Brilliant Holiday

I have to thank Terry and Valerie and the whole team of TVR for another spectacular visit.
This is my 3rd visit to this fantastic holiday ranch.
The horse riding is brilliant, that's why I come.
The food at the restaurant is divine, they always cater to my dietary requirements.
The sun sets are spectacular.
Very sad to leave after being here for 9 days.
Thank you TVR and hope to see you again soon.
All my love to you.

Afgelegen en rustig mooi gebied tussen de Saguaros en andere cactussen om te overnachten en eventueel een ritje te paard te doen. Ontbijt was zeer boven verwachting alleen bij diner maar 1 keuze voor vegetariërs en dat viel erg tegen, daar zouden ze (de kok) nog weleens wat meer op mogen ondernemen. Onze kamer was redelijk klein weinig ruimte voor de koffers mede door grote leunstoel en bankje wel een mooie open haard in de hoek vd kamer. Leuk gesprek gehad bij de bioloog die daar was en gesproken over de slangen en andere dieren die daar in het gebied leven. Ritje gedaan door het gebied te paard en dat is bijzonder dat bv door een rivierbedding rijdt.

For the amount of money we paid here we thought we'd get some decent horses but on a couple occasions we got horses with "issues" we are told they don't like other horses and have to stay at least 5 feet away from other horses at all times and go last in line. I asked if I could have a different horse and they said no. Even after I got up and became more nervous and told her again I really did not feel comfortable with a horse with issues she would not let me switch. There were lots of other horses in the corral. I did not want to get bucked off if we ended up too close to another horse and do not feel I have the training or experience to handle a situation like this. I understand these are animals but I would prefer one that does not require a disclosure statement before riding. They must be aware that many guests are not experts at riding. Why could a solution not be found?

Additionally, the waterfall in the pool becomes dangerous when kids jump through. A boy jumped through and landed on my daughter who was swimming causing her to have immediate swelling to her eye and changed colors. We had to quickly seek medical care out of state. This was a very scary experience as we did not know where to go and couldn't even locate a first aid kit at the pool. We notified employees inside but they did not help. This could have ended even worse with someone being knocked unconscious when swimming under water.

The most frustrating part of my concerns are that I repeatedly contacted Tanque Verde regarding the incidents and they would not respond to my concerns. Very disappointed with the lack of care they have for their guests.

We were looking for a day trip and drove out to look at the grounds. It’s a quaint location with a panoramic view. We loved the site - just what you would expect for a dude ranch in the Arizona desert hills. The front desk staff couldn’t be friendlier. Unfortunately we arrived in between meal seatings, so couldn’t get lunch, but we were offered coffee and places to comfortably wait. All their activities and meals are open to the public.

Their new barn venue should be amazing. Hopefully, it will result in added revenue which could be used for updates to those areas needing attention.

I see very mixed reviews on this site, so I hesitate to give this a full endorsement, but we had a nice experience.

Amazing views and time here!

We were here for a large group dinner. The setup was beyond our expectations and amazing. There were fun activities and the food was delicious with many different options and variety.

Magical experience

What a wonderful place. We stayed one night but it was perfect! My daughter got to paint a real horse, took lessons on how to ride and we all went on a ride to the homestead. Gorgeous spacious room as well as delicious food. Everything was great!

Sunday Brunch - still the best buy in Arizona

The Sunday buffet brunch was, is and always will be one of the best buys in Arizona. There are resorts in Tucson that charge 5 and 6 times what the Tanque Verde does with 1/2 the selection and quality. The location is lovely, enjoy the eastern portion of Saguaro national monument. Only thing is the road out needs repair.

This was our second visit ant it didn't disappoint

We first visited in 2008 with our family they are well organised and lay on a great program for the kids with some coordinated activities for the parents to join in. The riding lessons help you to get to grips with western style riding and to progress to attain a loping pass, which is worth it for the extended rides into the desert.
other activities include desert walks and mountain bike riding. plus talks on the fauna and flora to improve your education. If you go fully catered the meals are of excellent quality, you will put on a few pounds.

First stay in guest ranch : perfect !

For a first family trip in the West, we wanted to stay in a guest ranch and experience western riding in USA (we are western riding beginners in France). The stay was perfect : the landscape is beautiful, the horses are great and well educated and all the familly really enjoyed the days at the ranch. Really a great first experience that we would like to reproduce. Tanque Verde Ranch became our reference for guest ranch !

Unique for family vacation

My wife and I are plant nuts and wanted to stay close to the Saguaro Nat. Park. Having never been to a dude ranch we decided to give this place a try. We stayed 2 nights which was about enough for us. The Saturday cowboy cookout was fun. The food was good and they had a guitarist who took requests for cowboy/country songs. He had a great voice and sang nonstop for 2hrs while we ate, and danced.
The Sunday AM breakfast ride was the highlight for us because of the amazing scenery.
Caveats: if you don’t like kids, you probably don’t want to go here for spring break. If you don’t ride horses or don’t like to walk around and look at nature, you will probably get bored after a few hours. For us, it was a good experience but we probably won’t go back for a second visit.
