Nice for veterans plenty of benches to sit on beautiful overlooks of the bay. One drawback is you’re supposed to be a resident of the town to use.

This review only concerns Teddy Roosevelt Beach and Park. The past few years I moved to Syosset and thus became a Town resident again. Many years ago I lived for a few years with my mom in O. Bay at Top of the Harbor, in my later college days, and would often walk or drive down to the park to hang out, listen to music, read, or visit with my girlfriend at the time. Over the past ten years I've been here again quite often, including several times the past few weeks, (6/14/24) and though the park and beach are still the same thing as back in 1988 or 1990 or whatever, some things have deteriorated. I dunno why they are not letting non town residents use the park, or pay to use it and park here, (though you can always park free in the outside LIRR lots which are newly renovated, and avoid the parking fees), but that is disturbing since the local govt. board seems to love to shoot themselves in the foot and scare away visitors, and revenue. But as a
town resident, that doesn't affect me. But the LIRR goes right here from NYC for various reasons, and one plus is the train is literally right at the beach and park and marina.
My main complaint these days is that there are zero amenities here now. Yes, the restrooms are open in the season at least, although they were still shuttered a month ago which made zero sense. Normally they are always open year-round. Or used to be. There is no longer ANY summer food concessions hall which was a feature many years ago. Covid did mess a lot of things up. They pulled any and all water fountains out of the park, there is one tiny shower for beachgoers still, as years ago, and the beach and boat launch are the same. I saw some small coffee truck parked at the park the past few visits, which is fine, but it's not full concessions, and, they also pulled any soda/water machines out of the park several years ago now This is NOT acceptable! Even Cedar Creek Park in Seaford which I frequent again, features tons of restrooms and a few water fountains. (albeit no food) A lot of older people use the O Bay Park and Beach, and there needs to be some available water fountains
or machines or both again here. This needs to happen ASAP. There's no excuse for this, and COVID is not an emergency crisis anymore.
The park grounds are about the same as they were back in 1989 or 1990 or so,
which is fine. It has a small playground but it was a bit larger decades ago for kids.
They did enlarge tennis, basketball and football field facilities years ago, so that's good. Also, no water or amenities available there whatsoever. I usually just do my walking around the park, exercise, and then sit for hours at a bench at the water and listen to my fab. rock music on my headphones. Nothing has changed with that!
LOL Anyway, I still love the park and beach, but we need some amenities back here
fast, and water is the chief one. Not everybody wants to lug heavy bottles of water around for an hour or two max. in a small park. It's ridiculous. The restrooms
are about the same as ever, dank, dark, and gloomy, but at least there's soap, and
everything works right. Some water fountains and more showers, and soda machines
(like the fantastic ones at Tanger Deer Park Outlets!) would be great. Not many
people were here today (6/14/24), and I fear the snobby admissions policy is
one big reason why, it wasn't the weather, which was warm and humid.
You figure it out. I can't. Oyster Bay has a lot of closed businesses, it's in decline,,
and they need all the revenue and tourism they can get. I was also at Eisenhower Park two years ago and that park lacked any amenities as well, also totally inexcusable. (Scott B. Syosset NY)

I was just passing through the area, but I stopped for about an hour to take a stroll on a beautiful September evening. You have to be an Oyster Bay resident to enter but there was nobody at the entrance when I was there, so I got in. Very clean and peaceful with nice views of the bay.

We were in Long Island, NY visiting family and wanted to spend an afternoon in this park but surprisingly the town supervisor has declared that the beach is exclusive to Oyster Bay residents. Since it js funded by the state, it is clearly wrong and likely would hold a challenge in the court, but it clearly ruined our day. Do not visit if you are not an Oyster Bay resident.

Six stars! I have only four presidential gravesites left to visit and this has been on my list for over 20 years. It was worth the wait and it was by far my favorite. YOU NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!!!! I got the last one of the day, and despite three no shows, they are not allowed to fill with walk-ins. Make sure you are aware of this.
The house is totally TR's taste with animal heads, animal rugs and furniture made from hunting trophies. It's a haul getting there as NYC traffic is brutal but I'd recommend this. It takes an hour and I got to sit on a rocking chair on the front porch overlooking the town while I waited. Where else do you get that experience. I loved this tour, I hope that is plain enough.

RESIDENTS ONLY. When covid first hit I read Oyster Bay had gone resident only but since it is not posted anywhere we seemed tourist info, we made the effort to come only to be turned away. I grew up going to spending my summers fishing & splashing in this beach. I was hoping to share a part of my childhood with my children. This was INCREDIBLY disappointing, especially considering that we are here for couple of days having driven from North Carolina. We would've gladly paid for the experience but it's clearly not an option. Way to lose tourist income Oyster Bay

Can’t review the actual park because only residents are allowed in. Seems bizarre for a place that obviously courts tourism, but we took the train all the way from Manhattan only to be turned away. The residents-only policy really kind of ruined a whole trip that my girlfriend and I planned. I would have certainly not have spent the time, money, and effort to get there had I known it would be so unwelcoming, elitist, and downright unfriendly. I assure you, I will never visit Oyster Bay again.

We were met at the gate and told we could not enter the park because we were not residents of Oyster Bay... we were pretty disappointed as there was no warning to this rule and we would have chosen another, more welcoming, town to visit had we known.

The Teddy Roosevelt Park is a waterfront park with walking trails and a playground. It’s a beautiful spot to take a walk and enjoy a sunny day.

We checked out the memorial (pretty quickly) and wandered to the bay and stared at the boats and water. It was lovely. Kids can play in the park. There’s grass and fields.

Hello,
I'm a little confused. There's a sign that says no dogs allowed, but dogs have been seen walking around. Is there a seasonal or time restriction?
Thank you.

Is there a fee to get into the park
เขียนเมื่อ 25 มิถุนายน 2020
There is no fee to get into the park, but there is a fee to take a tour of the teddy Roosevelt house. It’s a nominal fee and the tour is very interesting, especially if you like history.

Yes. When we visited they were clean and easily accessible.

It looks like I can get there by using the Long Island Transit. Is that correct? Also, where is the best place from Queens to take it. I will be getting ito Queens from Manhattan initially. Thank you for an answer!

We took so many pictures and no one ever said we needed a permit. We even sat and enjoyed ourselves on the porch without anyone asking us to leave. It was an enjoyable time. Have fun!!

I live in Queens, but in the 70's 80's 2000's I came here with my family. We love the park and never had to pay to get in. I here that there's a fee now. How much is it?
เขียนเมื่อ 9 สิงหาคม 2017
I was just there a few weeks ago and to my knowledge there is no fee!
เขียนเมื่อ 24 สิงหาคม 2017
I'm not sure, but I can't see why not....Of course, the house and museum would not be canine friendly.
But you can always call the property....but I am sure that we saw dogs walking in the park.

Is it open today and is there a cafeteria or restaurant on the premises
เขียนเมื่อ 11 เมษายน 2017
Nothing on the premises but a few vending machines, but you can bring a lunch and eat on picnic benches there.
