Felt like family

Started our weekend in Luray with a stop here at River Hill. So glad we did! We felt like family, greeted and welcomed warmly. If you aren’t into fruit wines, don’t come for the wine, but it was delicious! We bought a bottle of the strawberry to go; it made a great dessert later in the weekend. The whiskey, bourbon, and more (!) were wonderful, and this coming from someone who normally doesn’t like hard liquor. Thanks, Fred, for convincing me the good stuff doesn’t have to burn! :)

Unique and Interesting Spirits

River Hill Wine and Spirits provides a unique opportunity to experience and learn about their distillery and products. The owner is extremely friendly and will talk you you through a flight of samples including corn whiskey and moonshine among others. I highly recommend others visit the distillery and experience the products offered there. It was an entertaining and worthwhile experience.

Call first. After a half hour drive over the mountain found them closed on a Friday at 11. Sign on door said will be back at 1 Call before you drive to verify the posted hours.

Thoroughly enjoyed tasting their bourbon, it’s well balanced and very smooth. Likewise one can say the same for their corn distilled spirits. Their fruit wines have good taste and balance.

Gracious heritage

Fred , Amy and even Grandma are great host! Love Ed the true heritage. First you start out with the wine tasting with Amy. All delicious fruit homemade wines! Bought a bottle of the mixed fruit wine. Opened it up when we got back to our Airbnb and went well with the fudge we picked up and the cheese and crackers we had. Then the tasting of whiskey with Fred. Loved the history of making it. A little strong for me but definitely! not for my husband. He bought the bourbon whiskey which he loved. Beautiful country setting. America is built on the backs of families like this!! Support your local communities🇺🇸🇺🇸🍷🍷. How can we forget grandma as we really got a kick out of her and to know she worked while in college taking a ferry years ago to work back in Long Island! Too close to home. Worth the visit!!Thank you

Down home charm and whiskey!

You have to drive through a neighborhood that turns into a farm to get to River Hill, but it is well worth tracking down. It is a pretty small operation as distilleries go, but the owners are really down to earth and enthusiastic. Pop is happy to give a tour of the unassuming place: there is the tap room, and the small room behind it is the distillery. "This is my vat, those over there are my barrels." The bourbon and corn whiskey he makes are all worth picking up. If they aren't the best you've had, you will appreciate the taste of down home honesty.

My wife was happy to chat with Mom and sample the fruity wines they sell (yes, including Sweet Potato.) I find those type of wines good for desserts or pancakes, but my wife likes the occasional spritzer. They were out of one that my wife selected, but she got a kick out of watching Pop decant her bottle directly from a barrel, and he let her label it and put the seal over the cork.

The property itself is pretty large, and they do a number of other things aside from the distillery. You can buy meat at the counter with your wine, and they also board horses and I understand they have a shooting range. This is a place you want to visit just so you can recognize it when some author inevitably includes it as a setting in a novel.

Fred and Amy are very gracious hosts. My husband and I started our visit with a wine tasting that Amy presented. We aren’t usually fans of fruit wines but these were really good and not too sweet. Loved the cherry wine so much we bought a bottle. Then Fred came out and gave us a tour of the distillery and explained the process which was really interesting. During the tasting we got to try the corn whiskey and both of the bourbons along with Fred’s version of apple pie, corn whiskey, cider and cinnamon. Delicious! We ended up leaving with whiskey and wine. Definitely will visit their beautiful property again.

Stopped here an a friends recommendation. Wines were light n fruity. Not a bourbon drinker but you need to try all the samples. Great tour of the facility

We stopped here on our visit to Luray and I’m so glad we did. The owner gave us a personal tour of how he makes his whiskey/bourbon. The tasting was delicious and the wines were great as well. What made the tour even better was how excited the owner was to show us around the building. You could tell they take pride in the making of their wine & whiskey.
