It’s an okay walk round the lake just to get the steps in, if you have done it once really no need to go back, part of the area feels neglected.

Lovely lake to sit by and have a picnic, just to chill out or give crabbing a try.
We tried crabbing for the first time and was successful. The shop sell a little crabbing kit which was useful and good value.
Only downside was the amount of seagulls constantly trying to nick our picnic!

This is a pleasant enough lake to walk around. The miniature railway is a must, as is a visit to the nearby harbour. The most popular activity seems to be crabbing, and the full kit can be purchased from the train station.

No booking required. We came on a sunday morning to go ride a steam train but my kids were too scared of the noise so we didn't go on it. They do have diesel trains running on other days.
Bring a chair. We did. It was lovely sitting by the lake. My in laws watched me, and their grandchildren crabbing. You can buy everything you need for crabbing there. We bought 2 packs and it cost £14. We caught loads of crabs. It was great fun. Make sure you tie the bait bag on tight or it will fly off like ours did lol.
The lake we didn't walk around it but I would love to come back and do this walk.
Parking was free. A good amount of space to park too.

FRee parking , lovely walk around the lake,crabbing and the train journey was really good , reasonably priced

We visited while on holiday at a local caravan park. Just a short 5min car journey from Kinmel Bay, this is a lovely space to bring a young family looking for things to entertain the kids. We had a ride on the miniature steam train first. No pre-booking required. We queued for the tickets and bought a crabbing kit while we were there (Bucket, crab line, net and bacon for bait). My kids (9 and 7) both loved the train. There was a mix of closed and open carriages. We opted for open as the weather was lovely. It was about 10mins to go round the lake, and was very pleasant. There’s a very small museum inside the station.
There were lots of families crabbing, and plenty of crabs to go round! There was a small play park outside the station for the kids to play in. Overall a very nice way to spend a morning or afternoon, but i wouldn’t say it was a ‘whole day’ place.

the train, the lake, the atmosphere are great! the sculptures and benches give you a place to rest eat and a photo opportunity the cleanliness is good a real chill out place to enjoy for kids and adults

We found this hidden gem on the way back from a few days in Towyn. We had not found time to do any crabbing prior as had a busy schedule while away. I did a google search on our last night and saw this. We got there and decided to give it ago and were so pleased we did.
The lake is a fabulous walk around and is totally on the flat so would suit all needs. The little island in the middle of the lake had a group of cormorants on it’s banks which was lovely to see.
There are a couple of jetty’s where you can crab and in 40 minutes we caught 21. Not bad at all. Please give this lake a visit if you’re passing. It’s lovely.

We discovered this by accident after never venturing down this part of Rhyl before. Lots of families crabbing... we will bring our stuff next time! We enjoyed a trip on the train and a look around at the museum. Nice play area. Well worth a visit.

Do u have to be staying at marine holiday park to use the fishing lake thanks

Marine Lake is not at the caravan park. It’s at the bottom of Wellington Road, just past Aldi. Kids go crabbing there but I doubt if there are any fish in there.

Yes! It gets a bit bumpy in some places but you should be fine :)
