Looked on TripAdvisor at Cardiff, so we decided to to Margum park we were glad we did, the food was expensive but it is at all such events, the actual light event was brilliant, the kids loved it (in all honesty so did the adults) if it's good next year we will be back

Very poor light show, lights seemed to be randomly placed with no theme running throughout. Most of the lighting were string lights following the path. Food stalls were half way through the walk and consisted of a pizza stall, waffle stall (waffles were delicious) and a very average looking burger stall serving hot dogs, burgers and bacon rolls. The light show then continued with some slightly better but still very disappointing lights until you ended back up at the car park.
I have been to a few light shows, one being Bute park which is considerably better with more food choices and a beautiful display of themed lights throughout. All for maybe £2 more than what you pay for the underwhelming display at Margam park.
Overall extremely disappointing, definitely wouldn’t recommend and will not be returning next year. £147 for 5 adults, a child and 2 car parking tickets. Absolute rip off for what’s on display.

In general there were some nice light parts.
The tunnel, dangly lights and fairy light section. It had two interactive points for children.
The most impressive by far was the light show in front of the castle. This lasted a good 5 minutes and was entertaining.
On the downside no staff to direct you where to go at the start.
Lots of broken lights
We stopped for 2 small mulled wines and 3 marshmallows and paid nearly £30
Staff at the stands were friendly
The main issue was the queuing . Every drinks stand , photo area, light show, interactive section had long queues. It was a slow trudge around the path as there were so many people.
Even going so slowly it took us only 40 minutes to complete the course.
I don’t think it was worth the money

We attended the Luminate event 10 December 2024 and I felt the best lights were in the car park when trying to find my car.
To say I was wholeheartedly disappointed, took longer to write than the enjoyment factor of the event.
B&M and Poundstretcher were probably rubbing their hands with glee at getting rid of the lights that they’ve had out the back of their stores as nobody else wanted them for years.
When we parked up, there was nobody there to point us in the direction of where to walk to. When we did find someone, they pointed to go a different direction to where you normally entered the grounds.
Going through the start and we were met with an animated dragon on a screen. This was a nice start but short lived. I will say more about this shortly.
Starting along the path, and there were lights on the grass and then came across glitter balls, which quite frankly looked like they had been dragged down from the attic and just put about at willy nilly. If there had been an attempt to shine lights on them all to get a nice effect from them, it could have been a lot better but as it was, there weren’t lights on them all to actually reflect light around.
As you followed the path around, we came across a stall for drinks however t wasn’t the most equipped if they were expecting a lot of people.
Bypassing the shack quickly, all the lighting just seemed to be loads of rope lights for the paths. There could have been illuminated figures, dragons, etc dotted around to have some sort of a theme.
You keep walking on and on and finally get to the food court. Luckily there were just 3 of us as the range of food was basic but costly. A jumbo hot dog cost £7, a burger cost £7, a quorn burger cost £7, a portion of chips, go on, have a guess…….nope not this time, it was £6. The excitement and anticipation of the guess of the price was more exciting than the overly priced very mediocre hot dog.
The animation on the front of the house was nice but didn’t tie into a theme of the event at all. I think I may have misled you here thinking there was a theme but sadly there wasn’t and there was no cohesion all the way around.
It was poorly planned, set out and the lighting display was sorely disappointing and was the worst £40 spent on visiting light displays after being to different events around the country before which were of such a vastly better planned and thought out display so had high hopes this one would have been good.
Would I recommend the event to anyone? Only to someone visually impaired so they can’t see how disappointing it all was.
Oh yes, I just remembered the animated dragon i mentioned earlier. I nearly forgot. When you get to the back of the canvas it was shown on, behind it was as if it was set up to house a homeless person as there was a tent and equipment just left there. It was as if they could be bothered to put things away.
As we drove away and passed loads of cars arriving for their time slot, all that came to my head was there were more bright lights on the cars than the trail.

Lovely day out with historic abbey ruins and house lots of lush walks too. Loved the pets area including petting area and the alpacas the children loved this.
The grounds are lovely and has a little train ride, nursery play area and you get to see the wild deer and sheep. Also has a coffee place to grab and go.
Cost £7.80 to park. We spent a lovely day here exploring. Highly recommended

We spent a day with our grandchildren aged 5 and 2. The country park is highly recommended for all ages as there was a lot to explore and experience.
The kids particularly enjoyed the magical Fairytale Village with adventure castle, miniature houses and play areas.
Within the enclosed area there is a small cafeteria that sells snacks and beverages.
As it was half term, there were arts and crafts for the children to participate at the large castle as well as an entertaining half hour Halloween show.
There is no entrance fee except £7 parking fee.
Great place, particularly in school holidays when additional events take place.

Went here with my daughter & 4 grandchildren, walked up a path were there was a few scary skellingtons etc, we had the 16.15 session, so not quite dark yet. Was so excited to walk through castle, it was all of 5/10 mins long with a few people dresses up & then greeted outside my bumper cars & swings which cost another £4 & £5 again, after paying out £80 for fright night, the last thing you need is paying out again. Definitely not worth it, and definitely will not go back again.

Attended fright nights at Margam park.
It’s not worth the money, it’s over before it’s even begun, the fair in the centre really killed the atmosphere. The actors were fantastic but there were hardly any of them, the trail wasn’t at all scary, it took barely anytime to get through it all and is definitely not worth the money at all. Wouldnt recommend.

Fab day exploring the park the farm trail is lovely with clearly happy animals; the play area is fab and though a shame the lake was being refurbished the activities on the lawn with archery and axe throwing. Great day out thank you

While we were there, because somethings were still closed, there was only a snack van. We took a picnic, there are picnic benches in several areas so you could eat anywhere with the dog.

I would like to take my mum who is wheel chair bound. Do you think this is suitable and are there any 'indoor' bits?
เขียนเมื่อ 24 พฤศจิกายน 2019
Not many indoor activities.
Wheelchair is ok for a certain part of the park, if your mum doesn’t mind just a slight glance, can spend 2 hrs there.

Bonjour,

Loads of room for car parking.

I have cycled in Margam Park before, I was just wondering if anyone knows whether there are any rules against skateboarding there, specifically electric skateboards, they go no faster then a bike so I don't see why there would be an issue but just wondering if anyone knows

Van only be in margan grounds at certain times of the day or can spend longer there than it says on the opening times
เขียนเมื่อ 11 ตุลาคม 2018
I'm not sure. I imagine they would lock the gates at the closing time so I don't know how they would monitor people in the grounds as the park is a vast size.

Can you get into margam Park by walking (aka not in a car)
เขียนเมื่อ 17 มีนาคม 2018
Yes you can, you can walk along the road into Margam Parc, just be aware of the traffic :) then you don’t pay as you only pay if you park a car in their car park :)
