Greeted warmly although entrance is more difficult to find, probably out of season. We were the only ones there so had the garden to ourselves. It’s very pretty but very small. So you can be around 30, so not an all day thing.

Very poor signage to find one's way into the gardens. Small sign up asking you to pay for tickets in the cafe (good job we're honest because you could easily just walk through the gardens without paying!). Ramp up to the garden area padlocked shut, so my elderly Mum had to be helped up some very difficult stairs. Very small gardens and definitely not worth the entrance fee. Cafe offered nice coffee but wouldn't order the cakes as they were all out on a table and covered in flies! Nothing else on offer to eat so just had the coffee. Outside area could be nice but was bland and uninspiring. Big let down really.

This is a tricky place to find, tucked away behind a high-end shopping centre that has seen better days. On arrival we were greeted by empty units and very little information on how to find the gardens. However, I am so glad we persevered because it is a truly inspirational place. The viaduct acts as a visual centrepiece, surrounded by ponds, little waterfalls and streams and beautiful planting. It is a place to sit and relax and to forget about day to day cares. In a way I was glad it was hard to find because there were very few visitors, which added to the tranquility of the place, You really must visit if you are in the area.

The car parking is tight.
We thought the price of a ticket was rather expensive for the time of year.
The gardens were pleasing to walk round but lacking in colour near the viaduct.
We had plenty of time to walk round not very busy.
The grass was nicely cut and clear of weeds.
The lake was relaxing to sit by and watch the ducks doing there thing.
The small water features were also pleasing to hear.

The gardens are smallish, but exquisite.
When you enter, walk straight ahead, passing the water on the right, and then turn right and go over the bridge. It looks like a dead-end, so we almost didn't bother.
But after crossing, you turn left and experience an interesting corner of the gardens.
The main part of the gardens is really cleverly designed. There is always something new and interesting to see, just a little way away.
Sad to see that the whole site is closing down, hopefully to reopen under new management.

Lovely quiet gardens with fair sized pond / lake and little stream and waterfalls. Nice and quiet when we visited (Monday afternoon). Not huge area in total, but big enough to find a quiet spot to relax in.

We very surprised to see so many poor and negative reviews for these beautiful gardens, until on inspection they are nearly all relating to the designer village, the cafe or the small garden centre, or in one instance the car park and the fact that it had posh cars in it. So a lot of people seem to have missed the point that this listing says “Gardens” and there is a completely separate listing for the designer village and associated cafe.
With respect to the gardens, the acreage may be small and they are dominated by the central lake, but the planting is very interesting and there is something to see at most times of year. The walk around the lake is very relaxing and the formal beds under the very impressive Charlton viaduct were extremely colourful last week. But probably the best bit is the paths through the rock garden that gets you close to the intense planting in this area.
I will concur with others that the price to enter the gardens is a little steep for what is here and you would have thought that given what Lady Mulberry makes from flogging her handbags the price point could be adjusted more favourably. But all things are relative, and at the same price point as a pint in a London pub nowadays I got value out of my entrance ticket, especially as over 60’s quality for the £5 concession.
We found the cafe to be ok, although we did seem to avoid the “officious one” referred to by many others, and it will be better when they ditch the silly cardboard containers. But have to agree with a lot of the comments relating to the designer village. This is a complete waste of time, unless you do have a posh car parked in the car park of course.

The garden restaurant was awful, dirty tables and cigarette butts on the ground. It cost £4.50 for 2 teas served in paper cups!

Gardens were lovely, better than some National Trust places we've visited, even in the rain. Garden shop highly recommended with competitive prices and a wide range of plants available. Staff were very knowledgeable and helpful.
Designer Village was sadly underwhelming. A limited range and not many clothes for men and teenagers. The home-ware building was better but we still left without buying anything.
Will come again to the garden and cafe.

Paul Smith arful ticket system and felt forced to have hand sanitizer even with open sores so good by .garden centre refused to take £2.50 in cash so I'm determined not to go there again

Hello! Most of the garden is accessible by wheelchair but there is one small rockery section that is not. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the gardens.

My mum is in a wheelchair. Is it disabled friendly as I am sure she would to visit before we get on the steam train ride.

Hello there,
Due to the historic nature of our site, we do have limited wheelchair access. Access to the shops is largely wheelchair friendly and about half of the gardens can be accessed via wheelchair, however there are some uneven paths which can also be slippery when wet.
