stunning area!

Came to Ischgl in August for a walking holiday - superb walks in the Alps - having been to Austria many times in summer I have never seen so many wild flower meadows - it is absolutely beautiful. The walks are well signed - the valley walks are stunning and fairly easy and the higher ones are fantastic with the best views imaginable. There are many high lakes and reservoirs to walk to and around.

We enjoyed but mixed weather

We enjoyed the runs, blues and reds not as well pisted as some we have skied, weather was mixed with lots of snow. Whiteouts and rain as well as a blue bird day.

Kann man sich mal anschauen aber kein Grund wiederzukommen.

Ja eh super. Geile Pisten, guter Schnee, alles wirklich in Ordnung.

ABER trotzdem um Ecken teurer als woanders und in Summe dann doch nicht besser. Schladming, Sallbach-Hinterglemm, Zillertal können alle das was Ischgl auch kann nur halt dann doch deutlich günstiger und meiner Meinung nach auch freundlicher.

+ Höhenlage und daher auch im März noch guter Schnee
+ schöne, breite Pisten

- meist nur kurze Abfahrten, selten mal mehr als 500 Hm
- teurer als alle bis jetzt besuchten Skigebiete (bei allen, Essen, Liftkarte, Hotel......) teilweise richtig Abzocke
- kein Apres-Ski am Berg, gleich nach Liftschluss wird man runtergejagt.

Excellent piste area on Swiss / Austria border

Good variety of blue and reds pisted and off piste runs.
Modern lift system well groomed and two good restaurants at Alp Tricia
as well as ultra modern restaurants at Sellet gondola and also brand new restaurant in another bowl
Really good area when wind and visibility become a issue

Always working hard to improve

Some ski resort do the bare minimum but this isn’t one of those. Having not been here for a couple of years, we were very impressed with the number of lifts that had been upgraded. Throughout the week, we only rode on one older style chairlift. Most of the new ones have heated Recaro style seats.

Whilst we were lucky with the level of snowfall while we were there, this didn’t stop the region regularly using their huge number of snow cannons on the ‘at risk’ areas.

I really liked the addition (since we were last here) of the three ‘Smugglers’ ski routes although I think even more should be done to clearly mark the whole routes - not just at the start of each piste.

Due to the grading of the slopes, I wouldn’t recommend the region for beginners.

Zeer uitgebreid skigebied, deels Oostenrijk, deels Zwitserland. Redelijk hoog gelegen, waardoor het vrij sneeuwzeker is. Mooie, goed verzorgde pistes, met moderne liftaccomodaties.

Ischgl is a combination of
a) the great Ischgl-Samnaun ski area, which is partly on the Austrian side and partly on the Swiss side of the border of the two countries. You hardly recognize on which side of the border you are as there are no formalities in crossing the border, excluding random checks concerning the amount of tax-free shopping you may have done in Samnaun on the Swiss side of the border.
b) a village with pleasant traditional alp village atmosphere, but a wide selection of hotels and restaurants

Die Verbindung in die Schweiz macht das Gebiet vielseitig und attraktiv. Die Pisten sind hervorragend präpariert. Für den angezeigten Preis bietet der Arlberg allerdings deutlich mehr.

Lovely views, not for beginners

I came here with a group of friends of varying skills and it really doesn't cater to beginners at all. There are incredible instructors but the blue slopes are awful for beginners, in fact most have areas that I would consider red, which is not helpful for unconfident skiers. Also, there is nothing allocated for beginners so I often had advanced skiers getting absurdly close while I was trying to go down a blue slope. This place would benefit from having a beginner only slope that is truly suitable for beginners.
