Best jeep tour with hike

I took the Landmannalaugar tour today. The driver/guide was Awesome. It was peaceful not to drive on gravel roads and see all cool places. I will highly recommend this tour and this company!

Amazing scenery, dreadfully maintained walking tracks

This is a review of the Vatnajokull National Park particularly the walking tracks. The views are splendid in a unique area but the information on the state of the tracks is highly misleading to the point of being dangerous. We are experienced hikers but we found the tracks so badly maintained and washed out that in places they were barely passable. The walk up to Svartifoss is well maintained but the S5/S6 alternate route back which was signposted blue (easy) was anything but especially the decent. You want to attract people then repair your tracks and fix your misleading signs.

Our guide Ingvar was wonderful

We went with our guide Ingvar who was very nice, pleasant and informative. He even helped us plan for the rest of our trip by suggesting places & accommodations. He speaks good English and friendly to everyone we met along the road .

A fun experience

My husband enjoyed the experience of snowmobiling, while I enjoyed the journey to and from the base camp more. Both of the guides Ingvar and Alex, were helpful and gave us insight into the local area and the process of snowmobiling. We were given warm protective suits, helmet, goggles and gloves, to keep out the cold. At the time of our visit most of the lower snow had melted and it was misty on the glacier summit, so the view towards the south coast was good but limited. Overall the atmosphere and scenery was great and it was well worth the trip. We feel this activity is probably more suited to a younger age group that ourselves (60+), who have strong shoulders and arms, to ease the driving of the snowmobile, but it was still fun.

Exhilerating

Unfortunately our snowmobile tour had to be cancelled at short notice because of the weather but we were immediately offered an alternative experience and took a 2.5 hour buggy tour which was exhilerating. Well managed and quite an experience. It did seem to demand some level of competence/confidence at managing a buggy offroad on some very wet and boggy and flooded tracks but this was all part of the experience. There was also the option to ride with one of the tour leaders.

The moment you realise you are so small on Earth

I am not a big fan of group tours, but I must say that this tour was very well organised and I truly enjoyed it! The group was small (maybe 12 persons) our guide (John, which is of corse not written like that I guess…) was kind, patient and smart. We could learn the history of the glacier and visit it in total safe. I think that the overall experience will be one of the best for me in Iceland.

Overpriced crowded tour !

Chaotic organisition. Ride in the truck was ok but could also be done by a less impressive vehicle. Extremely crowded cave visit. Rushed through one cave where we expected to see tree. Could have been an ok tour if they organised it better and in smaller groups. This way it was not worth the money. Do not recommend this visit for this high price. For 160 Euro per person it felt like a tourist trap.

Unorganized Tour!!!

Totally unorganized, we arrived at meeting point at Ice Cave Bistro and no one could tell us where to go, saying oh their in the restroom will be here shortly… totally chaotic. Your crowded in the van/truck. We enjoyed seeing the ice cave but you feel rushed to go through it. The extra time is given for you to climb a hill and slide down… big deal!!! Would have rather spent more time in the ice cave. For the cost we don’t feel we got our monies worth!

Incredible visit to an ice cave

This was the highlight of my trip to Iceland! I absolutely loved the ice cave. Pick up at the back lot of the shopping center in Vik. Easy to find. Guide was a bit quite - answered all of our questions but did not volunteer too much info. Shame as I would have loved a bit of narration as to the scenery around us on our way to the glacier.
Cave area itself was well maintained for late season. Cave was brilliant but that is Mother Nature! People/group management could have been a bit better as we were bottle necked going in to the cave and did not have much direction.
Cave was amazing and the entire area was beautiful. Highly recommend.

Southcoast Adventure super jeep tour with Ingvar

We took a super jeep tour with Ingvar Hafberg at Southcoast Adventure in Hella, Iceland this week. Just me and my boyfriend in the car which made it more special. Ingvar was a great driver & guide, telling us all about the route up, the glacier itself & surrounding areas. This was our first ever trip to Iceland, made memorable by this trip, especially as we didn't really know what to expect from the super jeep tour, nor what to expect from going on a glacier. The super jeep was incredible, and the drive was just as much fun as being on the glacier itself.
The conditions were incredibly clear, even Ingvar was surprised, so we had a good time going round different parts of the glacier & mountains in the super jeep, and eventually we got to climb the peak of the glacier to see incredible views! Ingvar provided us with crampons to help with the quick peak climb, and although I was quite scared of what seemed to me like a very vertical climb (it only took a few minutes but I'm a bit of a chicken), with the help of my boyfriend we made it to the top with Ingvar! He was even happy to stop along the way for us to see the views/take photos etc. Thanks to Southcoast adventure, and specifically Ingvar for an amazing trip - definitely recommend!
