Ok, it is just a bridge. A pleasing bridge to view and if possible delve into its history.
The glory is its setting, a lovely area with the riverside buildings on a kind of quay, reminiscent of seaside places. Looking at the bridge as a part of the whole 360 degree vista is stunning. Admittedly it was a nice sunny day, whether the attraction is as strong on a rainy cold day I’m not so sure!
Not much to actually do but sitting outside with a cold drink from the Italian restaurant was a lovely way to spend half an hour or so, watching the wildlife on the river, the boats and some humans going about their business.

When my Mum was in hospital and my Aunties came to her bedside this little church served us as a good place to spend time and close to great eating and drinking places.

The bridge forms a prominent landmark by the wharf over The Great Ouse. Well worth a walk over it and the view at night is also stunning, being lit up.

As a history buff, this bridge is unique. It has a history and supposedly, as told to me by the local people living there, the arches of the bridge are unique and only one of a few in the UK with that design. The chapel on the bridge was a nice visit.

The Saxon name for the town was Slepe (muddy) and that was because there was no bridge until Norman times but you could cross the River Great Ouse, at some cost to your clothing! Then a wooden bridge was built, allowing the town to develop until, sometime before 1426, a stone bridge was built, with a chapel. A strange idea - there are only four bridges with chapels in the country - but it served its purpose. The chapel has had various uses over the centuries but it was restored to be the Chapel of St Ledger in 1930. Though no longer used as a chapel, you can get the key from the Town Hall or the Norris Museum. Unfortunately, we did not know that until we looked at the website at home!
Both Chapel and Bridge are Grade I Listed and they made the town what it is today!

How do you get to the Dolphin Hotel as no cars allowed over the bridge.. Travel from Ely need to know by pass from Marsh Harrier

Go past the Marsh Harrier, go left at the roundabout and go along the bypass. Go over the bypass bridge - you can see the old town bridge as you cross the river. Then go right at the roundabout and take the first right at the crossroads onto London Road. The Dolphin is at the end of that road.
