Well worth a visit from Boston. Impeccably curated exhibitions and thoughtfully presented. This told a story which was really well articulated.

The first floor exhibition is good and interesting, while the rest felt a bit confusing. Or tried to cover too much in too little space. Still well worth the visit.

This museum is attached to the Harvard Museum of Natural History and one admission fee covers both. It was a wonderful place with things you don't often see in other museums.

This museum is connected to the Harvard Museum of Natural History. I paid 15 dollars for one ticket and got both!
This museum focuses on ethnology, anthropology, and archaeology, particularly of the Americas.
When I went, there were exhibits on North American indigenous people (with real belongings of Sitting Bull). They have exhibits on Inuit people (I learned a lot about how colonization affected them and how that was related to Harvard and the explorers who eventually made it to the North Pole).
There are exhibits on the Aztecs and Mexico. Tons of totem poles, art pieces. And this is one of the first museums I’ve been to on peoples of the Americas that really worked to educate me on culture and how each piece was used. The “religion” or “belief” (for lack of a better word) behind things. Displays were well written, not too wordy, but really helped me learn more about their ceremonies, dances, and culture.
There is also an exhibit (hard to find a good synonym for that word) on the museum’s role in the World’s Fair, which has many exhibits on Oceana, Asia, and the Americas. Something that struck me here were sculptures of a man and a woman that were reportedly made after measuring and observing many of the average American people. The woman was ultra feminine and the man masculine. These sculptures were brought to the world’s fair to show the difference between white people and “other” people. It was quite enlightening on the climate of the time.
There was also a section covering Harvard and food/dining. Interesting and did work to highlight the privilege of wealthy white men entering Harvard in the early 1900s.

Check out the Central American stelae. They are accurate castings in plaster. The original ones have degraded from exposure to weather, so reachers come to Harvard to see the best examples of stelae.

You might be unaware that you can find two great museums on the Harvard campus in Cambridge, MA. We were pleasantly surprised to visit them both (paid one price). Great way to escape a cold New England afternoon.
