Grand national 2023 and my first time at the national. I am a regular race goer but last year I decided i would skip Cheltenham for 2023 and go to the national.
I am so glad I did. Me and my partner had Sefton tickets which was on par with Cheltenham club but what a completely different experience. Not crowded very easily access to good viewing points no long lines to get a drink. Short walk to the parade ring. My only tiny negative was had to ask a couple of staff were food was as it wasn’t clear.
The racing was great and of course the grand national was incredible. Took a while to get out of the course so wouldn’t stay for the bumper again. We were given some bad information from a rail staff member which doubled our travel time back to Wrexham which was annoying.
Had a great day and such a different atmosphere compared to Cheltenham, the people on the trains and course were great fun. Booked straight away for next year.

What a fantastic event with everyone there from security to all the team being helpful friendly and welcoming
Considering how many thousands of people attended this event it was well organised, efficient and a great occasion
Totally understand that with additional security being needed there was a need for additional checks to have to take place but the team were amazing
Will definitely recommend the whole experience

So I know it’s a late review but I was actually just thinking of those going to the grand national this year and felt I needed to write about our experience earlier this year.
When we book we always try to book the county platinum stand £200 per ticket. Obviously 2022 was the first national for couple of years since lockdown.
It was a shambles firstly the bar didn’t stock full sugar coke (sugar tax so where’s my personal choice)
Asked for an orange juice was told I needed to purchase the litre carton, it was eventually agreed after the manger became involved that I could purchase a glass.
The stand was fine and dandy at the beginning as the day progressed more and more people kept turning up.
At one point a group just stood right in front of us. The stewards (just one) came up just before the start of the race for people to sit down the group in front didn’t sit at first (then one of the fellas said behave we don’t have tickets for this stand!!!!!
The numbers just kept increasing the people next to us which originally had been 4 soon became 10 and each time we returned from putting a bet on we had to ask people to move from our seats.
When you put a bet on you need to show your badge when you go back to the stand. There was one lady. She was really nice. I spoke with her about all of the extra people in the stand as they just kept increasing and she said I know your not the only one to mention it.
She couldn’t do anything she was on her own and also had to get people sitting at the start of the race. So tell me how when she was having to get people sitting is that ok when she walks away from the area she is meant to be making sure only the right badge holders enter.
Each time I went up the stairs to the bar area it was fuller and fuller I could see badges from other stands on the floor. There were so many people you couldn’t get through them for the toilets.
People were so r at a food counter blatant with the incorrect t badge.
When it was time for the big race you have to show your badge to enter the area for the winning line. That again was a shambles and again due to being short staffed. A group of lads in front of us the security lad says I’m
Sorry you can’t enter they plead and plead and plead and what happens they get to access the area that people have paid for.
It was absolutely rammed.
I absolutely love the grand national but penny pinching and poor security is so so bad and after paying £400 for 2 tickets I’m not sure I would bother again.
In the past you got your ticket and you also had to get a wrist band so the badge plus wrist band confirmed your ticket plus there was always 2 or 3 security at the steps for the stand.
The money that is taken in ticket sales should not need a penny pinching security reduction.
I’m not sure I would ever book a county platinum stand again. It’s the best one to have but penny pinching has destroyed the fabulous experience. !!

Excellent tour of Aintree Racecourse led by Jane Clarke. She was so knowledgeable and her enthusiasm for horse racing and for the Grand National race was impressive. Fascinating trip

Went with a friend, mainly to see Nile Rogers and Chic.
Security was quick and they were speedy getting people into the venue.
There were very few bars open and the one that I waited in for 80 minutes was tiny and serving two gigantic queues. The staff were having to use one bar and walk through with orders to the other side. Hardly any of the pumps were working and they had run out of slimline tonic by race 5. The poor staff were run ragged and the abuse they were getting from customers who had been waiting so long was absolutely horrendous, particularly as it wasn’t their fault. The staff were doing their best but nobody can do everything at once. There were not even backpack beer people around so I resorted to diet coke from the chocolate van as the queue was short.
The toilet situation was dire, no porta loos were anywhere to be seen and the queues were terrible. I waited 45 minutes in a queue for the toilet and missed 15 minutes of the concert! That coupled with the 3 races I missed whilst waiting in the bar meant I might as have stayed at home.
The racecourse is overpriced, under staffed and someone needs to seriously look at planning facilities for large events. They seem to manage theGrand National well enough so I don’t see why they couldn’t plan adequately for this event, it’s almost like they have made their money for the year and they’re not really bothered.
The only thing that made it worth the trip was Nile Rogers and Chic who were absolutely fabulous. Would definitely recommend seeing them but at another venue.

Spent £27,000 on our event for 450 people and worked for 9 months on it and Aintree were horrific throughout. All I can say is AVOID hosting your event at this venue. You will be lied to consistently from start to end. We were told the whole meal would be finished by 9pm, the starters hadn't even been served by then. We were told they would be able to cater to dietary requirements yet we were then told on the day we had 'too many vegetarians', despite giving them detailed numbers and meal plans which went ignored. They are completely incompetent at dealing with any dietary diversity, not sure if they are capable of dealing with more than one demographic of guests to be quite honest. Food was served over 2 hours late meaning we will have to refund some guests but Aintree have not given us any compensation yet as we have had no communication with them. Every single excuse they gave fell completely flat and when I mentioned that to our 'manager' Dean on the day he nodded his head and said 'I know'. Honestly at a loss as to how they can get away hosting events for 450 people when they are not prepared to cope with these numbers. Required me running around throughout the event directing staff myself as no one would pick up their phones. It was a nightmare. If we do not receive compensation we will be taking this further.

Stayed at the Travelodge appropriately 1.5 mile from the entrance to the racecourse. The hotel is nice and quite although next to the main road. The beefeater restaurant pub attached has good food and is reasonably priced. The availability of a taxi was a problem but was quickly cured when my wife made the call and a female voice seemed to cure the lack of availability.

The gates usually open at 11:00 am on Grand National day. The bars remain open for a good time after racing to enable crowds to leave gradually,

We're looking on booking the West Tip stand this year. I can't see any pictures of the 'Private Bar' has anyone got any?
Also, how early would you say to get there on the Thursday to get a seat?
