Lovely environment which takes a walk and effort to get there so you feel as though you deserve that extra pint. Kathy’s cakes are great. An excellent small micro pub and outdoor cafe. Table service inside and outside for the pub is excellent and friendly, and hatch service for cafe is also quick and easy.
Great hot pastries and cakes, plus full range of hot and cold drinks always available. Carefully selected real ales, ciders (Changing weekly) and draft German lager available. More tables are available outside than previously, and its a great spot to sit and watch the boats moving through the lock.
Recently reopened under new ownership of Paul and Katie, and always a friendly welcome. Its great to see it open again, non smoking inside and out and dog friendly.

Terrific place, great beer, friendly for folk and dogs. A real cozy haven, once we get inside we never want to leave. Thanks Dave and Kathryn for many lovely times.

First of all, the quality of the cask ale here is second to none, absolutely faultless. Our disappointment upon a repeat visit is that there are hardly any seats or tables outside. On a previous visit the long sheltered area was available, but it apperas that this is now reserved for the tea and ice cream clientele.
I'm sure there are reasons for this, but what a disappointment to have the choice of standing outside or sitting on a low wall.
Again, I'm sure there are reasons why this pub decides to close at 4pm on a Summer Sunday afternoon, but this too was a disappointment.
Adequate seating outside is essential when you consider that the pub itself is too small to swing a cat round in.

Visited the micro pub as we were moored up at the Marina. Wow, brilliant atmosphere, beers and ciders. Very cosy. Particularly liked the 'tasters'third of a pint in each glass to see which you prefer. The ciders were amazing. Well worth a visit.

We keep our boat at Derby Motor Boat Club on the opposite side of Sawley Locks and this is our regular haunt for a drink and snack. Dave and Kathryn are great hosts and the ability to try out three third-of-a-pint local beers is an unusual way to drink a pint! Well worth a visit!

A lovely small micro pub which is very friendly and has some great local ales . Small is the operative word so don't be surprised if at the weekend you end up standing/sitting outside . Well worth a visit

Great but small selection of real ales and ciders. Beers are well kept and friendly staff.
Please not that there is no parking facilities here and you have to park locally to then walk to it. But it’s definitely worth the walk.
