What a wonderful experience! It was a wonderfully organized trip with beautiful places and swimming spots, great hikes, and fascinating lectures on the region and history we learned from our competent, and friendly leader Alexander with great sense of humor. When you are in crete dont miss the chance to take this trip.

We decided to take the private tour of the mountains. This is the 3rd tour I have done with Go Crete Safari and was by far the best. Each one is slightly different. We hired a private tour as there were 4 of us and we went in a beautiful luxurious private jeep, our guide was Alex and he was an amazing host and guide. We learnt so much about Crete and it’s culture. We will be talking about this for a long time it was fabulous

Une journée au top : un guide vraiment super n, accueillant dans un français impeccable, des informations variées (histoires, traditions, présent de l'île, habitudes de vie ...), une ambiance plus que sympa, des paysages à couper le souffle, des découvertes. Bref, aucune hésitations pour cette excursion (même si cela reste touristique, c'est du très très bon touristique). Bravo

Zacharius was such a good driver and guide, he was really funny, spoke really good English, taught us some Greek and was incredibly passionate and informative all day. We really really enjoyed our safari with him.

Traducteur débutant mais soucieux de bien faire et malgré très à la hauteur
Lieux magnifiques que nous n'aurions certainement pas pris le temps de découvrir par nous même comme la monastère.

Best guide ever met in any adventure! Even better for teenage youth in the group
The tour was fantastic visiting the Roman tomb with raki shop, stopping at Agiofarago beach and going for a dip in the freezing water but beautiful beach without any doubts is worth the trip and to our guide gave us the best Safari off road ride, which the teens were talking about hours into finishing the tour.
Visited the Matala hippies village.
But guys a big big shout out to Alex our guide. Knowledgeable knowing the history and day to day affairs of the Crete, funny, always full of attentions for us…. He made everything special during the way and back. Thank you man and see you soon,

Our second Jafari of our holiday as one wasn't enough. This time we had the great fortune of having Andreas again with us to guide us through, and after some traffic troubles at Heraklion the tour begun as the town gave way to some absolutely beautiful views. It's a tour like this that benefits from a brilliant host, like our daddy cool, who immediately stopped on one of the roads out in order to point out some of the beauty you couldn't find anywhere else, and could miss by yourself.
From the face of Zeus onwards the tour takes you through Crete's beautiful scenery and up into the remote parts of Crete that are true, old, Cretan villages, each with their own beautiful aspect that's difficult to see if you stay in your hotel room all trip. Odigitria monastery is beautiful, well-kept, and respectfully kept too. There's no pushy purchase, tour ropes, fixed picture opportunities - just beautiful nature and differential respect for both tourist and local. Even the monks looked happy to see people around, and weren't too bothered by our presence. The shop there is a nice chance to stock up on something truly amazing, and the best Rakomelo I could find on the island - but is only the first part of the tour we stopped at.

Although we'd booked this roughly towards the end of the tourist season, and never having been on a "Jafari" before, I had no clue what to expect, but as it turns out this has been one of the best touring experiences I've had in my life; and I'm eternally thankful for such an amazing host and such an amazing experience.
Our host, Andreas, one of the loveliest people on the entire Island, picked us up from our hotel in the morning, and what ensues was an experience you couldn't get by yourself in Crete unless you rented a car, knew about every back road, had a deep historical and cultural understanding of Crete, had an amazing set of driving, charismatic and informational skills and had pretty much lived on the Island your entirely life.
"Daddy cool" was an amazing host, always happy to answer questions, and would frequently stop to point out beautiful aspects of Crete that a self-touring tourist would never notice. He picked wild fruit and gave us a taste of the freshest produce you'll ever get, wasn't disingenuous or saccharinely sweet with his performance, and was always there to help us as needed. The man deserves a promotion, that's for sure.
As for the tour itself - you really appreciate the beauty of Crete when you're sitting on the mountain tops, driving through the beautiful swathes of terrain and rolling hills, watching a gradual change as the terrain changes further inland - and then to reach the caves of Zeus and look over the plateau is a genuinely breathtaking sight - the cradle of an ancient civilisation that hasn't been whored out with too many gift shops. From the goat herding to the cheese and olive oil tasting, nothing felt overly exploitative, the guides kept more order than the airport, and nothing felt non-optional, though those with week stomachs or an affinity for the Raki at every ever stop should ask for the front seat, as the Cretan' massage is one hell of a massage.
If you have only a week on the island, this is a definite must-do in order to see how beautiful the land and people are. I cannot overstate that enough.
