The museum is situated to the east of the city of Atlanta in a suburb called Poncey-Highland.
I took bus 816 from the Downtown area and it dropped me around 10 minutes away from the museum on foot.
It traces the life of Jimmy Carter from his childhood in Plains, Georgia, through his naval career in submarines, his political days as a senator then governorship in Georgia, his presidency and finally his later humanitarian work.
The role played by his wife Rosalynn is well documented particularly her trips to Latin America and assistance in overseeing fair elections in remote places.
There are some great pictures and memorabilia on view. I particularly liked the recreation of the Oval Office.
Whilst his presidency may not be seen too favourably by many, he was a pioneer in environmentalism when he managed to reduce the US consumption of oil by 2 million barrels per day during the crisis in the Seventies.
His humanitarian work saw him receive the Nobel prize for Peace in 2002.
I spent a couple of hours here and paid the senior (over 60) rate of $10 for admission.
Unfortunately the library was closed to the public at the time of my visit.

I was very impressed with this museum. I highly recommend visiting. The collection did a good job of telling the story of President Carter's life before, during, and after his presidency.

The facility is well designed, the layout and presentation are attractive and impressive. The recreation of the oval office and memorbalia of his time as president are interesting, as is the depiction of Jimmy's youth and path to the presidency. There are many references to other historical events and presidents, too.
The only criticism I have is that much of the display signage is printed in very low contrast, making it difficult to impossible for those with poor vision to read. Hopefully they will figure that out and correct it. Luckily the videos and most graphics do not have that characteristic.

Absolutely worth a visit for anyone interested in history and learning more about Carter's presidency and post-presidency life. It is quite remarkable how much he and his late wife have done over their lifetimes.
AC is very good, restrooms very clean; unsure about the food situation. Tons of school groups were there while we visited but it's spacious enough that this wasn't a bother. Expect to spend a few hours (say 3-5) if you wish to read it all.
Parking available on-site and free. UBER/Lyfts easy to come by as well - just target the pickup and dropoff by the traffic circle with the fifty US flags.

Visited here with family. I was surprised at how generally old, tired, shabby and dark the place was. VERY DATED; did not present as if it was being kept-up. I felt the place was in insult to President Carter. There were burned out lights inside some of, many of, the exhibit cases. Exhibits in cases were often TOOOOOO low to the floor - great height for a 5 year old to look at it, but less so for an adult and not for the elderly to have to bend way over to see it. The text font SIZE and the COLOR of a text ON the background color of the exhibit placard was very often TERRIBLE. Not, NOT, N O T, easy to read even with glasses. This presented as VERY POORLY DESIGNED inherently and specifically VERY POORLY designed for the median age of the visitors! I left feeling that this entire exhibit space should be trashed and re-designed new. I felt the Trustees and Management of this Presidential Library exhibit space should resign as a group, and should be ashamed at what they have allowed this exhibit space to become.

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum is an aesthetically impressive and well curated presidential museum, with a lot of exhibits. The center is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a rectangular pool situated right next to the entrance giving it a very nice look. The entry to the museum is $12, and starts off with a film displayed in a theater near the front desk area. After the short video presentation, you enter the exhibit area which contains a number of exhibits waving chronologically through his life. It starts from the birth of President Carter, follows his life in the US Navy, marriage to Rosalynn Carter, return to Georgia, tenure as the Governor of Georgia, run for the presidency and his tenure as the President of US. I found the exhibits well laid out and the accompanying explanations on most of them well thought out and articulated. It is easy to navigate through the museum, and they've done a good job of keeping the contents in the museum intriguing with lots of video displays and anecdotes from his life. I found the exhibits and videos regarding the Egypt - Israel peace negotiations at Camp David and the Tehran hostage crisis, very informative and explanatory. The museum also displays the Nobel Peace Prize that was awarded to Jimmy Carter and goes into detail about the humanitarian work done by President Carter and Rosalynn Carter post his presidential term.
A replica of the Oval Office is also a part of this museum, which adds a nice charm to this place. So is the small gift shop containing some magnets, t shirts and other Jimmy Carter related memorabilia. If you are someone who is a keen observer of politics or are generally into modern history of US, you will definitely enjoy a visit to this place.

Having met President and Mrs Carter on two occasions, we felt it would be a great idea to visit the museum dedicated to them.
The entry fee is not excessive - $12, $10 for seniors, military and children - and it is worth every cent.
There is a 15 minute introductory film, which briefly covers President Carter’s life, from his childhood in Plains, GA to his meeting Rosalynn, and their life together as governor of Georgia, his presidency and fifty years of humanitarian work after he was, in his words, "involuntarily retired".
The museum is self-guided, so you can take as much or as little time as you want. It spans their entire lives in great detail.
There is also an in-depth look at the humiliations that African-Americans had to endure, if they wanted to travel around the country, during the Jim Crow period, and the help that the Green Book provided for them.
All-in-all, the museum is excellent value for money, and it is a great place to spend a few hours.

This is a very well done presidential library, with great exhibits providing an overview of the life and work of President Carter, including his productive post-presidency. The room dedicated to examining documents was interesting, and there is cool traveling exhibition about the Green Book. If you're at all interested in history, this is well worth a couple hours of your time.

I know there were signs for bus/RV parking. I did not see it because it was in a different direction. I can say that we went first thing in the am and there were not a lot of people. Parking was a breeze

I've heard there is a cafeteria at this Museum. For lunch, is the food reasonably priced, and what kind of food do they serve?
เขียนเมื่อ 5 สิงหาคม 2019
There is a cafeteria which opens at noon, it has indoor and outdoor seating and is nice and airy. The food offered is written down on a blackboard and I believe it changes daily. When I was there they had roasted chicken, potatoes, gravy, rice and some vegetables. I think you pay a single price for the whole order. I didn't eat there (because there were no vegetarian options and didn't want to pay a full price for just the vegetables) so I'm not entirely sure of what the charge is -I vaguely remember it being something between 10-15 USD but don't hold me to it.

Staying by the airport. Best way to get to The Carter Presidential Library.

We stayed in Marietta and drove to the library in about 20 minutes. Of course, we waited until after the a.m. rush hour traffic to start but went by interstate. While Atlanta traffic can be unpredictable, we had no issues going to or coming from the library, which is well worth the visit. How inspiring to see the Carter's devotion to public service. There is a small gift shop on site, as well as a sit-down "home-cooked" lunch available. We highly recommend the Carter center.

What would the nearest public transport option from Downtown Atlanta be? I'm staying near the Peachtree Centre. The nearest train station looks quite far from the library. Are there any buses which stop here?
เขียนเมื่อ 4 กรกฎาคม 2018
According to the website, the nearest MARTA station is Inman Park and it's a 25 minute walk.
1.Follow the signs pointing to Inman Park to exit the MARTA station.
2. At street level, turn right and walk to the edge of the parking lot to reach a sidewalk marked “The PATH” (next to the fence)
3. Follow the PATH all to library/museum. The sidewalk winds through rolling hills, and crosses over three streets: Euclid Avenue, Lake Avenue and N. Highland Avenue.
4. After crossing N. Highland, keep right when the path splits. The museum is on top of the hill behind the trees.
Tip: Use Google Maps for additional help with walking directions.
Bus 16 travels to the Carter library and museum from downtown Atlanta and Lenox Square Mall (although the commute is much longer from the mall). Although you can board the bus outside the Five Points station, it is a better experience to wait for the bus next to the Peachtree Center complex along Peachtree Center Avenue or use the bus stop near the intersection of Auburn Avenue and Park Place next to Woodruff Park.
Tell the driver your destination if you aren’t sure which stop, or use Google Maps to get stop information and estimated time on the bus. The MARTA on the Go app also provides schedules and real-time map of the bus location.
Note that when departing from downtown to the museum, the bus travels on what looks to be an interstate ramp just before arriving at the building, which is a good time to signal for the bus to stop. For your return trip, you’ll have to wait for bus 16 on the opposite side of the Carter Center parking lot.

We are driving our own car, stayed last night on McDonough drive.
How much is parking at museum and should we drive ourselves or take a cab? How crazy is it to drive to downtown Atlanta?
