We had a wonderfuk experience at this marina, and found owner Randall to be very customer focused and friendly. They have very nice pontoons — we rented a 22” Bennington with quiet and new Yamaha engine. The body of water is spectacular. I highly recommend this Marina — we will be back.

Had a wonderful experience renting a pontoon from Randall at Santeetlah Marina. He couldn't have been nicer and it was very easy! I called back in Feb and did what the voice mail said. Send an email with your request. They responded quickly and all went as planned. The pontoon was spotless and the marina is cute and well stocked with nice lake tee shirts, hats etc. Really a cute store! Randall is the owner of this business and his love of his boats and marina is obvious. Thanks Santeetlah Marina!!

I can’t believe this guy is in business. Randall did everything to be unfriendly and rude. After leaving I read the reviews on this place and they are spot on. Save the aggravation and avoid at all cost. There are much better options.

I wanted to surprise my family while on vacation in Robbinsville NC with a boat ride on the lake. There were two places to rent from. I decided to rent from Santeetlah Marina. After reading the reviews I was a little skeptical. I am so glad we rented from them. The manager Randell was very helpful and very professional. There were 8 of us in our group and we had a blast. We were in a brand new boat!! All the other boats in the marina looked very good and in great condition. The last thing you want to do is rent something that’s going to breakdown. The gift shop has everything you need for your trip and has a great selection of shirts and hats. This is a prime example of not believing every negative review that you read. I will rent from Randall next time I need a boat while visiting the area. I will also refer my friends to rent from here as well. If you want an AMAZING memory give Randall a call

After viewing all the pristine and beautiful lakes in the Nantahala Forest and surrounding areas, we decided we wanted to take to the water ourselves.
We showed up at Santeetlah Marina on a Wednesday, and rented a pontoon for a four-hour experience the following Friday, which was the first available opening.
This marina is a particularly nice one, right down to the colorful potted plants decorating the exterior. Inside, the building looks like a teensy-tiny version of a Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops.
The boat we rented was gorgeous: a brand-new Bennington, spotless and sleek. It did all the work while we cruised around the forested shoreline on quiet, still waters, awestruck by the majestic blue mountains ringing us and the pair of bald Eagles watching us from a tree in one of the sloughs. We were sad that we did not have binoculars to get a better look.
Great experience, overall. So relaxing!
Suggestion for the marina: Could you maybe partner with a local restaurant to provide picnic lunches as an add-on for your midday boat rentals? I think simple boxed meals with sandwiches, chips and fruit would be an excellent and very popular offering!

Randall was a pompous jerk. Rude! Acted as if we were bothering him by trying to rent a boat. He is also a liar. He said he had the only boat rentals on Lake Santeetlah. Untrue. We found another place, Deyton Camp, and they were amazing and super friendly --- everything Randall was definitely not.

We rented a boat for the week from the Santeetlah marina and we have mixed feelings about our experience. In summary, they have nice boats, but be careful what you sign up for and make sure you get a detailed receipt!
Initially, we had reserved a boat months in advance from the only other marina on the lake. The day we arrived, they called us to tell us the boat we had reserved was broken down and wouldn't be fixed for several days. Because of this, we wound up at the Santeetlah marina, where we rented a nice boat, but wound up paying twice as much as we had planned. What is happening is that because of the much lower price, people are reserving boats from the other marina and then getting screwed out of a boat at the last minute because apparently the other marina's boats are unreliable. Then, because there is no place else to go, folks wind up at the Santeetlah marina, between a rock and a hard place because they are vacationing on a lake and now have no boat. The owner/manager of the Santeetlah marina (Randall) obviously knows this and takes advantage of his position of having no real competition and plenty of vacationers desperate for boats and so he can charge a premium.
The good part is, the Santeetlah marina is a beautiful facility and has nice, new boats and we were very thankful we were able to rent one last minute. The bad part is that it will cost you a pretty penny. This is because in addition to his high prices, Randall has a lot of “hidden” fees that he doesn’t disclose to you up front, but that you see on your credit card bill at the end. For example, he charges a significant “credit card surcharge” which you are not made aware of, but it was tacked onto every charge we had there. (It added ~$80 to our boat rental charge!) Also, he charges for skis, tubes and knee-boards, which we thought were included in the high boat rental price until we later saw the charge on our card. When we asked for a tube and a knee-board he just said, “ok” and put them on the boat, but he said nothing about them costing extra. The other boat rental place includes skis, a knee-board and a tube in all deck-boat rentals so we wrongly assumed the Santeetlah marina did the same. We didn’t find out until checking our Visa bill later that Randall had actually charged us for them. Our fault for not asking and not getting an itemized receipt for the boat rental, but also he was not up front about the charges either.
Something else that happened, is he had several bumpers tied to the boat when we rented it. We didn’t touch them but just left them alone as we figured he had them tied on where and how he wanted them so we let them be. Well, at some point one of them fell off somewhere on the lake. We were honest and called him to tell him about the missing bumper as soon as we noticed it and he seemed unconcerned. When we returned the boat, we purchased some souvenirs from him and had to buy the gas to fill the boat back to full. When he rang us up he said nothing about the bumper, so we figured he was taking responsibility for it. But later when I checked my Visa bill I could see that the day after we left he charged us for a bumper. Again, it's in his rights to do so, but we felt the loss of the bumper wasn't our fault (since we weren't the ones who tied it on) and it just seemed a bit slimy that he never said anything to us and instead charged our card for it the day after we had left the lake. Also, he told us he was refunding the $100 cleaning fee, but I have yet to see that come through on my card.
The bottom line is that I think the Santeetlah marina is a good place to rent a boat if you go in prepared to get the price for everything quoted in full and you make yourself aware of all the charges up-front and get itemized receipts so you know exactly what you are paying for. We rented a Pontoon boat from Randall from Santeetlah Marina twice during our visit to Robbinsville. My husband actually contacted the other marina in the area, and their staff was super rude and unprofessional. They recommend he rent elsewhere when he asked if their boats were in good operating order. We found Santeetlah Marina to be a very nice, well kept marina with very well maintained and newer boats. Randall was polite and professional. It’s pricier than the other marina, but you always get what you pay for. We had a good experience and really enjoyed the boat and our 2 days on the lake.

Worse customer service ever. In July 2017, boat allegedly had a broken throttle 2 days before we rented it. We had no other rental options. July, 2018, we rented a deck boat and Randal, owner, held my $100 deposit even though it was returned to him in mint condition. In December 2018, we rented a boat for July, 2019 (7 months in advanced). Randal even convinced us to rent a brand new boat he had in inventory. It was confirmed several times afterwards including June 22, 3 weeks before our arrival. 1 week prior to our arrival, Randal claims boat was sold without warning and he said he had no other boats to rent. He was very cold and non apologetic to the alarming predicament he put us in. We may never return to Santeetlah lake only because of a very bad operated marina.
