do know there was a deal that she found on line the day we went which meant we got really cheap entrance. I hope that helps somewhat.

You can catch the Canal streetcar from the downtown area, until it's last stop near City Park/Old Metairie. From there it is about a mile walk to get to Longue Vue. A better option would be to catch a cab.
