By far the best local museum we've visited, based on the life and times of the original family living in the house, but covering local agriculture, commerce, schooling and much else. There's even a model railway and plenty to entertain the kids. The staff were most helpful, and like Doctor Who's TARDIS, there's much more to it than appears from a first impression.

What a fabulous place
I’ve lived local to Hornsea for 20 years and today was my first visit to the Museum
And it is fabulous
Very interesting for all ages including little ones
Lovely staff too and all Volunteers
Well worth a visit 😍

We enjoyed seeing the old photos and the rooms set up to show life in the past and local history. Hornsea pottery museum is on site too. It has a small shop and toilets but no cafe. Run by volunteers. Well worth a visit. Thank you.

Excellent museum, with a variety of rooms and exhibits covering a range of interests to include an old farmhouse, dairy, blacksmith, farm implements but also Doctor’s consulting room, model railway and railwayana, schoolroom, and Hornsea pottery exhibition.
Mostly easily accessible to those with limited mobility, and there is a council car park just a couple of minutes’ walk away. No cafe but plenty nearby. Run by friendly vokunteers and well worth the entry fee and time spent( up to two hours).

We always visit the museum when we visit Hornsea and even though we have seen all the exhibits several times there is something so welcoming and interesting in this collection of old farm buildings and its quiet little grassy courtyard. We are interested in Hornsea Pottery, and there is a good collection. The furnished Victorian parlour and kitchen are very nostalgic, and there is good use of sound effects such as the noises of the smithy and a description of the items in the kitchen. If the weather is bad it is a great place to while away an afternoon, and if sunny, enjoy the outside displays such as the barn and the Anderson shelter. Run by volunteers - do go and support them.

Walk past on a day to Hornsea (from Filey) and what a lovely and amazing museum. Full of interesting historical rooms and artefacts but also the history, people, crafts and trades of Hornsea. Lots of rooms in the house of what it was like over the past 150+ years. Along with WWI and WWII. And then the crafts and trades. And a classroom of years ago (reminded me of mine !!!). Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely museum. Well thought and spaced out. Nice childrens area. Fascinating history of local family. Exhaustive collection of memorabilia. Volunteers friendly. Well worth a visit especially if like us, you are of a certain age!

Lovely couple of hours spent exploring this hidden gem. Lots to see, and some fascinating nuggets of local history to discover. If you like ceramics, the Hornsea Pottery display is a must.

Hornsea Museum is the home to Hornsea Pottery Museum. As the Curating Historian of a similar pottery in South Derbyshire, Hornsea Pottery was high on my list to visit as we share a similar history. I was lucky enough to have met the font of all Hornsea Pottery knowledge, Carol by arrangement. She guided me through the early days of 1949 through to the potteries departure from the town in 1974. T.G.Green & Co Ltd and Hornsea Pottery shared designers and also a reflection of Greens wares in some Hornsea patterns were evident. Take time to sit and watch a fascinating video (around 30 minutes long) on the history with original footage. A well presented pottery museum that will evoke many memories for many people. I could not fault it !

I need to leave 2 reviews for Hornsea Museum, this and for the Hornsea Pottery collection. Firstly, on entry to the museum you are warmly greeted by extremely knowledgable volunteers with staff nearby to help further if needed. The old farmhouse is magnificently laid out, so much to see with useful recorded information in each room. Even more to see outside, nothing too cramped, easy to move on and return to when quieter. Fishing, Industrial, Agriculture, Railway, Wartime, School, Shop windows... all perfectly laid out and well explained. Hornsea Museum is quite honestly one of the best museums I ever visited ! 10/10

Sorry but dogs, are not admitted ( guide dogs are of course ).
We have a family of mice but not sure that they would be able to entertain visitors!
