Tolle Burg!

Eine richtig schöne Burg mit begehbarem Turm. Scheint ganzjährig geöffnet zu sein, allerdings gibt es keine Führung oder ähnliches. Das jährlich stattfindende Burgfest ist ein echtes Highlight mit Schaukämpfen und vielen Ständen und großem Angebot.

Wow what a view

It is quite the climb if you go by bike. However it was worth it. The view over the forrests is inmense and breathtaking. The caste ruins itself are worth the visit too. Truly a hidden gem..

I used to live in the village below the Castle and it is definitely one of many you should visit. I lived across the street from one of the masons that was employed for years stabilizing and partially restoring the castle. He told me that there was a tunnel running many miles from it to Burg Trifels and he only knew of it because he was one of the men assigned to seal the tunnel up. This castle as well as Dahn and Madenburg and a few others where picket Castles to protect Trifels.

This is one of plenty of castle ruins in Rhineland Palatinate. Not very big but in very good condition and offering amazing views to the surroundings. During my visit it was quite busy with a lot of kids especially enjoying running up down in the tower which I really admired as there is a part of the stairway which is very dark and I could only make it slowly following railing. A flashlight would be appreciated.
There is a parking just under the castle and from there it can be about 250 meters walking uphill. Entrance is free and it is accessible any time. As the castle is really not big and its visit won't take too long I recommend also visit Vorderer Winschertkopf, the hill opposite with lookout platform, just 1 km far. You can follow signs from parking.

Durch Zufall hier angekommen! Vom Parkplatz in 10 Minuten zur Burg und diese besondere Feste bestaunt! Eine ungewöhliche Form ( 7 eckig) mit schöner Aussicht ins Umland!

Ein must have seen Ausflugsziel im Pfälzerwald!

Wir waren im Pfälzerwald wandern und besichtigten die sehr schöne Burg Gräfenstein (Merzalber Schloss) erbaut vor 1237 in Merzalben, Gemeinde Rodalben, einst Sitz des Grafen von Leiningen. Die sehr gut erhaltene Burg mit herlicher Aussicht über den Pfläzerwald, liegt außerhalb von Merzalben. Vom kostenlosen Wanderparkplatz aus, kommt man über einen ca 800m langen Treppenweg bis zur Burg auf 447 m über NHN hoch. Sehr gerne empfehlen wir die Burg Gräfenstein als ein must have seen Ausflugsziel in der Region weiter.
