Great little par 72 course, Pay as you play, but in very nice condition. Would absolutely recommend this course for all levels of golfer.

Shocking customer service

Absolutely disgusted by the customer service. Needed to move my booking back a week due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to the their 72 hour cancellation policy I not only lost the £108 I had paid for the round but would have had to pay the same again to rebook. Shady way to claw back revenue lost during the pandemic!

Lovely Sunday dinner

Went to Pine Ridge Golf Club for a fantastic Sunday Roast Dinner. My family of 10 enjoyed a delicious platter of Chicken, Roast potatoes, Stuffing, plus veg with a lovely gravy on the side. Everyone including the children tucked in to the chicken which was very moist and tender. We also had puddings of apple crumble or brownies or fruit all with Icecream all too delicious. We gave the food top marks as it arrived very hot which must be hard to do with so many people for a sitting. We can't wait to go back, staff were lovely too thank you x Forgot to say very reasonable too for what food we received three big eaters and they were full!!

Very Disappointing!!

I thought about not writing a report on Pine Ridge Golf Club, but then decided that things need to be said so that other golf societies are fully aware of what to expect when they deal with Crown Golf and in particular the staff at Pine Ridge.

I had back in May booked 3 consecutive days of golf for my society to be played at Pine Ridge. I had a meeting with the club manager and we discussed all 3 days and how I was wanting them to run.

The first day was a simple 18 holes of golf followed by ham, egg and chips for the players to be served AFTER the golf!! The following day was a 27 hole competition followed by a 2 course meal, and finally and 18 hole event on the third day followed by a 3 course meal.

We decided that I was going to be able to pay for each day individually and ON THE DAY as I was not sure how many players would attend each event. This would mean that accurate payments were made and no need for refunds.

I then paid a £500 deposit to secure the golfing days.

Fast forward to a week before the event and I was receiving emails from the management team demanding that I paid for all the golfing events 7 days in advance or they would release my tee times for each day!! I again tried to explain to them that we had an agreement about paying for each event on the day so as to negate the issues of refunds or underpayments. Again they demanded the money up front so I had to use my own personal funds to finance the events. This was so wrong and to be threatened by them to pay the money or else, was totally unjust and not a way to deal with customers.

I knew from this moment on that we were not going to have a smooth running of the events over the coming days.

This was apparent on the first day when I rocked up to set up at 1130 and was asked what time we wanted the food as it was ready!! This was not what was ordered. The food was booked over the phone on the 19th of August and I specifically told them that it was to be served AFTER we played golf. I then had a stand up conversation with the food and beverage manager who more or less told me that we either ate the food at midday or we would not get anything else. Again the wrong decision and dialect from the team at Pine Ridge. He eventually sorted something out as we didnt eat before we played golf and all our meals were there when we got back.

As it was we had extra people turn up to play golf and have a meal. I had paid for 9 but then needed to try and figure out what else had been ordered.

A complete shambles on day one.

Day 2 didnt get much better. I was approached on the first tee for the afternoon round by one of the management team to pay the differences for the golf and meals that had built up with people arriving and being added onto the list. Considering I had been there all morning, to try and get me to sort everything out just as I am about to tee off was again another bad decision by the management team. I told her that I would pay for the extra people when I was ready and that I would come and find them. She told me that she wanted me to pay after I had played the first 9 holes. I told her that was not an option and set off on my round. Note that the girl in question finished at 1400 for the day and was nowhere to be seen to receive payment once I had finished the golf!

Note that having been there nearly 2 days that was the first time anyone from the management team had came to see me to ask if everything was okay and was there anything that could be done to make things go better. By that stage I had made up my opinions of the running of this club and how much of a complete and utter shambles and disgrace it was.

We had our meal after the golf and left. Again no interest for the team at this course.

Our final day again got off to a disaster. Members had ordered and paid for buggies. One of the girls who was in charge of events came and said that they had managed to get 2 more extra buggies for our group. When one of the members went to collect his buggy that he had ordered the previous day he was told that they didnt have one for him!! Again a complete shambles. They did eventually sort it out but again another example of how not to run a golf club. They didnt have a clue.

We managed to play our final round and have the dinner at the clubhouse - which I have to say is completely soulless and nothing like how a golf clubhouse should be. The fact that it at times resembled a kids crèche just about summed up the running of this place.

When I went to enquire about the extra payments that I had to pay I asked to see the management team. I asked for their office - they dont have one and all operations are run by 2 girls out of a booth within the bar area. In fact I could not pay for the extra golf in the clubhouse and had to walk down to the starters hut to use their card machine as they didnt have one for golf payments in the clubhouse. On walking down to the starters hut I asked the event manager did she play golf . . . .and she replied . . “No I have no interest in golf!” This was their attitude and it completely astounded me that the people in charge of running this club had no interest or care in what was going on around them! This was not exactly an episode of the ‘Apprentice’ but I felt that the 2 girls in charge felt it was and they were trying to rule the roost with their complete lack of care, understanding and general common sense.

When we spoke back in May, I was promised 2 x 4 ball vouchers as a good will gesture that I could use to generate some funds in the raffle for the charity we support. When I asked for them I was told that because we didnt meet the required numbers of players then they were not going to give me the vouchers. This was again wrong as not once did we discuss a minimum spend to secure the vouchers. Admittedly we did not reach the numbers projected but I still expected to receive the 4 ball vouchers or at least one of them!!

I had a a player who is a member of the PGA Coaching School and when he enquired about playing a courtesy round he was told that they no longer allowed members of the PGA to play for free on their course. This had never happened before. Shambles.

As the organiser I was allowed to play for free but again I felt that this was against their wishes and was only made so as to try and calm a situation that was about to boil over.

Pine Ridge used to be one of the premier pay and play courses in the country. It is now being run on a shoestring and the course is in severe need of care and attention and a management team that understand what a golf club is for!! Crown Golf need to take a look and see where they need to improve as this place is a complete shambles. No wonder the previous manager did a runner to Worlpesdon!! He knew a sinking ship and was quick to get off!! Crown Golf courses are being closed down at a rapid rate and I can see why.

I will never be back to give them my custom and I strongly advise you all to think twice about dealing with this place ever again. Search around . . . . There are better run clubs that you will get for the same price if not less that will make sure your golf days go without hitch and that they have staff and management who actually care about what they are doing and who they are providing for.

Avoid at all costs.

Painfully Slow

Arrived at the Pine Ridge and check in was straight forward with our tee time just before 1pm on a Sunday. Although the driving range was ‘full’ even though there were clearly bays free.

The course was in good condition and was very well laid out.

The main issue was the speed of play, our round took over 5 hours, we reported this to a course Marshall who dismissed our concern as he’d heard no other complaints. We also raised that there was a group of six holding up the course a couple of groups in front of ours. Again there was very little empathy from the member of staff with a throw away comment of, “oh they didn’t did they!?”.

If it wasn’t for the blatant disregard and lack of concern for the speed of play & enjoyment of those using the course by the staff it would have been a very pleasant day. Sadly though due to the experience we will not be returning to Pine Ridge again.

Do not buy the food. All of it is microwaved and rubbish quality sold at 99% profit margin. The onion rings were £5 for microwaved mush.

Poor cancellation policy

My friends and I have been playing at Pine Ridge for twenty odd years, off and on but I'm been put off going back by their onerous cancellation policy.

Having to give three days notice if one or more people can't make it (and also taking your money even if it throws it down with rain all day) means we will have to look elsewhere for our golf from now on.

At £36 per round that's a steep price to pay if your plans change. I can understand them having to cover themselves against very late cancellations but 72 hours is really too much, given that they are very likely to cover any late cancellations given how busy they are.

Sorry Pine Ridge, we'll look elsewhere from now on until this changes.

In my opinion the best public course around

In my opinion one of the best public courses around. Have been playing for nearly 50 years and still find this course both challenging and beautiful. Hadn’t played here for 17 years and took my grandson for his first 18 holes. Was wonderful. Had told him when he was good enough I’ll take him to Pineridge. He was good enough. Wonderful back 9.
