A great little walk that starts near the Lamington tea house. Not difficult, but muddy at the start. Lots of interesting rainforest vegetation on the way, and plenty of wildlife - even when we visited in winter we saw a lot of different birds, and pademelons and wallabies, not to mention a few ticks, which were a bit less welcome. The lookout itself gives a superb view - captured nicely in the photo here. There are a few other trails starting nearby, most of which are quite a bit harder than this one.

We did this short walk in the morning. Thoroughly enjoyed wandering through the rain forest. A big surprise to suddenly appear on the cliff top with great views all round. The early morning walk allowed us to spot 6 pademelons at fairly close range. The secret to these sightings is to be quiet and observant. If not, you can walk right past these lovely creatures without even knowing they're there.

+ Beautiful medium track + 80 steps to climb if started at the lodge + We started at the lodge and family finished at the information centre + I volunteered to walk the 1km back up the road, collect the car and met them back at the info centre.+ You can do it in the reverse but 70% of the last leg will be gradually going up hill + the cave was amazing and you can see the sut from fires still on the ceiling. + Biggest population of harmless Australian bees at the top of the cave as well.

A group of 40's plus reasonably fit Thursday Meetup mid week walkers, we walk all the Lamington pathways and count ourselves so blessed. It's stunning everywhere here: so many walking choices. All lengths, grades and levels.
We were so excited yesterday to discover these two walking treasures recently reopened at Binna Burra in the Lamington National Park, about an hour from Nerang on the Gold Coast: The Caves Circuit 5km and Gwongoorool Pool, 6km return. Major road work repair is continuing and there may be delays sp factor that into your timing.
For visitors with only half a day to Binna Burra, I couldn't recommend these relatively short walks more highly. The entrances are within 20 metres of each other at the Lower Binna Burra Car park about 2km down from second and third( main) car parks at Binna Burra.
The Caves Circuit Walk is 5km and is signposted just near Ranger's Information Hut and eco toilet, located on right as you drive up. It has few steps with soft padded pathways beside dramatic, soaring cliffs. Ethereal, majestic, awe inspiring: every superlative I can think of applies here. Giant Tallowwood and Red Cedars, Stringy Bark and Sydney Blue Gum are just some of the huge tress you will pass. Some of the mighty giants topple years ago and these become the haunt for fabulous fungi in the wet..... one very good reason to walk in the rain as we did. Almost everyone can manage this walk if you take your time. Small children need to be cautioned and supervised as there are some narrow edges.
The easier and arguably the most spectacular, is the Caves Circuit of 5km return. We started at the signposted track near the visitors centre on the Lower Car Park, about 1.5 kms below the main Binna Burra Lodge and walking area. Toilets available but no coffee shop here.
The most wondrous sight is the approach through a rocky arch to the ancient Kweebani cave, sacred to the indigenous people. Note the ashen texture and pattern of rock here that dates back to the volcanic days of Mt Warning when it was active.Tea tree and wattle abound. This is a 1 1/2 hour walk with elevation changes of 160m. There is a self guided brochure available at the ranger's information centre. This path takes you up to the next car park and and a walk back to lower car park ( about 10 minutes) with a spectacular view of Egg Rock on your right. If you don't want the short road option, why not return as you came and you'll gain a whole new perspective.
The Gwongoorool Pool walk track entry is located about twenty metres down the road with entry marked. This one is for the fitter walkers and those who can manage some steep steps, but oh the rewards, especially after heavy recent rain, the Coomera River was pumping wildly for us. For our entire journey it rained softly. At times the canopy protected us but truly, I recommend this walk in those conditions because the fungi were spectacular!! At times the pathway was covered with tiny beautiful purple orchids ( mid October) In dry weather the pool itself would be a lovely place to have lunch. Beware of slippery rocks near the pool. Get ready because you have 200 steps to ascend, some high and steep. Self guiding booklet available.
If you have no time for any other walks in the Lamington, choose one or both of these for their contrasting beauty. Take small container of pouring salt for application on leeches in wet weather. Start very early if walking in Summer. Walking poles helpful for both tracks. Sorry, I don't have photo of the Coomera River. It was pouring with rain!
Collect a delicious (!!!!) coffee from Flying Bean Cafe about 20 minutes down the road at Beechmont near where the hang gliders take off. Fabulous coffee, cake and pies!!! If not on your way, then on your return. They close at 3pm. Accommodation available right next door to coffee shop Beechmont Bean Cabin 1 and 2: $90 per night. Look modern basic and comfy! Rural views one side and sweeping Lamington ridges across the road. What a fabulous place to locate and discover the Lamington. Google details. So many walks out of Binna Burra. You could spend a week here. Dining at Binna Burra Lodge or staying up there is also an option. Camp tents with floor and lights, basic furniture, a cheap family option: ask Binna Burra Lodge. If interested check my other lengthy reviews of walks here including the Border Track and the Great Walk. Come!

The drive up through Beechmont is picturesque through to Binna Burra's lovely Teahouse where you have a small car park & washrooms. The trails are easy enough and rewarding. Much easier to access than O'Reillys on the next plateau

This walk is about 2kms in total and is a nice and easy walk down to the lookout. Plenty of people took their kids on this walk, so if you were thinking of getting the kids involved this is the walk to do it because there aren’t huge hills or anything too extreme. The view at the lookout is stunning, so take the time to sit and enjoy the views whilst you are there. Make sure you take some water and wear a hat and sunscreen as it can get quite hot!

About a Km walk down and you reach a beautiful point to watch sunrise as well as scenic view of lake, mountains and landscapes
On your way you can spot kangaroo and Koala bear in the forest
An hour track to return and a great one.

A wonderful way to feel alive and invigorated. So much beautiful scenery and look outs. Birds, animals and plant life galore. We are working our way through the walks in south east Queensland.
Not too tough and a lovely walk in the bush.
