I visited on 8/12/12 and the store was empty, cleaned out. The lady at the candy store next door says that he shut down on 12/31/11 and moved to the mainland.
I ended up at Kona Scooter Center and gave it a 5 star review.

Rented a great hybrid bike from Mike at Kona Beach n Bikes for an afternoon cruise on Ali'i drive. He was the only one I could find who had a half day rate ($10) instead of the minimum $25 everywhere else. What better way to check out the beaches, get some exercise, avoid the Kona parking hassle and get a Mai Tai at Don's for a measly ten bucks (Mai Tai's extra). Nice guy to boot.

This was my first trip to the Big Island and I wanted to catch some of the local scenary via scooter. So after a couple of hours on foot exploring I came across Mike's shop, Kona Beach n Bikes. Mike was very knowledgeable and friendly. His rates were very competetive and the scooter I rented was top notch. Mike informed me of some routes I could take to visit other great sites. It was the best Four Bucks I've ever spent on gas. If you're on the Big Island stop and visit Mike... Thanks Mike!!

I was recently employed as a musician on the NCL Pride Of America for five weeks cruising around the islands of Hawaii and looked forward to renting from Mike and Travis at Kona Beach n' Bikes every week.
The first time I rented from them was with two friends looking to explore the Big Island before we had to get back to our ship for work. We got three excellent bikes and took them out for most of the day down Queen Kaahumanu Hwy. We explored lava tubes, body surfed with locals, and even heard whales singing while we snorkeled. When my friends had to go back to work, Mike offered me a discounted rate on extending the rental for the remainder of the day. I took him up on his offer and he gave me excellent directions to the best snorkeling spot on the island. I took off on the directions he gave me ('the scenic route' as Mike put it) and was having the ride of my life through the small towns dotting the hillside with the Pacific sparkling down below. Unfortunately the rear tire on my rental scooter got a puncture hole in it and I had to pull over and give Mike a call. He immediately got in his truck and came out to drive me to my destination (Captain Cook point,) even waiting while I snorkeled before returning me with plenty of time to spare back in town. If there were an award for service excellence, I would give it to Kona Beach n' Bikes without a doubt. They were a highlight of my time spent in Hawaii.
