!!! Watch out, dangerous rock falls. I advise against going for a walk in the magnificent Wutach Gorge that we had discovered one summer. Theoretically, hiking is very beautiful, especially during the good seasons, and can be done safely.
We returned this week, parking in the parking lot “Drei Schülter Halle” in the municipality of Bachheim. Parts of the route have shown that there have been recent rock falls from crumbling cliffs on several parts of the path.
I’m surprised that the authorities don’t deny access, and there are no warning signs.
I strongly advise against visiting the gorges.
For children, from the parking lot “Drei Schülter Halle” in the municipality of Bachheim, the top of the path to the gorge includes wooden games, outdoors. You can go there safely, it is located a few hundred meters from the parking lot, well before the descent to the gorges and dangerous cliffs.

Highly recommended hike. However, you have to have very good footwear and surefootedness. We made a nice circuit from the parking lot of the Three Gorges Hall down to Wutach and then towards Burgmühle, where you can eat and drink well. From there we hiked back to the parking lot via the easy path. The route is about 10 km long and also good for dogs of medium size. Only one or two places along the Wutach are a little narrow.

Beautiful 3-gorges tour, Wutach, Gauchach and Engeschlucht. We have chosen the starting point for the circular hike, about 3.5 hours, village kiosk Bachheim in Löffingen. Incredibly beautiful canyon landscapes and you already have to be a little sure-footed, partly it has tricky poses. At the end follows the narrow gorge, but you should only complete this part in drought, otherwise the sometimes narrow walkways are very slippery and muddy, risk of slipping! But there is also a bad weather variant for this part of the route.

The Wutachschlucht is one of the classic gorge hiking areas in Germany and is truly unique due to its topography and special climate. I have been hiking through the gorge for decades, preferably in spring or autumn. Summer can be great when it's not hot, because on hot days the heat builds up in the valley basin and attacks the circulation. It's best to travel from your overnight stay by public transport, as this takes more time. I organize the hike as follows: park the car in the Wutachmühle car park, then take the bus to Boll - Dorf, this connection is sometimes only seasonal, alternatively to Schattenmühle or only as far as Bonndorf and then the road to Boll Dorf (which is 3km and unfortunately not that exciting). From Boll to Wutachmühle it is about 10.8km (Schattenmühle-Wutachmühle about 14km; pure walking time for the shorter variant is about 3-3.5 hours. Breaks are extra and there is a lot to see; picnic area at the Schurhammer hut is ideal; there is also a wonderful place (2/3 of the way) where you can take your shoes off and walk through the water or at the Wutach's outlet. Geologically you can see how the river has "eaten" deep into the landscape (120-150 m), breeding dippers in spring, water herons or even the kingfisher (I saw them several times at Steg, which then leads to the Gauchachschlucht. Botanically the arid climate above, the deciduous forests with a temperate climate and the partly tropical climate of the valley floodplain make the hearts of nature lovers beat faster. Years ago I thought I knew everything, but when I was out with a pharmacist I was speechless. It's true - in no area Europe has so many rare plants and such different climate zones as here. You should only hike the gorge if you are a good walker, most of the paths are safe, but there are also some tricky spots (less than 1%). Good shoes and only if the gorge has been dry for one or two days, i.e. when it has not rained heavily. Dogs must be kept on a leash, even if it is difficult;

In the event of an accident: remember the sector letter and call when there is cell reception (poor conditions in the gorge); there are some unofficial access points so that you can quickly get cell reception at the top.

Apart from the Schattenmühle (inn with catering) and the Wutachmühle (kiosk), there are no food options; the nearest inns are in the villages on the edge of the gorge, many of which are only open on weekends. There used to be an inn near the Wutachmühle in the building of the old sawmill. We would happily wait 1-2 hours for the public bus. It was so beautiful because it was so quaint. Have fun hiking through the gorge...

We were there with both kids (4 & 7) and hiked the 3 Gorges tour. About 10 km.
The paths are varied. In some places our kids could climb. In the narrow gorge the kids had to walk on a rope or be held by the hand. There are some places here that require surefootedness and a head for heights. But this part can also be skipped (take the bad weather route).
The landscape is incredibly beautiful.

Einmalig. Es ist absolut sehenswert. Man muss auch nicht die ganze Schlucht durchwandern wenn man nicht fit ist. Je nach Lichteinfall ergeben sich verschiedene Stimmungen. Wir werden wieder kommen.

Wij hebben de 3 schluchtenroute gelopen van ongeveer 10 km. Prachtig en goed aangegeven. Let op dat als het geregend heeft een deel van het pad omhoog de berg op (smalle richel) heel blubberig en glad is. Een deel is ook voor mensen met hoogtevrees een uitdaging. Heel mooie route, veel bloemen en je loopt langs talloze stroomversnellingen en watervallen. Aanrader!

We completed the three gorge circular walk today. It's just over 6 miles starting from the main car park and took us about 2.5 hours. There are signs stating the last gorge should only be undertaken by those who are sure footed and have head for heights but we didn't find it too difficult, just need to take care (and we are in our late 50s, although quite fit and accustomed to hiking). It had rained in the night and the path throughout was a little bit slippery as its quite stony.
Overall, it was a nice walk, not very hilly and by the side of the stream for the most part. Felt more like we were walking in a steep valley, more than a gorge though.

Wir waren im Dezember bei leichtem Regen dort, weshalb die Wege etwas matschig und rutschig waren, das war mit etwas Vorsicht aber kein großes Problem.
Die Natur ist einfach beeindruckend und uns hat auch gefallen, dass die Wege sehr naturbelassen sind. Hier und da etwas Schmal, aber an steilen Stücken mit Stahlseilen begrenzt.
Wenn das Wetter, wie bei uns nicht das beste ist, ist es total leer und die Stimmung mystisch. Sehr zu empfehlen, aber das richtige Schuhwerk sollte man dabeihaben.
Die Natur ist einfach beeindruckend und uns hat auch gefallen, dass die Wege sehr naturbelassen sind. Hier und da etwas Schmal, aber an steilen Stücken mit Stahlseilen begrenzt.
Wenn das Wetter, wie bei uns nicht das beste ist, ist es total leer und die Stimmung mystisch. Sehr zu empfehlen, aber das richtige Schuhwerk sollte man dabeihaben.

Si vous faites un aller et retour comme nous oui. La nature est tellement Superbe, propre que cela n ennuie pas si faut le voir a nouveau

What are the walking conditions in the Wutachschlucht . I don't like heights and have read one place that you should stay away if you suffer from dizziness?

Hey. Depends from what you prefer, but you can easy make route from for example which does not need significant physical effort or experience in walking the mountains, etc.
