Great place with interesting history well described in cadw info boards. Be sure to climb steps to see view over the gatehouse. Work is ongoing so although safe for adults, small children will need to be kept close.
To get there you need to park in the layby at Cowbridge end of St Mary Church village. There is a brown sign but is only visible if travelling from St Athan. The walk is less than 10 minutes across fields with cows and a few stiles (the first is the most challenging).
I took my dog with me. I had to lift him over the stiles and keep on lead near the cows and at the castle, but otherwise a dog-friendly small trek.

This is a nice castle to go see. There is a walk to it but worth the visit. This is a really nice castle, with one room sealed off which is in good condition due to vandalism. Well worth a visit.

Don’t bother going out of your way - we went around in circles looking for the mythical signs to this castle and they don’t seem to exist! Found the track saying no public access to castle but no castle and no parking area! We must have circled it a couple of times but never found it and gave up!

Shame it’s still closed - we parked up in lay-by and headed up the 3 fields to the castle such a peaceful walk too. Arrived to find it’s still closed due to Covid-19 which was a huge shame and understandable in the current circumstances. Headed back to the car and someone had put a sign right where we had recently climbed over the stone style stating it was closed it def wasn’t there before we climbed over as it was right where I had to climb over. Never mind we still enjoyed a nice walk all the same. Cadw website was conflicting too one page had open the other had closed can’t wait for it to be open again

It may seem daunting at first when you find out three fields have to be crossed to get here, but it is worth it. The walk here is part of the experience, as it gives you a feeling that you are the first to arrive in centuries, even though you're not. The most impressive feature of this building is the ornate porch. It is amazing to see such a beautifully crafted piece of stonework survive many years of neglect relatively intact. The rest of the fortified manor house is an interesting explore too, where you can see fireplaces, windows and surviving plasterwork scattered everywhere throughout the many rooms available to explore. The location allows you to be immersed into its world, making you appreciate every room you see. It's not quite a Caerphilly or Raglan Castle type attraction, but overall, a fantastic hidden gem worth seeing with a few spare hours.

Well this is my second visit to Beaupre Castle now and it fascinates me every time. I didn't know what sort of building i was going to the first time i went. I got taken here by my uni mentor as he knows i love all this medieval and Tudor history.
It is a beautiful ruin, there is so much life in this building and so much to explore. I wish Cadw would think about doing sleep overs in the grounds as it would be such a pull for the castle especially as it is suppose to be haunted.
It has made me look more into the history of the house and the previous occupants. It is a great find and i will be going back again, in case i missed anything.

Off the beaten track. Beaupre lies within farming land so need to cross couple field to get there. No dogs allowed due to livestock.

I always have fond memories of this place as a kid and the places you can explore. We trekked through the fields from the main road which was a bit scary with the cows. My boy loved it and sure he will have the same memories as myself.

The castle is in a lovely setting in a valley close to a small river. As you approach, it seems rather plain and forbidding with few windows or signs of decoration. All this changes on the inside with a wonderful Tudor porch, carved with the family crest and with classical style columns. This is a unique feature and is the earliest know use of brick in South Wales. The castle is about 10 minutes walk from the lane, but we visited on a longer day walk that took in Cowbridge, St Hilary and St Quentin's castle. While you can see the outside at an time to see the interior you need to visit in the daytime - between 10-4.

apologies. have just realised my previous answer relates to nearby St Quentin's as opposed to Old Beaupre. I am not aware of parking as I have accessed via public footpath through a field. my sincere apologies if my previous response has caused any confusion or inconvenience
