The spire or column of Sant’Oronzo, the patron saint of Ostuni, is located in Piazza della Liberta. It is a symbol of the city. The column has a pyramidal architectural structure and was constructed in devotion and gratitude to Saint Oronzo for protecting the city from the plague.
Standing at around twenty meters high, the baroque spire has four levels ornately decorated with cartouches, figures of angels, balustrades and statues of saints. The Statue of Sant’Oronzo blessing and facing the old city, dominates at the top.

Built in Baroque style in 1771 in honor of the patron saint, the Spire stands twenty meters high in Piazza della Libertà. On the top there is the statue of Sant'Oronzo blessing, while at the four corners of the second level there are the statues of as many saints.

The Spire of the patron saint of Ostuni is located near the historic center. Dated 1771, it is a spire with column that emerges in the center of Freedom Square. It cannot go unnoticed given its size.

This spire is located in the middle of the main square, Piazza della Liberta. It was made from limestone in the mid-700s and it is more than 20 metres high. It’s dedicated to Saint Orontius

This Baroque-style column dedicated to the patron saint of the town dominates Piazza della Libertà. The saint is depicted as blessing his people and saving them from the plague. It dates from the late 1700’s.
Legend says that to combat the curse of the plague, in addition to scented pills and special medicines, white lime was used to paint the houses; and that gave rise to the name "White City" for Ostuni and others in the area.

Oronzo der Bischof ist hier mit einer Statue verewigt. Die Statue ist ein schöner Fotostop und mit ihrer Grösse auch ein Orientierungspunkt im Labyrinth von Ostuni.
