This afternoon on a visit to Gallipoli I passed this underground and entered, given the low cost of admission (two euros). The place is full of charm and charm; it consists of a rather realistic reproduction of an ancient oil mill (in Gallipoli there are also others) that produced oil for export all over Europe. The girl at the checkout starts on request an audio guide that spreads loudly throughout the hypogeum. Too bad it is only in English, French, German or Spanish but not in Italian. The girl, very kind, came out of the building to show me where the cathedral was.

Don‘t miss when in Gallipoli. A few steps underground you reach a place where for many years people performed a difficult task to extract olive oil for burning under really difficult and unhealthy conditions that today would be unimaginable. Best way to sit there and listen to audio description while looking around and imagining how it really was. A nice piece of history.

Worth visiting if you are in Gallipoli. The visit only lasts 15 to 20 minutes and there is an information card to explain the exhibits. Small entrance off the side street leads down to the underground room/cave.

The underground oil mill of Palazzo Granafei in Gallipoli is a must-see during the city tour
The visit is organized very well and there is the possibility to enjoy audio in different languages. It is an authentic place that revives the splendor of the city's past. Good.

Absolutely to avoid.
I had entered the building to get a brochure and try to figure out where I was, and I was told (text): " You can't take the brochure, they're for guests." In addition to my representations, I was told: "She came in without even saying goodbye." I was really incredulous... what about Salento hospitality?
I state that I am the kind of person who greets anyone, even complete strangers...
It hurt to see this kind of attitude, strongly shrill with Apulian hospitality (I am from Taranto).
Keep your brochures, but leave your jobs to more worthy people, perhaps younger.

Historic olive oil mill that used to produced olive oil in harsh conditions to burn in lamps. Very well preserved site and well explained. In August, it opens until 10 pm, which is a blessing given the heat level earlier in the day.

For me, this was one of the most interesting cultural sites in Gallipoli. Under a palazzo is one of the many oil mills that used to be there; the area is rich in olives and had enough workers; second and third choice oil was pressed here and delivered to all of Europe as lamp oil. The working conditions were terrible, the workers didn't get any smell from the cellars for weeks and months, so they were almost cellar blind, small multilingual brochure, the lady at the entrance belongs to an association that looks after the mills on a voluntary basis.

A nice little attraction. The explanations of the history are offered in several languages, including German. It's really great and interesting to hear the history of the oil mills summarized in just a few minutes.

Unexpected. The small entrance on the main street does not make you imagine the wonder that lies beneath. We were intrigued by the images on the screen. And we got off.

There was also the guide who told us about the functioning and the life of the people who lived there and worked to produce lampante oil.

On a night trip to Gallipoli we included the visit to this interesting place. It definitely worth yhe the visit. We went to this underground olive press mill to discover its history. They talked about the history and all the info about it. Cheap 2 euros ticket, nice experience.
