You will love this place, but moreover you will love the tours outside on the streets with the rangers. The murals on the buildings are awesome and educational and even more so when they are explained to you. This is a must-see for history buffs! I learned so much about the state and our country because New Bedford played a pivotal role during the mid-1800s with their whaling industry!

Great experience with numerous park and affiliated sites to visit. The visitor center has several unique artifacts from whaling ships, sailors, and the business. The park video is a good & engaging story about the history of whaling. The open air buildings are nicely preserved, giving you a feel for what the town was like in it's heyday. Several are not open to the public. Their are markers and signs outside most buildings. Note: Parking is limited, we ended up doing street parking. It may take some circling to find a close spot to the visitor center. For the best experience, we paired the free park visit with the whaling museum ($19 per adult).

Our tour guide for the walking tour of the Underground Railroad sites was wonderful! I learned so much! Also, great intro film and staff in the visitors center. Will definitely be back!

New Bedford Folk Festival held here every July for two days. The 25th Anniversary year is 2022. I have attended all but two of the festivals. There are seven outdoor venues and two air conditioned theaters. I have seen the best of Folk, Blues and Celtic music at the festivals. There is also a juried outdoor arts and craft area. The cobblestoned, gas-lit area is home to many great restaurants and is adjacent to a working waterfront.

Good to see the national park in action and doing well. The employees were friendly and competent. The movie is worth the time as is a visit to the Seamen's Bethel, and the Rotch House up the hill. A nice walk to get a sense of the town and to work off the calories.

I should add, my Westport neighbor Captain Paul Cuffee, born on Cuttyhunk Island to his freed slave father, has a garden dedicated to him here. He ran a store in the corner brick building, attached to the museum, and he built ships, including one he took African-Americans to help found Sierra Leone. He was a devout Quaker, built the original Westport Friend Meeting house, still in use; and he began the first multi racial school, including the Wolf Hill school in Westport I think (could be wrong, 'cause I know one of his small schools burn down, maybe two).

Enjoyed and appreciated the historic buildings and the signage was so interesting. The cobblestone streets were well preserved and kept you on course. It was a perfect fall day and an enjoyable walk through the park. The sculptures were diverse and interesting. Recommend for historical buffs.

Great place to visit and learn the Massachusetts whaling history era and about New Bedford’s great Involvement in whaling history. Visit and see actual buildings used during the times of whaling, walk on cobble stone streets, listen to the stories and history of a time past, most for free or a donation.

We went here expecting to have an overview of the American whaling industry and we found so much more. Very nice art related to the sea and whaling (especially the Dutch involvement in whaling). This is like a combination of natural history, industrial development, cultural interaction and world travel, and other aspects all rolled into one tidy package. A definite return destination. The area around has been restored, and the cobbled streets are cool.

This is the place to begin your visit to New Bedford and its whaling history. Watch the film, enjoy the exhibits, and then wander the historic area with its cobblestones and wonderful architecture. It's like taking a trip back in time!
