Piper Glen Golf Course is located in between Springfield and Chatham on IL Rt. 4. The course opened in the mid 1990's. The course has hosted the Illinois State Amateur golf tournament. It is a popular venue for outings and receptions. Piper Glen is an eighteen hole, Par 72 course with five different tee boxes. Piper Glen has won numerous awards like Golf Digest "Top 50 Under $50" and 2015 Best Public Golf Course according to the State Journal-Register. I will tell you that course has been through some financial struggles. The previous ownership filed for bankruptcy in late 2015. The new ownership group is making strides to get the course back on track. The condition of the course was solid. The fairways were great shape. The greens were good. Overall, I think it is making a comeback. So, if you are looking for a challenging golf course to play in Springfield, consider playing Piper Glen.

This was a tougher course than what I was planning on. It had some tight fairways as well as long par 4's. The course was under receivership that may have caused some deferred maintenance. Overall a great course for the value and worth another play.

Played on 3/26/16 and the course was in fantastic condition! Previous owner let course go in 2015, but new management has really done wonders. Plush fairways, trimmed rough, healthy greens. Although better than last year, the sand traps could still use some work. $25 to play 18 on Saturday afternoon well worth it.

I tried to play Piper Glen during the end of August 2015. We booked a deal through a golf app that I use constantly. We get to the golf course and notice a fairway is burnt up (brown) on the way in - no big deal we figured, sometimes disease happen. Go to check in and the clubhouse is a little messy and the staff somewhat irritated but maybe they were remodeling. Guy checks me in and I head out to the carts, took me 3 carts to find on that worked. Head to the putting green and the cups hadn't been changed in months, the holes were caving in. The putting green had several brown patches which I was still attributing to disease as it was a perfect season to maintain a course in the midwest this year. Getting ready for the first tee then we saw more of the course - the ENTIRE COURSE WAS BROWN/BURNT and DEAD. Piper Glen was in perfect shape the year before....however it has been ruined. DO NOT PLAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. 100% AFWUL.

Fairways and greens were holding up in May & June but when mid July got here and it got dry everything started burning up. Approach shot on the greens is like hitting the cart path. The management has no clue what customer service is. If it were not for that fact that I play in a league, I would not go near this dump.

I was in town on business and took my clubs because the course was only a couple miles south of my hotel. I walked in on a busy Monday -men's league - and asked to play 9. I was greeted and assured he could fit me in and he did right away. For less than $20 I played 9 with a cart. The course is in GREAT shape! Greens were slow, but the fairways are AMAZING!! Very narrow on the back 9 that I played, and challenging for my bogie golf game. I will endeavor to play this course every time I return to the area. Bring extra balls if you hit straight every time, the rough is rough!

I played this course April 16, 2015. Under previous ownership this course was always in the top 10 courses to play in Illinois. Now I doubt it would make the top 100. First let me say that the fairways and greens were in good shape but that was about all.
The rough had lots of little yellow flowers growing everywhere. Here is wild concept, sand in the sand traps. I know I'm talking crazy but let's give it a try, instead of mud & dirt. There seemed to be a lot projects that have been started and just left partially done.
Many of the tee boxes were in bad shape especially the par 3s. A lot of them need to be leveled out as well.
This course should be a lot better than it is for want you pay.
I hope this owner gets his act together, stop firing people and get this course back to where it needs to be or sell it to someone who will.

we have been to Piper several times. The first time we bought a bag of range balls and was told mat only. when we got on the range and saw most of the players were not on the mat. then we called the front desk and asked why we were told mat only. the guy answered they were ok but you were not because they were from chicago (double stardards?). another time we played 18 holes and were told cart path only. at 2nd hole, we saw 4 players in front of us at 2nd hole and 3rd hole drove the cart all over the places and we called the front desk to check if it is the cart path only. we were told yes, then we said the others were not. we were told please to tell them cart path only. when just drove over to tell them, the superintedent, "rod" just passed by and called the front desk to accused us not obey the rule (we knew this when we finished and returned the cart key and were blamed by the owner, "david") we said were told to remind the by you guys. he said just worry about yourself not others.

This course will challenge your accuracy with your clubs. Build within a golf community it is laid out pretty well. Houses and trees often restrict the forgiveness of the course, and require you to strategize you next shot.

This course was a great course "ONCE UPON A TIME". 2010 started the slide-have played numerous times and each time is worse. No sand-divots everywhere-tees are chewed up-arrogance galore!
