Loved dry river, & once you got to the top the cave was just gorgeous!

Surreal to finally reach the cave. The rock formations are beautiful and is slowly growing with gentle dripping of water from above. Quite a steep climb up.

A fantastic but challenging walk (approx of an hour) with a steep climb, rewards you with a spectacular cave, really well supported with a great viewing platform. Return walk is not fast with the steep downhill. Wear decent footwear and take your time. Probably not suitable for those with dodgey hips and knees. Path is narrow and has many steps up and over tree roots and small drops etc. We went after a day of rain and it was pretty slippery.

This is a great spot to go to if you’re in Golden Bay, but the walk was not what I was expecting ! It is almost entirely up hill, going over rocks and over roots, and it is quite steep. It can be VERY slippery and is NOT an easy walk. Please be aware when you go here that you will have to climb up the hill and then back down the same steep path. If you’re unsure about how hard it may be, walk along to the steep part and figure out if it’s something you’re comfortable with.
Very cool cave with nice information boards and worth doing if you’re up to the walk.

These caves will not disappoint. The 2.2km walk requires moderate fitness. With a fit 9yo and 7yo it took 30mins to reach the cave. The track starts out flat and wide, but turns into a relatively steep climb with multiple switchbacks. The caves make the walk worthwhile and are nice and cool on a hot summer day. There is a good platform to observe inside the cave.

One of those wow moments when you get to the end of a track. Yes, have to be careful and watch your step but it's not an overly hard walk. The sight of huge stalactites meet you at the entrance of the large cave and the flora enhances the view looking back out of the cave...awesome

We have done this hike 3 times now and absolutely love the cave - totally worth the effort! It is not the easiest track, so I would not recommend it for someone who doesn’t have a decent level of fitness. One point it quite steep with loose ground and you need to use a rope to get up and down. Also note that this track is very difficult to do when it has been raining. It gets very slippery and is quite dangerous.
This is a real hidden gem and worth the hike to see the cave. Highly recommend!

The walk up to this cave is a bit of a climb but it is totally worth it. Care is needed on entering the cave as the stairs can be slippery. The colour and the sunlight in the cave is fascinating.

A tough second half of the track, however the cave is amazing. Definitely worthwhile for anyone who likes a challenge! Took us 51 minutes return for the 4.3km. Recommend for anyone who doesn’t wish to pay for the ngarua cave!

Keep clambering upward and take care coming down; it is all well worthwhile for an amazingly large and impressive cave. Highly recommend!

Hi guys, is this track possible with a toddler on backpack? I've read that it's quite steep towards the end of the track, so wondering if it's ok to bring along a toddler.
Also, do I need to bring a pole for this track? Thanks.

Not really, it’s very steep and if you slipped it may not be a good outcome
