Me and my three kids had an incredible time and will hopefully be back soon!
A very special thanks to Hannah and Frankie from the guest services team for their assistance. It was my first visit and I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Hannah was up at the front. She was very helpful explaining the programming and getting me the right tickets for everything. Unfortunately, my youngest has autism and was not a huge fan of the laser show. So, we headed back into the museum to see whether or not there was something else we could do. Frankie was more than happy to help us. She suggested we try an IMAX documentary and was very kind to explain to us what each show was about. We ended up going to see one about dinosaurs! I also told her about my youngest son's autism and she said the center holds special events for kids with disabilities, which is incredible to know for the future.
Without their help, I would've been frantic, so I just wanted to make sure they received the acknowledgment they deserve for being truly passionate about their jobs.

It was my first time visiting since the pandemic and, although vastly different from what I remember, it is still a phenomenal place to experience and explore for all ages. The dinosaurs and the butterfly house are classic staples that never get old, in my opinion. Although we didn't get a chance to visit the planetarium, me and my fiancé did watch a laser show and like all the live science shows (shout outs to Brad and Tunny for some amazing performances). We spent like all day there and still didn't get a chance to do everything we wanted, so at the end we decided to buy a membership.
The staff was incredible and very informative. The girl at the information desk (I think her name was like Freya?) was super helpful explaining the different levels and benefits. She was even able to refund our tickets to put towards the pass, which was super nice.
I cant wait to go back this summer! Definitely worth it.

Enjoyed the shuttle rides from the hotel to here - then spent the day in here because there was lots to see - came because Elvis was here making 'It Happened at the World's Fair' Walking in his footsteps :) Elvis history - has to be done lol Butterflies were gorgeous - enjoyed watching a couple of Music concerts in the cinema - Loved the dinos! Loved the horror (sort of) ha ha eeekkkkk Great for children very educational. Lifts provided/drinking water on tap. Highly recommend.

Last time I was there was about 10 years ago. Not only has there been little to no change in the exhibits, much of it is in disrepair. The water features are drained, but there is no mention of that on the website. 3/4 of the dinosaurs didn't work. Planaterium show was disorganized. The laser show was outdated and underwhelming. I spent almost $100 and another $30 on parking. Felt cheated.

Went there with an 8 year old that loves science and trying things out. We were visiting the area and mixed this in with some standard sightseeing. We've been to the exploratorium and academy of sciences in sf. While this isn't as large, kiddo still had a great time with the exhibits. The opportunity to explore and touch and try things independently was really great. We spent a lot of time in the maker space, trying out kids of ways to create. The butterfly space was also fun. There were a few space exhibits that definitely clicked some concepts into kiddo's understanding as well.
It wasn't overly crowded on the day we went, which also made for a nice relaxed atmosphere.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend this space for families without children, or families with teens, but I think this is a great option for the 12 and under crowd.

A couple of points from our visit:
- entrance is rather expensive and we were surprised that children from the age of 3 have to pay
- quite a few exhibits are currently closed for renovations but the entrance fee has not been reduced
- the animatronic dinosaurs we saw upon entry were far too scary for a 3 year old but were entrancing to older children!
- all the hands on fun was wonderful with a good mix of fine and large motor skills used
- the butterfly exhibit was great, boring for our 3 year old nephew but wonderful for slightly older children
- the tide pool was fascinating (as an adult)
- the water play area was a huge hit for the 3 year old

Our family has had membership at the PSC on and off over the last 35 plus years. This week we were excited to sign up again for a family membership and our family of three generations visited there today - grown kids who use to love visiting there when they were children, now with three of the next generation, ages 5,6, and 8.
We enjoyed what was there, but it is a center that is in need of help. It was sad to see so many spaces closed. It felt like the PSC has been on a bad diet and is a little emaciated. I hope we see some of the wonderful spaces available be filled with the kind of memorable learning experiences that use to bring us back week after week and renew our membership year after year.

Hi JoAnna,
Thank you for this feedback. We appreciate your family's patronage of Pacific Science Center and are glad that you were able to enjoy our space during your last visit.
You mentioned that some spaces were closed during your visit. As a part of our renewal, Pacific Science Center is currently in the process of reimagining certain floor spaces on our campus. However, our renewal is a multi-year process that involves much more than refreshing the exhibits on our campus. We are thinking critically about how we can best serve our community and how we use our resources to create the greatest impact. When we were forced to close our in-person experiences during the pandemic and downsize our staff by 90%, we turned our focus to delivering high-quality, accessible digital and virtual programming to learners and communities without geographic limitations.
This greatly expanded online content complements the educational programming we provide in schools, libraries, and community centers across the state that has long been a critical part of our work – delivered for free or deeply discounted to youth, families, educators, and schools in low-income communities. In 2021 alone, we had more than 675,000 visits to our virtual library.
We are proud of the ways our team used the pandemic as a catalyst for innovation that enabled PacSci to actually expand our overall impact during COVID. You can read about it at https://pacsci.org/impact/.
Regarding the exhibits, I agree that we have work to do. We have made the improvements that are possible with the limited financial resources available to us. As an independent non-profit organization, we rely on financial contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government to invest in our facilities and continue to make an impact in our community. Every ticket purchase and membership purchase helps us move forward, improve the experiences on our campus and extend our reach to more communities that need us.
We appreciate your support as we explore a wide range of opportunities to improve the experiences we provide at PacSci and throughout the region. We’re excited for the future of PacSci and we hope you’ll join us along the way.
Please reach out to me directly at feedback@pacsci.org to continue the conversation.
Sincerely,
Raphaela Romero | Director of Admissions and Guest Service

I went with my husband since we both enjoy science centers and museums. The place didn't feel geared to an older crowd. To be fair, we weren't able to do any of the major shows since they were sold out at the time, and some parts looked roped off. For us, the price wasn't worth it, but I could indeed see it definitely being very enjoyable for family's with young kids (7 and under maybe). I did however enjoy the dinosaurs and the butterflies. They also had some neat things to experiment with outside. It wasn't a terrible place at all, just wasn't for us. If your looking for more adult activities I'd skip this one and check out MoPop or the Glass Gardens.

Hi Skele1,
Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed our Dinosaur Exhibit and Butterfly House, but I'm sorry to hear that your overall experience didn't meet expectations.
Many of our spaces, from our Planetarium to our Laser Dome, are great places for people of all ages to explore their curiosity. While our Planetarium and Laser Dome are included in general admission, they do require timed tickets, so we encourage guests to reserve a spot ahead of time. If you didn't get the opportunity to see one of our Laser or Planetarium shows during your visit, I hope you are able to stop by again soon to experience them.
We also run occasional 21+ events in the evening that often include Planetarium and Laser Shows -- to keep updated on upcoming events and experiences, you can visit: https://pacificsciencecenter.org/events/.
You also mentioned that some of our spaces were roped off during your visit. As a part of our ongoing renewal, some areas are closed while we reimagine and redesign them for the future. However, many of the experiences previously found currently closed areas are open—just in a new location. This includes our Maker and Innovation space and Tinker Tank, which are larger than ever with more to explore. Our blog, which can be found at https://pacificsciencecenter.org/blog/are-you-looking-for-me/, is a great resource to learn more about the exhibits and experiences available onsite.
As PacSci is in the early stages of our renewal, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we plan to expand the programming available on-site and online. We’re excited for the future of PacSci and we hope you’ll join us along the way.
Please reach out to me directly at feedback@pacsci.org to continue the conversation.
Best,

So disappointed. We took our 6 year old grandson and 3 year old grand daughter. My husband and his family, lived in Seattle most of his childhood. They went there almost every weekend. He says nothing has changed since the 60s and 70s other than the laser show and the IMAX theater. And removing all the fun stuff such as the rides. Where are all the donations going? Certainly not here. New sports Arena? I get it, the sports arena brings in big time money i think that's great but, can we even out the spending and donation budget a little?
This is so extremely outdated.

Good morning! I would allow for a minimum of 4 hours to do this. There is so much to see, lots of reading and interaction. You want to take your time to see this place. If the your children are big into the science then this is the place to go and it will end up being longer but they are having a blast.
Have a great time!

Hey Melissa, they were giving out flyers just outside the museum, it was their first day of trying them out, the cashier girl was just learning of how to process them. If you don't happen to come by the flyer people(they were pretty vocal and easy to spot), maybe ask at ticket sales booth at the entrance? Good luck!

Would a 2 year old enjoy this museum? Or is this place more geared to older children?

A 2 year old would enjoy a good portion of the museum but might run out of energy quickly with a ton of stimulation. There are a few spots where they do live demonstrations and the touch-tank might be fun as well.

You are welcome to bring your backpack into the IMAX theater as long as it will fit under your seat or you hold it in your lap. The aisles must remain clear for safety. If your backpack is too large, we will keep it in a secure area for you to retrieve after the movie. Note that weapons and tobacco are not permitted at the Science Center.
