Carol and Lynn Unser of Coastal Journeys Unlimited, Inc., led a small group on a 9-day educational/cultural trip to the big island, Hawaii, in early March. The group enjoyed 6 days near Kona at a private villa with a beautiful view of the ocean. At sunset the first evening, we were thrilled to see a "green flash" as the sun faded below the horizon. Day excursions to locations on the north and west areas of the island included settlement history, agricultural history and changes, and current scientific and engineering research, as well as snorkeling, whale watching, and sampling local foods. From Kona we traveled in sunshine east to Hilo and then south for 2 days at Kilauea Lodge. Each evening we visited Kilauea Volcano to view spectacular night eruptions. On the last day of the trip we continued around the south end of the island, stopping at black sand beaches to observe as many as 10 green sea turtles climbing up the beach. The Unser's continue to provide exceptional educational travel opportunities suited to interests and pace of travelers. It was a great pleasure to travel with them on this trip.

Coastal Journeys of Hawaii offers an incredible experience of the Big Island. With time on both the Kona and Hilo sides, and visiting the northern and sourhern tips, it seems we left no stone unturned! From exquisite snorkeling, to watching ten giant green sea turtles coming up to shore: from incredibly delicious locally sourced meals, to experts who accompanied us, explaining everything we saw through the eyes of those who knew and loved this land, we were treated to every comfort and courtesy, even airport pick-up and return! An excellent value, and truly a journey of a lifetime.

My sister and I had a MOST wonderful tour with Carol and Lynn Unser as guides, instructors, and hospitable hosts. The villa in Kona was perfect.(Ocean view, pool & spa, private cook providing delicious meals eaten on the lanai, comfortable travel to beaches and attractions covering the Big Island) While in Hilo we stayed in the delightful Kilauea Lodge with a terrific restaurant and nice gift shop. We observed the Kilauea lava flow two nights, a thrilling experience. It's our second tour with Carol and Lynn and they are the best!
