Very exciting to wait and get damp feet as the tide slowly reveals the causeway. Splashing across onto the mound alongside the other forerunners. Two cute cafes and gift shops to fortify you for the long unstable trek to the castle where the views are stunning and the history is interesting. Unfortunately the gardens were closed but you can see all of what you are missing from the castle at the right parapets. Lovely day trip.

Wow! Spent a really enjoyable afternoon here! We booked on one and there was nearby parking. Good so many photos! Staff were all friendly and helpful. Lovely cafe offering a good choice of lunches and lovely views. Would definitely recommend and will be back for another visit. Top class!

If, like us, you have always wanted to visit Cornwall and St Michael's Mount, then I can tell you it is well worth going. We arrived in time to reach the Island at 11:00 and were extremely lucky to find the tide was out and we could walk to St Michael's Mount along the Causeway. This is covered when the tide comes in. Along the way there is a short branch from the main causeway that leads to Chapel Rock. This little rock feature makes for an interesting climb and gives excellent views of the main island. When we reached the island we found a couple of shops selling souvenirs and also a café and a more specialised Afternoon Tea Room. Both offer excellent refreshment at reasonable prices. There are also excellent toilet facilities. We spoke to several members of staff during our visit and the first was a lady from the National Trust in one of the buildings on the lower area of the island. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the island and told us a lot of interesting facts and also told us where we could see the tracks of the underground narrow gauge tramway that is used to pull luggage and heavy equipment up to the castle. From there we moved to the start of 'The Pilgrims Steps' that you climb to get to the Castle. Be warned, the guidebooks are correct. The way is paved with stones, is very steep, the ground is uneven and although there are some handrails, they are not on both sides of the path, and not continuous all the way up. The ground can also be quite slippery, especially after it has rained. The castle is amazing. A one-way system is in place which helps control visitors and makes it a safe and pleasurable experience to walk round inside. There are several guides on hand to answer questions and we found two of them to be incredible. A young lady in the main hall was able to tell us all about the long table, the feasting and the dancing that used to take place as well as explaining what a very small door we saw in the corner was used for, Fascinating stuff. The rest of the castle was well laid out and full of curios. From the outside areas there are great views in all directions and plenty of photo opportunities. We noticed that children seemed especially keen on the cannons of the gun batteries. From one viewpoint we noticed a small white building back on the mainland that looked like a small castle. We asked one of the guides if he knew what it was but he said he did not. However, he said he would check to see if he could find out and would let us know. He was as good as his word and shortly afterwards, he found us again as we continued our tour and gave us a big update on the structure. It was built by a local landowner many years ago and is a 'Folly', and is now in the garden of a private house. The guide, Darren, was also able to tell us a lot more about the underground tramway, and pointed out a now-disused wheel that was part of the winding mechanism before more modern systems were put in place. Darren went way above and beyond with his help and we are especially indebted to him. He made a big impression on us. After our tour we descended VERY carefully down the steep path, passing the 'Giant's Heart' and 'Giant's Well' on the way. It was then time for a snack so we had a Traditional Cornish Pasty each in the Island Café. They were large, hot, extremely tasty and thoroughly recommended. By this time the tide had come in and we could not walk back along the causeway, so caught one of the little boats back to the beach at Marazion. Our boat, 'Louisa' was a sturdy little craft and very ably captained. All in all we had a great time and would like to thank The National Trust and all the staff who worked so hard to make our visit enjoyable.

I've waited a long time to come here and I was not disappointed, great experience, we walked over and got the boat back, everyone was friendly and helpful and we had a fabulous time. I would highlight that the right footwear needs to be worn I was surprised to see one lady wearing wooden style flipflops with a baby strapped to her facing forward and I can't stress enough how dangerous this is especially going back down as in places there are no handrails, it does stress this online so again read the information before going. If you manage to go on a day when the sun is out you will have a spectacular view, it is simply stunning. Well worth a visit and it won't be my last. As you walk up look for the stone heart.... it's on the pathway on the right as you walk up.

This is a must-see landmark in Cornwall - but there are some practical aspects you'll want to get right.
Access is tidal - check the tides as part of your planning. At certain times (and sometimes this is most/all of the day) access is ONLY by boat. (Which is a small extra payment.) The boats depart from different locations depending on the tide. All of these are walking distance from each other, but you'll want to be aware of this. At busy times, the queue for the boat can also be quite a wait.
Access is STEEP. It's quite the climb to the castle, with limited handrails etc. (It's fascinating to think of visiting dignitaries still having to make this climb!)
The gardens are ALSO STEEP but well worth seeing.
Basically, expect to do a lot of climbing.
If you're physically able, however, it's a unique experience exploring the grounds and the castle.
The way the access works means it can get VERY busy (or even sold out) at peak times. See one of my photos for an example of this queue. However we arrived at opening time and as a result were able to access and enjoy the castle without queuing even on a sunny summer's day. Later in the day we'd have had to do a lot of waiting and a lot of being stuck in crowds.
Compared to other National Trust locations, the staff/guides were noticeably younger. Perhaps an effect of the physical demands of moving around the site!
The café is fairly standard NT fayre, but did include some gluten free options and the staff helpfully went to find more GF sandwiches when we asked.
Don't forget to explore the harbour and ground-level buildings as well as the gardens and castle.

We have wanted to vist this castle as we are national trust members the car park isn't free to anyone and you have to pay getting across we had to use the boat as the tide was in the weather was very windy so the crossing was ok but a bit bumpy the walk up to the castle is cobled so if you have mobility issues it's not the place and the steps are steep I've read reviews about the walk up and wasn't looking forward to it but to be fair it wasn't as bad you just have to be careful i sew some wearing flipflops for goodness sake or crocs !! they castle it's self is lovely and the view is stunning but it was a very windy day coming down you just need to take your time there are handrails but not everywhere the village is very pretty with the normal cafes and NT shops which are very expensive which is a shame as it puts you off getting anything but if you get the chance pay a the only thing that i feel needs to be addressed is they should not allow people to start walking across the coursewsy when the tide is not fully out as there were quite a lot of people just standing right in the middle so you have to get very wet feet trying to get past it's not acceptable and i feel dangerous i hope they will do something about it but apart from that it's a beautiful place

There should be highlighted warnings of the very rocky pathway with no handrails for over half of the pathway to get to the Castle.
Very dangerous for those with even ‘mild disability’ ie arthritic knees /hips. You need to be strong for the stability needed to clamber up the rocks with no handrails. Terrified me, I had to look down at the ground the whole way up and down.
This warning is missing on the bookings page and is only shown on the receipt once you’ve paid. The Causeway itself is not easy to walk as it’s very uneven with big gaps and height differences between cobbles.
And if it’s still free to walk the Causeway why are staff in blue jackets shouting and calling out to walkers who don’t stop at their beach end table? Very disappointed at the management of St Michael’s Mount visits.
Admired the view for years and I should have left it at that !!

Be careful when using the long stay car park. When keying into the machine your vehicle reg it does not display on the screen. I paid £55 for a full weeks parking, but the first 3 digits of my vehicle did not appear on my ticket. I am now being bombarded and threatened by Initial parking who are sending me daily parking charge notices of £100. I will continue to appeal this. Its such a shame as this is a wonderful part of the world being somewhat ruined by commercialism and the maximisation of profits at the expense of unsuspecting holiday makers.

This is hotel is perfect for a relaxing break. It has the best Spa ever with two amazing steam rooms plus a sauna.
The food at breakfast and dinner was really tasty. The hardest thing I had to do was choose what to have for dinner, there was such a wonderful choice.
I can’t wait to go back.

This iconic island has alot to offer and it is great that as a National Trust property it is open to the public. As a photographer you need to go on a lovely sunny day ( any time of year) to see it in it's full glory. Check tide times as walking across the causeway is a lovely way to get to the island and this is only possible for a few hours around lowtide. It is a obviously a tourist hotspot so extremely busy in the holiday season. If you don't want crowds then come out of season. We did join the crowds in August so there was a 30 min wait to see the castle, but to be fair the National Trust had entry to the Island, and leaving by boat down as a military operation. The coastal garden was stunning, lots of steep steps, a maze of paths terraces and hidden corners. There were too many people when we were there, so come early or late. The staff at the house(, a steep difficult path up to it ) were still friendly and chatty despite the crowds. We still learned a lot of the history of the place. Definitely an experience.

Thank you for your review and for visiting the Mount. July and August are popular months to visit and it is quieter on the island outside of the peak periods. We're happy to see you enjoyed exploring the Gardens and all the secret nooks and pathways. We hope to welcome you back again. The Mount Team.
