One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The walk through the Gorge of the Acheron River - and some of it on horseback was just breathtaking. I understand it gets very busy in the high season but if you're there in spring as I was you won't be disappointed. Oh yes, we also took the river ride and the zip wire. Both of which were good fun. Take a picnic or eat at the taverna by the river - again highly recommended.

Posto incantevole il fiume scorre tra le le pareti ripide, l’acqua è gelida ma cristallina, bisogna munirsi di scarpette perché il forno del fiume è ovviamente pieno di pietre.

Lasciata Preveza e preso in direzione Nord, trascorso qualche chilometro si giunge alla necropoli. La zona è parecchio vasta, ornata per parecchi tratti da possenti mura, e purtroppo si presenta in condizioni di trascuratezza. Il costo del biglietto è di otto euro, ma comprende anche la visita al museo archeologico, che si trova all'uscita della città. Non lo sapevamo, ma sicuramente è preferibile effettuare la visita lasciandolo per ultimo. Nell'area antica meritano attenzione i resti della Domus di Ekdikos Georgios e gli splendidi mosaici della Basilica "A", oltre ad una fonte parzialmente restaurata. Il resto necessita di molta immaginazione, in quanto consiste di qualche colonna e tratti dell'antica pavimentazione stradale. Una cartina con relativa mappa, collocate appena dopo la biglietteria, aiutano a rendersi conto di ciò che rappresentava questo luogo. Usciti dall'area e percorsi circa duecento metri si valicano le mura, e si può visitare l'Odeum, il teatro coperto (ai suoi tempi), che è sicuramente la parte migliore del sito. Una visita anche alla porta ovest, restaurata, e tutto sommato si può finire qui.

If you love Roman antiquities, GO, this is a massive site with so much to see, massive walls, theatres, it the largest Roman city outside Italy, one city wall must be over a Roman mile long, 8 euros if you go in and that allows you to enter the site, the theatre and the museum in Preveza. I look Roman history so for me it was a dream come true and unlike the UK you can actually go inside the ruins, (no one in yellow coats saying keep off this or that) I went underground into the cells the actors or gladiators use, imangine doing that in the UK. You drive through the fire so if you come across a dirt road follow it, the actual main road runs through the site, now on to the museum in Preveza, well worth a visit as are all modern museums in Greece. But you need to look out for it, you travel back into Preveza it’s in the left hand side, one of the first buildings in from the city, watch for the crossing though otherwise it’s a long way to turn back. By the way now we have left the EU there are no concessions for the elderly, full price now everywhere, but go, you won’t be disappointed

Siamo stati a Preveza per un week end lungo e rivolgerci a questa agenzia ha cambiato il nostro viaggio. Dopo due giorni spesi a girare a vuoto e dopo un’esperienza traumatica con un tassista locale, la locandina colorata di Caravan Tour ha colpito la mia attenzione, e anche se il negozio era chiuso ho provato a comporre il numero telefonico in essa indicato. Una gentilissima donna ha risposto mettendosi a nostra completa disposizione, proponendoci un tour che in una sola giornata ci ha consentito di visitare tutti i posti meravigliosi che avevamo individuato. Attenzione, cortesia, amore per la propria terra e accoglienza sono solo alcune delle caratteristiche che abbiamo trovato, unite ad una grandissima professionalità. Durante il giro oltre alla storia legata ai luoghi che abbiamo visitato, ci sono stati raccontati aneddoti e curiosità. Tutto si è svolto senza fretta, dandoci il tempo di godere appieno di ogni singolo sito visitato. Da provare assolutamente!

We chose the best excursion. We went to see the archeological sites and Acheron river where we ate under the trees. It was mythical. The owners, driver and guide where helpful but discreet, leaving us space and time when needed. Thanks!

Thank you for this opportunity to explore the area. We had no car and knowledge about which places to visit. Thankfully with two of the offered tours we saw just about everything we planned to. Joan and Chris are super cool

Θα μου μείνει αξέχαστη η εκδρομή μας, πραγματικά! Η περιήγησή μας σε αρχαιολογικούς χώρους όσο και σε ιστορικά μνημεία ήταν για πρώτη φορά διασκεδαστική κ καθόλου βαρετή για μένα! Η κοπέλα που έχει το ταξιδιωτικό γραφείο είναι απίστευτη! Το όνομα της Ιωάννα!Μαζί μας είχαμε ένα ζευγάρι Ισπανών, μια Ιταλίδα, δύο Άγγλους και έναν Γερμανό κύριο, και μιλούσε με όλους στη γλώσσα τους κ τους περιέγραφε κάθε λεπτομέρεια με άνεση λες και κάθε μία από αυτές τις γλώσσες να ήταν η μητρική της!
Πέρα από αυτό, ήταν μια οικονομική εκδρομή με το αξιόπιστο Caravan tours το οποίο συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα σε όποιον σκέφτεται να οργανώσει μια εκδρομή η ένα ταξίδι! Είμαι σίγουρη ότι σε όλους θα αφήσει μια θετική ανάμνηση!

A day well spent exploring interesting sights with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide, the lovely Ioanna. Warmly recommended, especially for history buffs but also for anyone who appreciates natural scenery. The name of the river Acheron supposedly means "Joyless", but it's a crystal clear delight, and rafting there (for a small extra fee) was fun. In sum, this trip was well worth the time and cost.
