…durante il mio trekking in val d’Orcia!!…praticamente da Pienza a San Quirico d’Orcia!!…per cui paesaggio fantastico!!…e precisamente in località detta “Vitaleta”!!…chiaramente in aperta campagna!!…ho visitato questa bella Cappella dedicata appunto alla Madonna di Vitaleta!!…è sito Unesco!!…si dice che sia di proprietà privata!!…ma al momento del mio passaggio era aperta!!…per cui sono entrata a visitarla!!…la struttura si presenta molto bene!!…anche grazie a un restauro avvenuto pochi anni fa!!…si dice un importante lavoro di restauro insieme al terreno circostante!!…chiaramente finanziato dal proprietario!!…complimenti!!…l’esterno si presenta molto semplice!!…in pietra della zona!!…con un piccolo rosone sopra il portone d’ingresso!!…e con un piccolo campanile!!…l’interno è a navata unica!!…con una volta stellata!!…un piccolo altare!!…da vedere sicuramente se ci si trova da quelle parti parti!!…questa “Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta!!…

Cappella divenuta famosa per il paesaggio che ha intorno, facilmente raggiungibile con una strada bianca, si parcheggia prima del cancello e si fa una piacevole camminata di 10 minuti.

Una tappa imperdibile nel giro della Val D'Orcia. Facilmente raggiungibile attraverso un breve tratto di sterrato che dalla Strada Provinciale conduce a questa piccola ma significativa Cappella perfettamente incastonata nel paesaggio unico della Valle.

We enjoyed stopping at the chapel. The view of Pienza across the field where we parked was breathtaking. The chapel’s small and intimate and worth the walk. I confess; however, to be confused by the restaurant’s location next door… it must be relatively new and if so, it’s built too close to this iconic landmark and mars the prospect.

Dopo aver percorso un breve tratto di sterrato, abbiamo parcheggiato all'inizio del percorso di circa 700 metri che porta poi alla chiesetta.
La collina è davvero un luogo suggestivo e da visitare se siete in zona.

This is a must see in Tuscany, one of the best sights in the area. We parked about 500 metres away from it and walked along the dirt track road to it surrounded by beautiful scenery - the chapel has an outstanding setting - while there, try the restaurant next to it - it is lovely

It is definitely worth your time to stop here, despite the walk from the parking area. We had viewed from the distance previously so we were very pleased to actually get there. Yes, peaceful, quiet, beautiful Tuscan country side in the Val d'Orca. No, we don't agree with the restaurant nor with other visitors standing right in front while others are trying to take photos. Please be respectful of others while viewing this beautiful capella.

La piccola cappella incorniciata tra due filari di cipressi, per quando piccola e sperduta tra i campi della Val d’Orcia è diventata la protagonista dei paesaggi più conosciuti al mondo. Da poco ristrutturata è inclusa nel territorio dell'Arcidiocesi di Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino. Un paesaggio fiabesco, suggestivo, rilassante immerso nel verde. La Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta è accostata al celebre film Il Gladiatore perché la scena finale del colossal cinematografico è stata girata nei pressi dell’antica Pieve di Corsignano, a Pienza. Vicinissimo alla cappella un piccolo punto di ristoro dove poter fare una piacevole sosta serviti dal gentilissimo Silvio.

Spesso i lunghi visti in foto sono leggermente diversi dal vivo, magari un po' deludenti. Questo decisamente non è il caso. Questa cappella sembra un affresco in un ambiente bucolico e rilassante con la possibilità di ammirare la tavolozza di colori di madre natura.

La cappella è stata recentemente restaurata e ora,a differenza del passato, è possibile visitarla anche all'interno.Io personalmente l'ho visitata diverse volte,ma nn so gli orari in quanto non sono esposti

Can you actually drive to the chapel? I.e. take pictures in front of it, rather just from the distance on the road? I followed the road on street view and can see that there is a gate as you drive towards it, so not sure if it's a private property.... thanks!

Hi Superkaik, I noticed no-one else has answered, so I will do my best !
I have driven past (and stopped) on many occasions, but, never been any closer than the road. I see from some of the other photos, at least 1 taken quite close and from behind, so access must be possible. I also noticed that another photo shows a signpost for a cycle/walking path to the chapel, although I have to say I haven't noticed it myself. Lastly an Italian couple have said that they celebrated a wedding anniversary there and lit a candle in the chapel. Whether or not permission is required for access I don't know, but, it does seem possible.

What is the best way to get to this chapel from Rome? Also, how far is it from Pienza? Can you walk from the town center?

It's about 15 minutes maybe from Pienza by car. It's off the SR2 is all I remember. Look for the dirt road lined with cypress trees. That windy road takes you right to the Chapel.
