This year's trout fishing started on 30 Dec 2022. You can go there via day tour (Klook) which includes open-air ice fishing or via public transport. The ticket for the day tour includes open air fishing (according to their website, foreigners who wish to book the tent fishing have to call them via phone).
We didn't manage to catch any fish, but like other reviews, a kind hearted local who managed to catch many fish gave them to the children who didn't manage to catch anything. There is no foreigner fishing area as far as I know.
There is a pool whereby participants can take part in the competition where they jumped into the area and tried to catch trout. There is also an indoor area for children to fish.
There are no English instructions on how to get your fish grilled, so you have to ask around or figure out where to go (2nd floor of blue building), and what to do.
(For those who wants to grill your fish, you will have to go to the 2nd floor of the blue building where there is an open area. Enter the room behind the open area.
First join the long queue with the 2 small square windows to pay 4000 KRW to grill your fish, then join the 2nd long queue for the big window to pass your grill ticket and fish to the ladies inside to prepare and wrap into an alumni foil, before passing it to the grilling station (the longish "oven" outside which uses chopped wood) to grill for 15 min (you have to track the time yourself)).
Definitely an eye opener and pretty fun! But do note that the return trip by coach will take 3-4 hours due to peak hour traffic.

The event was delayed for a week due to the warm winter and we were lucky to be able to get the ice fishing admission ticket as they limit visitor entries. Ice fishing was fun but it's almost impossible to get any fish if you get the cheap equipments. 1 of the really nice local gave us some fish so we didn't go back empty handed. There were also some winter activities such as snow tubing but some of them are unavailable. You will have to walk on snow and ice and it can get quite slippery so get a good footwear if you are planning a visit there. There are long queues at the food area where they prepare your catch. Overall its a good experience if you haven't been to such activity before.

之前到平昌只是滑雪和看過冬奧，這次就過來參加鱒魚節。場內佈置了很多有趣生動的冰雕和雪製展品，也有很多遊客砌成的可愛雪人。活動豐富，有冰上垂釣、雪橇﹑溜冰、冰上碰碰車等

Was an eye opener. Although we did not try the ice fishing, we did the indoor fishing for kids. It was good fun and many kids managed to catch. Those who do not can turn in their rods for a live fish. You can then have them to sack the fish (for 3000 won) and bbq on the spot.
There is also a food court selling trout related delicacies if you don’t wish to get your hands dirty. There is also live singing at certain time and at the same area there are pop up stores selling some local delicacies, such as bean curd skin, fried trout nuggets etc. one store selling fried prawns surprised us by charging us 20000 won for a small bowl of fried prawns (ard 10 prawns). Maybe prawns are expensive in Korea, but it definitely felt like a rip off!
There were a lot of rides at the festival other than the ice fishing which was fun for the kids, but need to get tickets and the queue can be quite long at times.
Free shuttles from alpensia, Yong pyong and Olympic Station.
It was good fun and you can spend the whole day there.

I was working with some Olympics clients and we took them to the trout festival as an activity and they thought it was unique but not a ton of fishing was there so it was a little underwhelming. The atmosphere was very open and spacious but it needed some more spectacle. Especially since it was so cold out. The raw trout you can get there is really good though and we we to a nearby restaurant to enjoy more. The trout bibimbap and soup is a great combination. Take plenty of hand warmers though or it can get uncomfortable.

Most day trip to this place were only available for booking from Jan 2019 but we were lucky to find one (Trazy) that was opened for booking in Dec. For people who are adamant to join this activity, visiting in Jan would be a better bet.
It took about 3 hours from Seoul.
There were 2 sections for ice fishing. One area was for open-fishing while another area came with the ready tents and chairs. We opted for the latter. There were rows and rows of tents in various colours lined up on the frozen river. You could choose your desired tent which would already have 2 holes and chairs. You could change tent as and when you want to. The frozen river was lined with some net to avoid falling but it could still be rather slippery. We brought along crampons and hence it came into handy, and we could walked around the frozen river with ease.
There were shops thatwere selling various things required for activities such as fishing, sledding, etc. You could get almost everything you need from there.
There were rules such as regardless of how fishes you might catch, you could only bring out max of 2 fishes only. We saw people who managed to catch the fishes but I could only tell you it was not an easy task. We came out empty handed!! But the experience was still fun and worth it!
You could choose to pay for the fish to be cleaned and grilled for consumption if you catch one in one restuarant. We caught none but we could still visit another restuarant to taste one. We ordered a grilled trout and it was absolutely tasty!! Many patrons were enjoying sashimi in the restuarant too.
We didn't have time to try other activities such as sledding (I think you need to bring your own sled or buy one from the shop), ice cycling, etc.
Everyone definitely should try this experience once in your lifetime. :))))

any taxi available from pyeonchang trout festival to alpensia ski resort? how to call taxi fr festival venue? must walk to jinbu bus terminal to get cab?

How do we travel from Alpensia ski resort to pyeongchang trout? Is there any shuttle bus services(round trip), and we do not need package that include fishing. Thanks
