A must do.
I have done this tour twice and it still amazed me the second time. Steve is a very knowledgeable local. He is very friendly and accommodating (specially to people with very low fitness level). The walk is very enjoyable. The moss covered area was magical. You have to find the kiwi ;-)
Steve provides a lovely picnic by the flames. The pancakes are light and fluffy, yet creamy. I had to ask for the recipe.
I recommend a good sturdy shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Or a comfortable gumboots.

I never took this tour. But feel I should recommend it after visiting the flames personally! It is just stunning to come across this natural phenomenon in the middle of the woods. Plus the friendly black Robin who patrols it and take titbits from your hand was a joy! Highly recommended!

We totally enjoyed this unique and interesting half day tour.
Only small touring party 4-8, driven through a privately managed deer farm, to the start of our walk through the beech rain forest.
Walk was relatively flat but you had to be a little careful due to some true roots, moss and occasionally slippery track.
At the end of the walk is a small clearing where the natural gas has been seeping through the earth for a 100 years and burns a small fire.
Steve our guide is wonderful, informative and prepares us some snacks as we enjoy watching the flames emerging from the earth.
On our trip their where a couple kids who just loved it. There is also quite a bit of bird life and Steve shows us some of the flora and the edible pepper leaf.
About 4 hours all up.

A great trip with interesting history and the “eternal” flames. the billy tea and pancakes were great and the forest beautiful.

Phenomenal day! We spent the day Steve!. His knowledge and passion for this region are unsurpassed. The trip from beginning to end is fabulous.
The walk in is stunning and very special and reaching the Natural Flames is mind blowing. It is the weirdest experience to see these flames burning in the middle of a lush forest.
The pancakes and billy tea were scrumptious.
Such a natural and precious experience. Thanks Steve we had a brilliatn day.

If you are in the Murchison area and have a few hours to spare, treat yourself to a tramp to the Natural Flames with guide Steve. Despite the day starting out very rainy, Steve took us to the beginning of the walk in his trusty Landrover and regaled us with stories about the bush and the flora and fauna we saw on the way. He even managed to cook us the promised (and delicious) pancakes, despite the downpour. You helped us through some of the trickier sections of the track and were a delight to be with, so thanks and and remember, Steve, FOTB!

I highly recommend this tour. Steve was a great host. The tour involves a walk through Beech forest and Steve is very knowledgeable about the forest and fauna.
Seeing the flames was very special and the hotcakes, tea, and hot chocolate topped it off nicely.
Steve is also very knowledgeable about the history in the area and about the exploration for oil and gas in the valley. Having worked in the industry 25 years ago, it was very special to see an old drill bit in his truck.

This is a must do. We had an amazing day. A lovely walk through the bush with Steve providing just the right amount of fascinating information and stories along the way. He was brilliant. Guide extraordinaire. The flames themselves were amazing. And we also need to mention Robyn's organisation and communication when we booked. Highly recommend.

A great excuse to get the family on a bush walk! A great flora and fauna guide as well as the amazing flames at the end. Great guide with excellent pancake cooking skills and a lovely cup of tea.
Highly recommend checking this out and learning more about the area both historically and naturally.

Wondering how long and difficult the walk is. We have a 94 year old uncle that would LOVE to do this tour

Sorry, I’ve only just seen this question. It depends how mobile your uncle is. The track is a bit rough in parts. He would need walking poles and you’d need to take it slowly.
