I had such a great experience overall, i booked 4 lessons in a week as you get hooked on surfing and the vibe of the surf instructors, with a lot of patients, professional involved attitude, technique improvement advice and a lot of laughter, i increased my surf skills immensely. Will be back for sure! And thank you so much for your positivity.

Amazing teachers and such a good attitude with the students. Everything moves at your own pace, no rush, just enjoying the surf and getting comfortable with the board. Very positive experience would recommend 10/10 🏄🏼♀️

Amazing teachers and the whole experience. Love how they speak about surfing 🏄🏽♀️ and the lifestyle of it. Makes you to fall in love with this even more. Enjoying attention and instructions during the class - highly recommended 🙌🏼

My child was at a lesson and one of the surf instructors Andre left the lesson to paddle after a young lady and shouted in her face and raised his hand to her face saying he would hit her if she didn't leave the water. Disgusting to think that he thinks it's ok to speak like that to people, especially in front of young children

We had a fabulous morning surfing booked very last minute. The wet suit hire and surfboard hire were included in the €40 per person fee. We arrived at the same school and were quickly kitted out and transported to another beach about 2 km away by bus. Very efficient service. There were two instructors one looking after another group of five and Mario looking after our family group. We could’ve benefited from a bit more instruction from Mario although he was great. It was slightly confusing that we were taught two different ways to get up on the board! One from one instructor, one from the other. It did not detract from a fantastic morning in the waves. We enjoyed a good hour and a half in the water.

My son (13 years old) and I had our first surf lesson today and had a great time with West Coast Surf School in Ericeira.
The staff were very helpful. They made sure we felt welcome, understood the basics and safety instructions before we went into the water and we still had around 1.5 hours taking turns in the waves. The chosen beach and the time of day was perfect for us as beginners. The size of group - 5 (their maximum per instructor) was also perfect to allow enough time to surf in on a wave and get back to the starting point where the instructor gave us more tips with only a very short wait.
The wetsuits, shoes and transport to and front the beach was all part of the package. I would definitely recommend this surf school for first timers like us.
Turns out my son is a natural but I have a bit more practice to do!! Still they had me standing up on the board within a couple of goes.

West Coast Surf School can highly be recommended. The team is very professional and not only concerned about the safety of the customers, they also want you to learn a lot during the lessons and most importantly to have fun on the board.
I never stood on a surf board before. Together with my girlfriend, who already surfed before, I booked a course for beginners. First of all, all the instructors at the West Coast Surf School are very friendly and professional. They made sure, we got perfectly fitting wetsuits along with shoes to protect our feet on the sharp rocks.
The lesson started with a short introduction how to handle the surfboard and leash. The instructors made sure, everyone in the group understood the most basic safety rules on the board and in the water. Next, they showed us the correct technique for standing up on the surfboard. Finally and most importantly, they reminded us to have fun on the board.
One of the outstanding characteristics of this school is that one instructor only teaches a small group of people. In our case, only four people were guided by Nuno, who owns the school. The other surf schools that were on the same beach had bigger groups and seemed much less organised.
After the short introduction we immediately started to head for the waves. Our instructor Nuno took us into the ocean and began to push us into the waves. He always picked some good waves for me as a beginner and it really was a lot of fun. Nuno always was concerned about our safety and reminded others surfers and also surfing instructors to keep enough distance for everybody’s safety. He was always very calm and gave very clear instructions and advice how to improve my technique and how to steer the board.
The first few hours went by so quickly and after we had a group lesson on the first day, we decided to book a private lesson for the next day.
Nuno welcomed us at the school and this time directly started to give some more advanced technique advice about how to steer the surfboard and how to increase or decrease the speed. As it was only my girlfriend and me with him, he gave feedback after each wave. His nice and calm attitude was very welcoming and he made sure, we made progress and had a lot of fun on the waves.
If you plan to do some surfing lessons in Ericeira, I highly recommend to book a lesson with Nuno or one of his instructors at West Coast Surf School, as quality, safety and respect are some of their most important values. If you can, book a private lesson, but even if you choose to do a group lesson, you will learn a lot as the groups are always very small and the instructors can concentrate on each and everyone in the group.
