We were surprised to be so impressed because the buildings and landscape are not special. What makes the visit worthwhile is to get close to the Iceland horses, which are so different from other horse encounters you may have had. The horses are small, almost like ponies, and extremely friendly to people. Additionally, we found it very interesting to see how the farm uses natural thermal water for all their heating and hot water needs. This is unique to Iceland. They offer fine horse rides (we didn't do that).

Arctic Adventure Tours took us to Sturlureykirkhorses in Reykholt, as examples of Family Farms, Iceland horses, and geothermal house heating.
Hrafnhildur, our hostess, presented a comprehensive overview and movies of the farm, and the iceland horses, and the unique geothermal heating used throughout the farm and the house, from their local hot spring.
This is a MUST Visit, if in the area.

Friendly horse farm visit not far from the Ring Road in west Iceland (near Reykholt). You can visit the horse stables and horses in the pastures, see the geothermal bread bakery, taste some geothermal rye bread, and view the hot springs and small geyser on the farm. I rode one of the horses in their indoor ring but you can also go on a trail ride if you have the time. This is a small-ish tourist operation but a serious horse farm that breeds and trains Icelandic horses. Definitely worth a visit!

Non solo sono stato sbalzato a terra da un cavallo che era stato definito tranquillo senza alcuna assistenza post trauma con la signora proprietaria che se ne è fregata altamente (ghiaccio creme per contusioni:il nulla) ma mi hanno fatto pagare l'ora intera dopo che il giro è durato 10 minuti esatti:scongliatissimo.
Not only was I thrown to the ground by a horse that had been described as calm without any post-trauma assistance with the lady owner who didn't care highly (ice cream for bruises: nothing) but they charged me for the whole hour after that the tour lasted exactly 10 minutes: very discouraged.

So unexpected, yet very cool! This working horse farm was so special, including learning all about the fascinating Icelandic horse, feeding the horses and of course the geyser baked bread. Very unique heating system to explore as well. Worth the stop!

Neat place to see Icelandic horses! They are beautiful animals and they let you feed them. Rye bread baked by geothermal springs is delicious, too.

Came here on a tour with Artic Adventures which our tour guide Gunnar had kept as a surprise. We were so happy we got to see and learn about Icelandic horses, and we even got to feedthem! Even better was getting to see the baking of Rye Bread in process in a geothermal hole in the ground. We also got to taste the rye bread. AMAZING!
The dogs were also so nice and a great touch to the whole experience

Étant cavalières expérimentées et maîtrisant les 3 allures, nous avons voulu découvrir les chevaux Islandais et le traditionnel tolt. Nous avions réservé pour 1 h de balade. Grosse déception, nous avons monté seulement 45 minutes ! Au vu du prix (120€), nous aurions aimé en profiter jusqu'au bout ! C'est le seul point négatif car l'accueil était top, nos poneys supers et les paysages magnifiques.

We had such a wonderful time at Sturlureykir today! A last minute booking for our 4 year old who had never been on a horse before but has loved spotting these beautiful creatures on our travels through Iceland. Staff were so accommodating and friendly, and our daughter instantly fell in love with her horse Skjona, who she got to brush and feed as well as riding in the indoor hall. The horses themselves are extremely good natured and clearly very well loved and cared for. A very special thank you to the fabulous staff member who was with us (I’m so sorry I didn’t note down your name!!!). You were incredibly patient and warm, really putting our slightly apprehensive little one at ease and making sure she had a great time. Would highly recommend a visit here and I hope we can one day return.

Fiz apenas a visita, sem a cavalgada. Inicialmente, são explicados alguns fatos sobre os cavalos islandeses, depois vamos aos estábulos onde é possível ver e tirar fotos de perto com os cavalos.
É interessante, mas se você apenas quer fotografar os cavalos, pode ser mais simples simplesmente parar (num lugar seguro) e fotografar os cavalos de alguma fazenda na beira da estrada.

Not sure but Im sure he will do just fine :) they have longer and shorter tours... he will have a day that he will late forget 🥰

Can you ride the horses or just meet them? One of the reviewers said you could just pet them. We really want to go on . A ride. Also, how old do you have to be to ride a mhm d vCard are there a lot of hills

You can drop by and meet the horses, or try to ride with a guide who will tame the horse in front.. or take a longer tour on your own riding the horse yourself... what ever you dream of you probably can do so... I heard of ppl who are used to ride, they booked a few day trip on summertime with 24 hours of sunlight and they absolutely loved it!! 🙂
